Terrible news, yesterday our external hard drive where we store all our files, photos and videos suddenly stopped working. At first I didn't think much of it because I supposed recovering the information wasn't that big of a deal, after all people buy these things to protect their info, right? Well, turns out you have to send it to an extremely specialized lab and the potential costs are in the thousands of dollars and could take weeks. WTF? Why didn't anyone warn me when I bought these things? Right now we're still in denial and we're going to exhaust all options before resorting to the lab. But this might take a while. Fortunately our NNG Christmas video footage is still on the SD card so we'll be able to deliver on that soon but this is extremely sad. The idea of loosing years of hard work is truly mind-blowing. I'll keep you guys updated.

Thank you Adam, appreciate it. I'll keep it in mind.

If you need an IT consultant, I could try to fulfill that role until you hire someone professional.

I'm not familiar with that but I don't have a huge budget. Still searching for options but the holiday season is making it a bit more complicated. Will look into it, thanks for the tip.
I am not sure what your upper limit in terms of cost is but have you looked at MEGA?

So sorry to hear this. I experienced a similar issue years back, when I regularly created video game content for YouTube/Twitch/etc. It was a 4TB internal hard drive that housed the majority of video content and I was never able to get it restored. Since then, I've made sure to always have at least two copies of everything important to me, as inconvenient as that might be. For photos, I usually use a combination of a Cloud backup plus physical storage (say on an internal hard drive); for videos and other things I often will duplicate the physical storage (one copy on an internal hard drive, one copy on an external hard drive). It can really be a pain, and costly, as you mentioned. Hoping you are able to figure something out that works for you, and more importantly, hope you find success in recovering these items! Best wishes and happy holidays nonetheless.

Well, currently I have over 3TB of files. And it grows very quickly because of all the video equipment I currently use.
Ah. Roughly how much storage space might you need?
Hector Martinez
I have but it's very expensive for the amount of data I have to store.
So sorry. have you considered cloud storage going forward? I use both physical storage and cloud.
So sorry to hear; hope you all are able to recover all those great memories and shots

Oh no sooo sorry to hear! I hope it can be recovered and not be too expensive! Merry Christmas to you guys!
