Knowing nothing about the country we were flying to was really fun, but as soon as we arrived at the Vietnam airport we realized it wasn't the best idea.
Upon arrival, it turned out that we needed to pay for a visa and you could only pay in local currency or dollars, we had neither. You could only get local cash from ATMs on the street but you can't go outside until you got a visa. In the end, Miguel somehow convinced the security to let him go to the ATM outside, but not knowing the exchange rate, we withdrew everything he had from card and we ended up millionaires. Having received a 1-month visa, we went outside, but we didn't even download a map of Ho Chi Minh City in advance and naturally we didn't have a hotel or any plans in mind. So we jumped on the first bus we came across, which luckily took us straight to the center. The driver asked us for 40,000 dong for the ride and we still couldn't figure out how much it was, 1 dollar or 100. But then it turned out that 2.5 million Vietnamese dong is only 100 dollars here. So we were still poor millionaires.
We got off at the random bus stop, as soon as we started to notice the high-rises, it looked like the city center. There was a local cafe nearby where we ate a very tasty chop with rice only for a 1 dollar and next one man with a huge board on which he hung a hundred glasses, which he sold along the street, sat down at our table and he recommended us the cheapest hotel for 10 dollars, where we spent the night together with the cockroaches.
Next day we decided to buy a motorcycle and go on a trip around Vietnam on a bike and luckily right next to our hotel there was a huge motorcycle market, where for 350 dollars we bought an old semi-automatic Honda and the next day we hit the road. At that moment we were without Hannah, so the motorcycle was great for both of us.
