The Drydock - Episode 346
🕑 Added 2025-04-19 08:00:12 +0000 UTC00:00:00 - Intro
00:00:42 - Would earlier ironclads had led to iron ships with turrets and casemate main guns?
00:05:57 - Glorious ship names on tiny ships?
00:07:46 - What's with the turret layout on the planned G3 class battlecruisers and N3 class battleships?
00:14:25 - Why did some pre-dreadnoughts develop with two funnels alongside each other?
00:16:10 - What would an Italian-style money-is-no-object rebuild of older American or British battleships (such as the Wyomings, New Yorks, or [in a world where 1st London extends the building holiday but doesn't mandate additional scrappage] Floridas or Iron Dukes) look like and what would be the capabilities of these rebuilds?
00:23:45 - Will you do a biography for Makarov one day, perhaps?
00:25:33 - Were there any other proposals for the captured Nagato and Prinz Eugen? And if there wren't, what would have been some cool alternative uses for these two ships? Could they have been sold to another nation perhaps?
00:29:44 - With hindsight it is easy to joke about how bad the Russian fleet was, but it it's own time how did other European navy or army leaders rate it's chances against the Japanese?
00:33:43 - Does Drach have anything against the Portuguese navy throughout history?
00:35:40 - Is there any explanation why HMS Iron Duke's shooting at Jutland has been judged so accurate, and better than others including sisterships in her division?
00:38:36 - What was the thinking behind French and Italian dreadnought design?
00:44:41 - Japanese vs German inter-service rivalry?
00:52:59 - Can battleship guns be used like a howitzer, increase the tube angle and reduce the propellant charge to get plunging fire to hit targets in defilade?
00:59:03 - If Ten-Go had succeeded, and Yamato had successfully beached herself, how would the eventual magazine detonation have differed from a magazine detonation at sea?
01:01:21 - I have seen different stories of HMS Manxman outrunning a US task group even after the US commander ordered "Devil take the hind most". What parts of the story are true and where did that phrase come from?
01:05:39 - In fiction, particularly movies, I see a great deal of concern about 'down the throat' and 'up the kilt' torpedo shots but in reality I don't see much in the way of protection against them. Is this because the odds of making such a shot are so low, because there isn't room to put TDS in those locations, or a combination of both?

Completely off topic, but is this where I post questions? I tried going on his pinned FAQ post, but couldn’t access it. Sorry, kinda new to this.

And while the IJA had its own ships, the Luftwaffe had its own army (see the German defense of Sicily.)
