Weekly Update - I can't believe I spent a whole week on this

Sorry for not posting any updates last Friday. I ran into some issues working on the baby skin tone and I can't believe it took me a whole week to figure it out 😥
this was literally my mental state last week.🔽
Some of you might remember me talking about this in an earlier post, but basically I needed to find a way to make sure the color of the baby during child birth matches the color of the baby once its in the bassinet. you might be wondering why this is even an issue but that's basically how modding is 90% of the time, working on issues you didnt think would even exist in the first place.
After a week of looking into all kinds of workarounds and thinking maybe the birth mod was a bad idea I finally found a way to make sure the baby has the correct color (see images below)
This however has a bug I cant solve, actually its more related to an existing EA bug.
the color of the baby during child birth is dependent on a block of EA code that deals with child birth at the hospital. Some of you might have noticed that sometimes when giving birth at the hospital using the surgery machine, the baby doesn't always appear in the bassinet next to the surgery machine even after you give birth. and since my child birth interaction in based on the EA birth interaction, when that happens my interaction will not be able to know what color the baby is supposed to be, and that will result in the animation to use a baby with a fallback color (medium skin tone) like this image below. This doesn't happen too often in my game, but i wanted to give you guys a heads up. I might adjust the fallback color to be more red and purple because that seems to be what new born baby look in in real life(according to the videos I saw online lol).
I wish i have the knowledge to solve this issue but this part of the code is written in python and my python knowledge is not proficient enough to solve it yet. for now I can only hope EA will come out with a fix soon. once in the bassinet however, the baby will return to its correct color.
something else I worked on is this phone interaction that allows sims to "call obstetrician" once they become pregnant, this is an interaction you must do to determine which child birth option you want to go with. if you dont call then your sim will just use the surgery machine once they arrive at the hospital. or they can still give birth at home with a bassinet.
once you select "Call Obstetrician" your sim will make a phone call and it will then show you this menu and give you different birthing options, right now there is only 2 options but I will be adding more in the future once I finish adding things like c-section and birth at home or water birth
and this is the Natural Delivery option which gives you a little more information on what it entails

that sums up all I have for now.
I will need to work on the early stage of labor next so that the sim will not go into active labor until they are fully dilated. I really hope it doesnt give me any weird bugs again as i am falling behind my schedule because I spent too much time solving the baby skin tone issue 😥I think I will either release just the Natural delivery part of the mod in mid February or postponed the release date until I finish c-section and release them together. I hope I will get lots of stuff done next week and come back with some new and exciting update! 🤞and PLZ, no more bugs! 😂

Could we maybe have a cut the umbilical cord animation as well? The partner can decide (based on relationship) if they want to cut the cord and these could come with moodlets and relationship points.

OMG, you have no idea how EXCITED I am for this to come out. like this is going to be a HARD wait, I also want to recommend possibly having ultrasounds and Pregnancy check ins with the OBGYN, I would be all for doing this if I could understand exactly how to create these things, So I am here 100%

Honestly in my opinion you are doing fantastic and I think postponing is better. I personally prefer it to be complete. That’s my two cents but honestly I think it’s up to what you are comfortable with. I’m so proud of you and thrilled you are able to do any of this. Thank you so much! Oh please go ahead and release. The skin color issue has been a pre-existing problem for so long in my game that I ususally age up after a day or so. Then adjust the toddler if needed. It’s frustrating but I figure it’ll just be that way until EA finally fixes. 🙄 you’re awesome and I can’t wait to have this mod!!!

This looks great and I’m glad you got the skin issue somewhat fixed. And, I hope you know that you shouldn’t feel bad for something that is 100% out of your control. It’s on ea to fix long standing bugs, not modders and thus, they should be the ones that should feel bad and not y’all. In anycase, mod looks great & I can’t wait to see it in action when fully released!
