That makes sense, thank you for answering! : )

There WAS a period of time when China was importing a lot of Bollywood movies into China, and they were popular for a while. But, as my friend put its, it starts to feel the same after a while. And 3+ hours is also just too much for most people.

I've always been super curious about which global blockbusters are allowed to show/do well in china and which aren't/don't. Spectacle seems to be a huge part of it, looking at a wiki page for highest grossing films in china. But that makes me wonder why there's not more Bollywood on there. It feels like if you want sheer dazzle for your dollar, India is king. The 'mentally exhausted people need to turn their brain off' thing is a factor I never thought about, it's really interesting. And damn... looking at that wiki makes me realize I REALLY need to watch Ne Zha. Been on my radar for a long time but I didn't realize how much ass it kicked in terms of ticket sales. Also, I didn't realize how well Warcraft did over there. Wish it'd been enough for us to get a sequel, I think I'm one of a handful of americans who loved that flick lol.

As a worker, I love turn your brain off stuff. But as a film snob, it needs to be good turn your brain off stuff. I don't enjoy MCU movies anymore, but throw on John Wick 1 2 3 or 4 after work, Mission Impossible series (sans 3), or any number of kickass HK movies that are just the best stunts and fights and it instantly relaxes me after work. I often save arthouse movies for the weekend, but I can't bring myself to watch MCU, F&F, or the like. My film snobbiness won't let me go that far into mindless mode.
