TravelingDreamer

Yeah, it sounds plausible.

Matthew

Something like this would benefit from magical contracts, if those will ever be a thing. There's stored spells in scrolls, so having a set of terms enforced by the party's own mana would be useful. If not that, at least the System could act as a neutral party. The group could come up with a general outline of things they would like to see happen in certain scenarios they would come across, then fill in the blanks for additional terms. In this case, the nobles would be ambushed in the dead of night and sign over to follow a certain standard of behavior without being able to communicate about the contract or group. They hit up everyone, then over time behavior and living conditions change since their minions are following by example. All without a major breakdown of their society. The best part of this would be that they could include about how they elect and train up successors, since the group would likely be off-world by then. If done right, it would be a sustainable cycle by the third generation since the successor would have grown up with the contract-enforced behavior to learn by example. The contracted party would pick the successor who grew up learning by example and would be most likely to keep it going. The person the successor picked to succeed them would likely follow this trend, etc.

In the other place, they were responsible for the prince's death, but the nobles still controlled the city. That didn't change. To remove the ruling class, they have to kill everyone. John would never agree, and neither would the others.

I mean like just take the power from those in charge like they did on the last city perhaps? Maybe in doing so, the slaves can free themselves and maybe have a chance to improve their situation

TravelingDreamer

The issue is that they can't stay to protect them forever. The minute they leave, the slaves will be enslaved again. If they take the slaves with them, what are they supposed to do with them? They can't take them across Gates. Drop them in the wilderness?

Patrick S.

Really fked up world

Damn, that was a brutal chapter! I feel like they should go back and free the slaves... Maybe it's not their job or whatever, but they have the power to do it so why not?? Don't even have to kill anyone, just yoink everything from the ruling class like they've done already!
