It wasn't until noon that Roy was finally jolted awake by a phone ringing.
Still with his eyes closed, he reached for the phone on the nightstand, only to realize it wasn't his – it was Claire's.
He gave Claire's shapely rear a gentle pat. The good doctor was out cold, not even stirring at the sound of her phone.
"Claire, phone call!"
He patted her a few more times, and Claire finally fluttered her eyes open, then picked up her phone and answered.
"Hello?"
"Yes, this is Claire Sheffield. What can I do for you?"
"Hmm..."
"Sorry, I don't have time right now."
She hung up and snuggled back into Roy's solid chest, closing her eyes again.
Roy found Claire's reaction to the call a little strange, so he asked,
"Claire, was that a prank call?"
Claire shook her head.
"No, it was one of the passengers from the plane crash trying to reach me."
Roy was a bit curious.
"What did they want?"
Claire tilted her head back to look at Roy's face, a view that made the usually composed doctor look particularly adorable.
"It's still about the plane crash! Wait a minute, are you jealous?"
Claire suddenly giggled, and that little look wasn't so innocent anymore.
"Hmm? Are you questioning my charm?"
With that, Roy playfully squeezed Claire's airbags.
"Ouch! Be gentle!"
Then, Claire felt what it was like to be staring down the barrel of a gun. She immediately threw her hands up in mock surrender.
"Roy, I'm sorry! I'm really sore down there, can you go easy on me?"
"Humph! That's more like it!"
Roy knew Claire was genuinely feeling it and had no intention of a rematch. That little move was purely a polite acknowledgment.
He couldn't help it, though. Why did Claire have to wiggle around while leaning on his chest?
"Actually, it's the passengers from the plane crash wanting to team up and sue the airline. You saw what happened that day, right? The plane crashed because of engine failure, and some passengers suspect the airline didn't do a good enough job inspecting the plane. The person who called me is the one pushing for it, and he happens to be a lawyer."
"Ah, I get it," Roy said, understanding.
The details surrounding the plane crash that day were indeed a bit hazy, and the airline hadn't provided a clear answer even now.
It was no wonder some passengers were banding together to sue the airline.
"So, why don't you want to be a part of it?"
Claire buried her head in Roy's chest, taking a deep breath.
"Before, I was in a bad mood and didn't want to deal with it. Now, I'm in too good of a mood to get involved."
Roy grinned, feeling pleased.
Having a beautiful woman so infatuated with you was definitely a mood booster.
But soon enough, Claire's phone rang again. She picked it up and saw it was the same number.
Claire was a little annoyed that someone was interrupting her and Roy's lovely time together and didn't really want to answer.
Roy didn't mind.
"Go ahead, answer it. Maybe it's something important?"
So, Claire answered the phone.
After a brief exchange, Claire learned that the caller was asking if she knew where another passenger was.
That passenger had agreed to join the class-action lawsuit but couldn't be contacted now.
The person on the phone suspected the airline was silencing people, warning Claire to be careful and suggesting it would be safer for her to stay with them.
This made Roy chuckle. Who in the airline would order a hit job? Were they trying to get sent to prison to drop the soap?
These kinds of companies were usually publicly traded with widely dispersed ownership. Nobody would go to that kind of trouble to save someone else money!
Conspiracy theories at this level were just conspiracy for the sake of conspiracy.
"This guy's imagination is wild! Why be a lawyer? He should be in Hollywood!"
"Who knows?"
Claire continued to lean against Roy's chest, feeling incredibly safe and completely captivated by his scent.
But soon, Claire heard a loud rumbling sound coming from Roy's stomach.
Growl!
"Uh, it's already noon. Should we go out and grab some lunch?"
Roy looked a little embarrassed. He had a pretty low tolerance for hunger, probably because of his enhanced physique.
But Claire didn't mind, as her own stomach was also starting to complain.
"Sounds good!"
Claire started to get up but immediately felt a sharp pain.
After all, she was a rookie on the battlefield, and her first encounter was against someone as powerful as Roy, and she was going it solo.
This resulted in Claire suffering more damage than she had anticipated. Getting out of bed today was unlikely unless Roy carried her the whole time.
