I think its time to just turn off subtitles for this show, all they are doing at this point is costing your enjoyment from the show, since they are so bad timed.

Just a hint for the subtitles: make bigger adjustments. The adjustment is in MILLISECONDS. If the subtitles are off enough for you to notice, I guarentee it's going to be >1 second (1000 milliseconds). Instead of going 100, 200, 300, etc., just go straight to 1000 and see if that makes it better, then straight to 2000, etc.

I remember this episode being pretty controversial in the fanbase due to the timing of when it came out. It’s a nice message but it didn’t land very well when irl conservatives were escalating in terrible behaviour.

Yeah, it clearly is meant for an audience that had more patience than is currently reasonable to expect, about a brand of conservative that is currently in vanishingly short supply. Steven Universe in general has a lot of good messages that are very hard to make work (which is what makes trying so noble, but sets a high bar that people often can't reach).

honestly when the subtittles get like this turn them off, they become more distracting then helpful. For me at least, I can't not read them.

man. this one. i think it's a cute episode on its own, but like a week before it aired, trump was elected and nobody was in the mood for a "you gotta accept your racist uncle" message. it wasn't the show's fault, but what unfortunate timing. it's not a bad ep, i always like to see lapis and peri at the barn and i'll listen to carl from aqua teen hunger force any day of the week.

Watching this again, I don't know how I never caught it before, but the uncle being voiced by CARL?! Carl of Aqua Teen Hunger Force?! How did I miss that before?!!!

“I’m thankful” that Andy was able to become more open-minded and chill by the end of this episode, and the gems should count themselves lucky. If they thought he was bad upon their first meeting, they would be shocked by how he was in the old days when he constantly butt heads with neighbours Shake, Frylock and Meatwad.
