It also occurred to me that there will always be some theft/leakage of digital media. Music and movies are pirated and shared all the time. I’m just not sure that the “audience” for pirated works is that large. I think you do what you can to stop/minimize it, but focus your attention on serving and growing your legitimate client base. Maybe add an “extra support” tier or two (I have seen this on other patreons) and see what the adoption rate is. Then you can decide if you raise your standard rate (or create separate tiers with progressive perks). The more your business grows, the less the theft/leakage should sting (hopefully). Just my two cents.

It’s the digital era. Etsy is the Napster of digital content these days, so I don’t use it for anything 3D (files or prints). Way too much theft. Are you going to private messages only for receiving all future content? That’s a lot to manage.

I'm not surprised and it is horrible but I support ABE3D, 3DMOON, E.S Monster and they have the same issue. I pay for the license to sell the 3Dprints of their creations. I price check myself to make sure I'm not overcharging or under and its every month the stls are on etsy before I can even post about the 3d prints.

That's messed up. Very sorry to hear it. I also came here recently through Groundeffected because I loved your Harley Geisha. Then when I saw your other sculpts and that you were working on Babydoll from Sucker Punch, I had to subscribe! I agree with the other poster that your membership fee is pretty low, but there is only so much content a single artist can put out per month, so I get that too. I have already noticed and appreciate the time, effort, and attention to detail you put into your work. Happy to contribute more if you open a "If you wish to give me extra support" Tier to help offset what the ripoff artists are doing to you. Try to focus on the positive energy from those who appreciate your artistry, honesty, and desire to deliver great content.

So sorry to hear this!! Unfortunately, this seems to be one of the recent plagues in the art community and has caused many good artists to quit Patreon or find alternate methods. I, along with many of this group, really appreciate your work and would like to continue to support you so I hope you continue. I know many are trying to find a way to combat or at least make pirating of these files more difficult. Hopefully someone finds a reasonable solution soon. I added these to my Gumroad when you released the files. Those still seem to work for downloading. However, if you'd prefer us to use another file, please let me know.

Sorry about the long post - but even then I almost forgot. Make sure to put marks on all images of your test prints, renders, and other promo materials. These thieves have no issues with using your own images to sell your work, but with your marks on these images at least they have to spend some time removing them or create their own before selling your work as their own - and then people buying can't claim they didn't know. Who knows, maybe if they see a model they like for sale on Etsy with your name on it they look you up and find your Patreon instead?

As far as I can tell Etsy is a big part of the issue here - as a well known market place, they should have better ways of verifying who owns the work they sell on their marketplace. The thing is I believe most model buyers actually want to buy the models legitimately (maybe sometimes people get tempted with cheaper prices as lots of models seems to be only a couple of bucks on Etsy - though in this case that's not even true) but the way the stores are presented on Etsy makes them look as if they own the works and the buyer don't know until they see a potential mark on the model. There will always be scum trying to make money off of other peoples hard work and unfortunately the STL format does not in any way make this difficult for these leeches. I have only just recently discovered your work (Through Groundeffected) and have only added 3 of your models to my Gumroad library (Yennefer, Poison Ivy, and Harley) but I can tell you that I seriously hope that you find it in you to continue what you're doing as I would very much planning to continue supporting your work. That said I have quite a backlog of prints to get done (too many subs, lol) and I just want to make sure these models will remain available in my Gumroad Library once added as I do not have storage space to download and keep all the models I buy?!

Is there a way to be put a digital id on the file for each of the download so you can trace back to the one who download it ( and distribute it illegally)? If I am running Gumroad (or any file sharing service), I would implement something like that for tracking purpose. This damages the industry so many ways. I wish/hope this can be addressed in some ways in the future.

Super sorry for you, as an artist in several disciplines I've seen this fuckery all over the place. When I started my 3D printing journey two months ago I bought a few models on CGTrader before figuring I can get way more subscribing to Pateron subscriptions, then seeing the same models on Etsy at half price flipped my lid cause I knew they were pirates. Etsy needs a much better vetting process to sell 3D models to protect valuable and talented artists like you.

I finally check in on my patreons, and find this sort of thing happening to you. From this subscriber, I can only say that I'm sorry this happened to you. It truly sucks - but know that your supporters love your work and will continue doing so, whether we print or not and in spite of the scumbags out there. Hang in there!

Maybe offer a tier for $10 to let Patreon voluntarily give you more for your amazing work? I will add up my contribution. Sadly there will always be pirates that try to either put your model on Telegram, or sell it on Etsy. There is a russian website that shares 1 account for hundreds of people. Don't know if Patreon finally closed them down, but they will simply create a new account and start again 😑 To cut a long story short, please continue making such amazing models 🙏

So sorry to hear that something like this still happens. I was so excited when you published the statue. The Quality of the Figures are amazing and clearly you put a lot of work, effort and love into your creations to build something you can be proud of. Do what ever is necessary to protect your art any way you can. And thank you that you share this art with us. I tried it with Yennefer and that did seem to do the trick. The prob is however someone leaked the access to the page posts and therefore the downloads are from people all out of the membership 🙄

I've always been under the view that what i create is appropriation art.. it's taking the original character, idea, etc and recontexualising it to create a new piece that pays homage to the original design. It happens a lot in the art world

First, I would like to say that I enjoy your work and appreciate what you are doing. I pay for my membership anytime I see a sculpture, and I want it. I am supporting your hard work and assume many of us will continue to do so. Also, I feel that making a buck off other people's hard work is wrong. But I am going to play devil's advocate here. I assume that you do not have the explicit rights to reproduce DC's intellectual property. Creating fan art and selling it without permission is also wrong. If I am incorrect and you have these explicit rights, my point is moot. However, I think being the bigger person and just appreciating the people who do support you should be your approach instead of trying to fight the internet trolls who take advantage of people. Its a losing battle.

The problem i also have is that someone has just put an open link to the members pages saved offline with all the screen shots of the pages with the direct links to the models. I could never track it as anyone in the world could have downloaded it then leaked that file 🙄