And that was even worse than staying in bed!
"Roy, what do we do?"
Roy shrugged.
"Who told you to be so competitive? You even tried to counter-kill me last night."
During the latter part of their encounter, Claire's inner wildness had been unleashed. She had even tried to be a "female rider."
Roy figured it was those dressage-like equestrian moves that had really done her in. He thought he'd been pretty gentle last night.
But it wasn't that surprising. Claire was a girl who enjoyed fighting matches, so she definitely had a wild beast living inside her. It was just a matter of who could awaken it and who could tame it.
Claire's face instantly turned bright red. She covered it with her hands and let out a shriek.
"Ahhh—stop talking about it! I was totally out of my mind last night!"
Just thinking about what she had done last night made Claire want to hide under the covers and squirm around, but her current physical state wouldn't allow for such vigorous movements.
"Alright, alright! I'll stop! I'll go get you something to eat, and then I'll fill up my own stomach."
Roy didn't want Claire to go hungry, so he went to a fast-food place near the hotel to bring back some food for her before taking care of his own rumbling stomach.
After all, it took Roy quite a while to feel full, so it was better to let Claire eat first.
As he came back down in the elevator, Roy suddenly received a call from Niddy.
"Roy, have you had lunch yet?"
"I was just about to go get some. Niddy, is everything okay?"
"No, nothing's wrong! I just… I miss you a little!"
Roy found this a bit strange because Niddy rarely contacted him by phone. They usually chatted remotely through MSN.
Unless it was something urgent, Niddy preferred using online tools.
That girl would say anything online, but in person, she was as timid as a quail. She was the original internet giant.
Listening carefully, Roy could hear some suppressed giggling on the other end of the line. It sounded familiar, like Heather and Penny were trying not to laugh.
Wait a minute, what day was it?
Then, Roy instantly realized: it was April 9th, Penny's birthday!
Could it be that Niddy and the others were planning a surprise for him?
It seemed likely!
Jennifer knew he was in New York and participating in the Olympic world qualifiers. If Jennifer knew, then Niddy knew too. They could easily call Lambert and ask which hotel he was staying at.
So, Roy immediately started to discreetly observe his surroundings. Sure enough, he spotted a few sneaky figures behind the hotel greenery in the distance.
"Niddy, you're not trying to surprise me, are you?"
Niddy on the other end of the line went silent. Then, Roy heard Jennifer's voice.
"Niddy, Roy definitely saw us! Heather, Penny, didn't I tell you guys to hold it in and not laugh!"
So, Jennifer was in on it too. He wondered if she was the mastermind behind this.
Probably not. Penny was the one with the most outrageous ideas among the four of them. She must have come up with the initial plan, and then Niddy helped refine it.
Niddy had plenty of mischievous ideas herself, but she rarely suggested them first. She usually added to other people's plans.
Then, Jennifer and Heather were responsible for execution. Those two girls were pretty good at getting things done.
Heather's voice came through the phone again.
"Sorry, I really couldn't help it. Niddy looked so funny pretending on the phone."
"I knew we should have had Penny make the call!"
"Wouldn't that have been too obvious?"
The four girls emerged from behind the greenery and all hugged Roy at once, each giving him a sweet kiss.
This scene made all the men in the hotel look at Roy with envious eyes.
"What are you guys doing in New York?"
Roy asked, feigning ignorance. Penny provided the answer.
"Jennifer said you might not have time to come back to Waterfall Town anytime soon, so we came here. Besides, a birthday party isn't complete without you!"
Hearing this, Roy was genuinely touched. However, Jennifer, with her sharp senses, seemed to catch a certain scent and her expression turned a little strange.
"I haven't had lunch yet. Let's talk about Penny's birthday party after we eat!"
It was McDonald's again. While McDonald's fast food wasn't very nutritious, Roy was starving and couldn't wait for a more elaborate meal. At least McDonald's served quickly.
While Roy ate lunch, the girls started discussing how to celebrate the birthday party that day.
Since the surprise was already out in the open, they naturally went with the birthday girl Penny's wishes. Penny suggested finding a karaoke bar and getting a private room to drink and sing.
