Yes, Oaxaca is a pretty safe state so no worries taking a cab at night. I would suggest to have a hotel booked in advanced at least for the first couple nights because it can be sold out. I don't know how many people will be at the winter festival but I'm under the impression that it will be a lot.

Great information. Looking at going to Zipolite for winter end of January and first part of February. I looked at some flights that get into Huatulco around 8:00 pm or so. Is it safe/dangerous to travel by taxi at night or should I plan for a day time taxi trip? Also, for the winter festival, is it important to get hotel reservations far in advance?
