Joy of Extradimensional Spaces (Patron)
🕑 Added 2021-05-19 22:06:28 +0000 UTCIn it's own demiplane, surrounded by a purple miasma that colors everything, one can find Fistandia's Magnificent Mansion. Danger and surprises await in every room.
Thank you very much for being a Patron! I hope you enjoy the maps.
A helpful tip, many large parties can have an issue with the space available in this map when run standard. You may wish to either double the size of the map (set the room to 64x46) or half a square size (35px). Halving the square size will keep the map in line with the premade dynamic lighting lines, but some people don't like how that can make status markers look.
Additionally, the opening of the story is reliant on the party to all walk through a mysterious portal. It is probably a bit easier for everyone to do the rare thing of taking away a bit of agency and just having everyone be sucked inside once they portal opens. Otherwise it is too easy for someone to not want to walk through the mysterious portal.
Also, I would recommend you either have Matreous be there trapped inside the mansion with them, or not have them there at all.
I lean towards not having them there myself so as not to risk him being a DMPC for the first adventure.
Instead, Matreous has been trying to build an escape room game. The homonculi there can explain that the only way out is to find all the clues to figure out the magic password to escape.
This does mean the loss of the fight against the imp at the end, but you can have the imp hiding in the mansion as a familiar who is contracted to ensure that players trip various traps (like the swarm of books). Basically, the imp is there to torment people.
By the time the finally escape, Matreous can be in his office working and be very surprised when suddenly these people pop out. He will agree to help them in exchange for them writing up reviews of his work in progress game.
It does make this a bit silly and lighthearted, but it's also a fun sort of magical beginning to a campaign. Plus, if you're in the forgotten realms, it is very in line with all the mad mages that love to build overly complex death traps for adventurers. Just Matreous is good, so he's building something that he hopes is fun instead of deadly.
I hope your players enjoy!
