I tried to embody the pillars of this community: the creators, the supporters, the pirates, and myself. I didn't change the membership names and images because I doubt anything else could beat them. Plus, they suit the stuff we consume very well. π€π
To make this announcement a little bit more worth reading, here are three facts about Japan Art:
- Netsuke: Netsuke are miniature sculptures that originated in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). These small, intricately carved objects were used as toggles to secure the cords of traditional Japanese garments, such as kimono. Netsuke often depicted animals, mythical creatures, and everyday objects. They served both functional and decorative purposes, reflecting the exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail in Japanese art.
- Yosegi-Zaiku: Yosegi-zaiku is a traditional Japanese craft that involves intricate woodwork and mosaic-like patterns. It originated in the Hakone region of Japan and is characterized by the use of different types and colors of wood to create geometric designs. Artisans carefully select and piece together wooden strips to form complex patterns, which are then polished to create a smooth and stunning finish. Yosegi-zaiku is commonly used in the creation of decorative boxes, trays, and other small wooden items.
- Kintsugi: Kintsugi, meaning "golden joinery" or "golden repair," is an ancient Japanese art form that involves repairing broken pottery or ceramics with lacquer mixed with gold, silver, or other precious metals. Instead of hiding the cracks, kintsugi embraces them and transforms the broken object into a unique piece of art. This technique not only restores the functionality of the item but also highlights its history and imperfections, symbolizing the beauty of embracing flaws and resilience.
