SECRET OF A STRANGER [Short story] I want to tell you about..
🕑 Added 2021-06-30 09:07:28 +0000 UTC SECRET OF A STRANGER [Short story] I want to tell you about a story, something that happened to me the other day, while i was in a shop. Entering inside the shop i started to have a look around and approached the information desk to check some products nearby it. I couldn’t help but notice this man not far from me, he was tall, he must had been around 6’5’’ i guess, well built and rather thick, it was easy to see under his shirt that he was a gym playgoer. I could tell he wasn’t that y o u n g, probably around middle forty, also due to his grizzled hair and a beard visibly taken cared of, yet of few days. He was wearing a blue shirt and short white pants, that allowed to view his big muscled hairy legs. And impossible not to notice were his feet, adorned by a common pair of flip flops that were visibly quite worn out and suffering his clearly heavy weight. His feet were big! Guessing i’d say they must had been a size 13 or 14, wide, manly and you could tell by watching the thick and darkened skin of the edge of his heels, that his sole was a bit rough, thick, a pair of soles that endured years of walking and substaining his important weight. Some may prefer younger, but it was undeniable he was a sexy man, with a strong and self confident pace and a charming smile. I found myself watching him for a moment, how he moved, the way he was walking... I did noticed how his flip flops were slightly squeaking at each step he took, compressing so much under his weight to be squeezed to less then half then them usually were when he wasn’t stending on them. Since he was checking something right beside where i was checking some products as well, i kept glance at him and i noticed something else that sparkled my curiosity. Each time he was walking, i heard a very faint buzzing sound, you know, just like when there is a mosquito nerby but you really can't tell exactly where. While when he was standing still, there was silence. It didn’t took me long to notice that this seemed to happen only when he rise his left foot off the floor. Now i was really curious about this and i focused my attention on his left foot, he stood still for a moment and then went to ask some informations to the nerby info desk. It was then that i noticed something odd… When he took the first step and his left foot firmly and heavily landed back down on the floor, i spotted a very small squirt of red liquid coming out from under his heel. Just like if he popped a tiny bloody zit. I grimaced a bit in disgust, unsure of what it was, but i could tell it wasn’t a pimple, both cause it was pure red and also cause if it was one, it’d pop once and that’s it. Instead it kept happening at each step. As he took some distance and my point of view allowe me to see better under his sole while he kept walking, i finally discovered what was the mistery behind all this and i admit i was astonished. There, under his wide and thick heel, was a minuscule creature and it seemed taped to it! At first i couldn’t fully tell what it was, cause his heel came down once again, destroying it and making it pop. I could tell by now it wasn’t a zit where the red liquid came off, it was this tiny creature exploding under his weight! What shocked me even more, however, was to see that once he rised his heel and foot to take another step, the visibly crushed body of the creature that now was just a smear on his heel, seemed to quickly get back into its shape and be back alive. This really gave me thoughts… I mean, who would tape a bug to its heel just to crush it over and over at each step? And why? Even assuming he enjoy crushing it, under such a thick skin like his heel, for sure he wouldn't feel a thing! And most of all how can it be possible it doesn’t die but restore? This man, apparently so normal, genteel, self confident and even sexy, was apparently hiding a secret! It was a real mistery and i needed to know more, but the surprise and shock wasn’t over yet. What i seen and realized to his next step was what truly made my jaw drop. While i kept staring at his heel and the minuscule creature trapped underneath, surious about how could it be it kept restoring, i finally was able to distinguish it better. I noticed a tiny human head, two arms and two legs held still by the tape and a visibly human torso. It wasn’t a bug! Was a tiny guy! He was apparently around his twenties and just now i realised that those buzzing noises i’ve heard each time this man rised his left foot, were nothing but his desperate screams. This man, whoever he was, was keeping that tiny guy captive, literally walking on him and massacring him at each single step! Apparently with no concern at all. This was so cruel! He then reached the info desk and just stood still, with his feet firmly planted on the flip flops and floor and obviously crushing the tiny guy the whole time. It was unbelievable to see him so gently spreaking with the shop assistant, smiling and even joking with him, while down below he was torturing and destroying that tiny creature without a care in the world. I decided to investigate a bit further and i approached the desk too. He was waiting to receive something and pay for it and he took out his wallet. Inside, i could spot a picture of him, a woman and what seemed to be his son. I could tell it was his family and the pic was obviously rather recent cause he looked almost the same and his son was in his twenties. Seeing that and since he was waiting with the wallet open, i decided to take the chance and speak to him “Nice family, man!” pointing to his wallet with a movement of his chin. He was surprised to see me speak to him and about my comment “Uh?” and needed a moment to link my comment to the pic into his wallet that i pointed, but as he did, he smiled to me “Oh, this… yeah, thanks! Sadly it WAS my family… My wife passed away after a car accident.” I felt kind of sorry and embarassed due to it after my comment even if i couldn’t know, of course “Damn, i’m sorry to hear that. I had no idea… Well, you still have your son, right?” hoping to fix my unlucky comment. Plus, i had to admit that from the few i had seen, the guy in the pic, truly resembled the tiny guy i had seen under his heel. As i ask him about his son, i could tell he straightened up a bit, like he didn’t really appreciated the question and i noticed he moved his full weight on his left foot, right when the poor tiny captive was. I could hear the flip flop squeak again as it compress and who knows, maybe that sound didn’ t came only from the footwear. However, he kept a weak smile and polite attitude as he said “Sadly not, he’s gone too...” “Oh damn, i’m really sorry! Car accidents can really ruin people existences...” i try to add, guessing the son was gone in the same accident, but didn’t dared to ask openly. The man, however, seemed to notice my curiosity about the reason and went ahead “Oh, no, i didn’t lost him in that accident, but later… One day he simply disappeared. I reported the thing to the autorithy, but he was never be found...” Once again i said i was sorry about it and i did noticed that while he said that, he adjusted his weight on his left foot even more, i could tell he was even grinding his heel down a bit. I glanced down at his foot as he did that and he noticed my gaze that visibly made him decide it was time to leave, even if the smirk on his lips showed that he knew i couldn’t spot the tiny guy down there, if he hadn't rised his heel. So he shrugged and took a deep breath “Well… at least, i’m back being a free, single man. It surely has it's advantages and much less responsabilities then a family and surely a son, would give... It's sad but we need to try to see the good sides also in the bad things…” and as he said that, the shop assistant came back with his purcase, he paid and before leaving, he give me a nod “Have a nice day man!” cutting off the conversation. “You too!” i said to him while he was leaving and i took a moment to keep stare at him, feeling sorry and concerned about the tiny guy he was torturing. A part of me wanted to do something but i knew those weren’t my business and who knew what this man was capable to… I did noticed that as he was walking away, he kept the toes of the left foot tense, so that the flip flop insole would remain against his foot, completely hiding the tiny guy to my view...![SECRET OF A STRANGER
