You roll to see me; I’m still there, not a dream then. It’s autumn, and the lazy sun seeps a morning glow through the window, dancing colours against my pale skin. You take me in, sheets gathered around me, exposing the curves of my hip, waist, breast. My chest rises and falls, a steady beat. My hair spread across the pillow, yet more orange, matched by the leaves shedding outside, an amber warmth you want to cling to like a single match flame on a cold night. You want to gather it in your hands, feel its softness, smell the mix of human and a touch of floral shampoo, lose yourself in it. You are overcome by thoughts of the night before; hot passion, matched breath, hours of being one with each other and separate from the world. Exposed and held. Lost and found. More human and animal than ever before. Lost in spirit and grounded in primal urge. You resist the desire to touch me. There is something magic about watching someone sleep. Ever so peaceful. A smile plays on your lips as your heart glows contented peace. If you could stay in this moment forever, you would, but you can’t, and at the same time, that is exactly what is magic about it.
