Side projects and updates - August 2023
🕑 Added 2023-08-16 15:42:01 +0000 UTCBeen a little while since the last update post! Not as many things going on lately (just general overwhelm), but I've got a few fun items to share.
Starting off with projects! For one, the Bunny - irresistible indulgence scenario is still ongoing, but also just the mention that I'm still refining the most recent (p4) page of it; not 100% happy with how the x-ray portion looks, but I've got some positive tweaks already working, so I'll update that later. (And then of course on to the next page of it!)
Beyond that, there's multiple other projects that haven't been started yet; squishy showoff continuations to release as new prints, the aforementioned Bunny sequence page 5, and whatever else there's time for. Time being the biggest challenge at the moment, that and mental energy; I've been wanting to start up commissions again for the whole year and just haven't been able to find the right spot to do so, but things have been improving!

I'm also trying to keep mixing things up for myself too, not getting too caught in any ruts. Front and center above is one such experiment, a little sci-fi alien giantess thing! I'm not sure how big I'll go with it, but I'm liking the above "doodle" enough already that I kinda want to do a full scene with the concept, we'll see. These sorts of experiments are always a fun sidetrack, a taste of something new, and often a learning experience too; in this case it's already got a bunch of lighting techniques and some fancier material settings I've been messing with.
Below that, from left to right: the same alien girl from the scene (at least an earlier view of her), a random character experiment potential for another fantasy setting, and finally a new character I'll be sharing soon! Already enjoying a big ol' sandwich for herself, because why not.

I've mentioned a little while ago how current climates have been adding a ton of stress and unease, and unfortunately that's still ongoing. To an extent there's not too much I can do besides try not to let it bother me, but I can prepare a bit more for some things; I forget if I've already said that I'm most likely going to open up a SubscribeStar page as a mirror/backup to this one, a just-in-case option + an alternative for those who'd prefer to support through there.

In some positive personal news though, over the summer I've started biking a whole lot more than I have in the past! Finished up building a new bike for my last birthday, started exploring further and more often, even finding some regular group rides to participate in around my area. As a result I'm doing often anywhere from 30-50 miles a week, sometimes a fair bit more depending on weather and how worn-out I am from the previous week; it's not only been a very liberating thing, but a great help for my mental state, as well as physical.
On that note, I'm off for another bit of riding today, after spending the morning working on some of the above doodles and project updates! The downsides of being self-employed and working in digital mediums are that it's far too easy to have days where I'm just at the computer for 90% of the time, sore muscles just from sitting and not moving much. It's tough to convince myself sometimes that taking breaks is the productive choice, but having a hobby that doubles as exercise and is something I look forward to doing regularly has been really nice for that. ^^
