NoOC 1 year Anniversary! KDA

About one year ago, I started getting into VAM, making and porting stuffs. Some are good but some are bad, like objectively bad. If you were around in vam community a year ago, you might know this

That was Akali, the first character I tried to make and it's objectively bad. I knew blender and zbrush just a little bit but my skill is just not there. I could port finished characters from video games because the models are available, it is basically a finished product and you just need to do mostly procedural works to bring it into vam. If you asked me to make my own stuff a year ago, that pic is the one you'd get.
3D modelling is one of my passion. I'm working in mechanical design and analysis (solid modelling and CAE) where everything is either cube, cylinder or it's derivatives. It's relatively fun but organic modelling is way way more fun. I wanted to learn more so I started watching tutorials from youtube. However, watching online tutorials from youtube has it's limit. Some stuff are just locked behind paywall. I made NoOC patreon as way to fund my modelling passion by taking online classes from gumroad, artstation, flippednormal, buying assets like reference photos, finished models to be reverse engineered, and modelling related software, which, some of them (I'm talking to you autodesk) are crazy overpriced. I donated and saved the rest for future purchase. I'm happy to say that this is still going on till today. I haven't upgraded my pc using the money I earned from patreon. The only upgrade I did was upgrading my ram to 64gb so I can get them skin details on my sculpt in zbrush and off course I used my own money.
I wanted to do something a bit special for one year anniversary and the request channel from nooc discord asked for LoL character so I ended up rebooting my old character.
This model K/DA Akali is a model not ported from video games or any model from the internet. Everything is made from scratch, the outfit and accessories (dragon decal on the jacket is from the concept art so I didn't draw that). Models are sculpted in zbrush, some are modeled in blender, and textured in substance painter. It took about 2 weeks of my free time from start to finish(I also made the train environment in blender but ended up not finishing it because the UV work is too much). I made this using all the knowledge I learnt, made possible by your support for the past year. You can say that this is my yearly report of my promise. I know it is far from perfect and I'm still learning.
Anyway, sorry for taking your time but one last last thing I want to say is thank you. Thank you so much for the support. For the next one year, if covid-19 doesn't get me, I'm hoping to learn more about hard surface modelling, general 3D modelling, and digital painting hopefully to help me with my texturing work.

It was nice to learn of your journey, and I wish you luck to continue to develop it in the future. Thank you for your endeavors also. I have always loved 3D modelling; but it has always been beyond my budget (since it became a profession, away from the tools of hackers and demoscene devs). Now I can just about afford the hardware, but the time and the software is still difficult, but I've worked the processing side of image manipulation, so I understand the huge unseen graft in doing even the 'procedural' side before creating side. The work you put in...all of it, is the sum of experiences and skill that will pay dividends along your journey. Stay safe π

You've come a long way, congratulations! I usually never care about people's Patreons but this is an exception. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't care about LiS characters for example, so this (along with past ones like Zelda or Morrigan) is a breath of fresh air. I'm popping my Patreon-cherry for this!
