My usual routine of curling up in bed until the sun comes up and it’s warm enough to slide out of bed and into my thermals, seems to have come to an end. This year, when I wake up at 8am, I read for an hour (currently a book called ‘finding the mother tree’ which is making me want to run round a forest naked, talking to all the plants). I then jump into a freezing cold bath to wake me the fuck up and, ironically, warm my bones. I finish by eating a good breakfast and head over to my studio to get started on my work for about 10.I’ve found that giving myself a couple of hours each morning to do the things that properly set me up for the day incredibly therapeutic. I’ve learned a lot about myself on these chilly winter mornings. I’ve enjoyed spending time away from my phone. We’re fooled into thinking those things keep us connected. We couldn’t be more wrong. They disconnect us from the one thing we should be more connected to than anything… ourselves. If we can find ourselves, only then can we truly be connected.