Yep, Penny, with her background in nightlife, was also a seasoned drinker, probably having the highest alcohol tolerance among Roy's girlfriends, excluding non-humans like Elizabeth and Jennifer.
After completing the bloodline fusion ritual, Jennifer was practically a half-demon, and her physical abilities had skyrocketed.
Everyone else agreed, and they started making preparations.
Roy also needed to get ready, especially by explaining the situation to Claire.
He had a ready-made excuse. Roy called Claire and told her he needed to discuss tactics with his coach.
As for which coach, Roy didn't specify. After all, Coach Penny was also a coach.
As a psychology PhD, Claire picked up on something in Roy's voice over the phone, but she chose not to call him out on it.
Actually, Claire had learned a bit about Roy's womanizing from Emma, and given Roy's strength and the fact that he was an athlete, she figured his needs in that area were probably quite high.
So, Claire just asked Roy if he could come back later that night and bring her some food.
Roy naturally agreed without hesitation.
New York, as America's biggest city, had a very vibrant nightlife, and you could find all sorts of venues.
Penny found a pretty decent karaoke bar, booked a private room, and then ordered a ton of alcohol.
"Tonight, nobody's leaving standing!"
Penny was incredibly excited. It had been a long time since anyone had celebrated her birthday with her after she ran away from home.
Drinking at karaoke definitely involved playing some drinking games. The four girls were united in their plan to get Roy drunk first.
They used all sorts of tricks and cheats, anything to make Roy drink.
Roy was game for anything. There was no way these little girls could outdrink him.
After drinking for a while, everyone started to feel a little tipsy.
Especially Niddy, who had the lowest tolerance. The only other time she had drunk alcohol was on her own birthday when she had some alcoholic soft drinks.
Tonight, she drank beer at the karaoke bar and quickly got drunk and passed out on the sofa.
And Penny, once she got a buzz going, took over the microphone and started singing like crazy. Everyone knew her singing skills – they were the kind that would give Roy nightmares if she sang them as lullabies.
But since it was Penny's birthday, no one wanted to stop her and just had to endure it.
Niddy looked a bit pitiful, frowning in her sleep, clearly having a nightmare.
After singing for a while, Penny finally had enough.
"I'm going to use the restroom. I'll be back to keep singing when I get back!"
Penny left the private room and wobbled towards the restroom.
At the same time, a middle-aged man came out of another private room, also heading to the restroom.
The middle-aged man was also clearly a bit drunk and entered the restroom almost right after Penny.
Afterwards, the two of them came out of the restroom around the same time.
The middle-aged man splashed some water on his face, feeling a bit more awake, and then saw a very familiar blonde woman in a red dress in the mirror.
"Penelope, is that you!"
Hearing her full name called out, Penny was a little confused because she didn't remember knowing anyone who lived in New York. She looked at the middle-aged man next to her, and her drunkenness instantly vanished.
It turned out that this middle-aged man was the owner of the bar where Penny used to work.
When Roy first met Penny, she was stripping and skimming credit cards at a bar, which led to a disagreement with the bar owner over their cut.
When the bar owner tried to force himself on Penny, Roy played the hero and saved her, and Penny had fallen completely in love with Roy ever since.
Back then, Penny had kicked the bar owner in the groin, causing him physiological issues that required treatment in a big city like New York.
Today, the bar owner's treatment had finally worked, so he came to the karaoke bar to celebrate.
Unexpectedly, he ran into Penny at the same karaoke place.
"I can't believe I ran into you here! This is great!"
Looking at the bar owner's sinister grin, Penny turned and ran, knowing she'd be safe once she got back to the private room.
However, because she had drunk too much, Penny's balance was off, and she tripped and fell to the ground after only a few steps.
"Help! Help!"
The deafening sound in the karaoke bar drowned out Penny's cries for help. People passing by in the hallway didn't want to get involved and just watched as the bar owner dragged Penny back into his private room.
Back in Roy's private room, Heather was also pretty drunk, but Jennifer was only slightly tipsy.
"Roy, hasn't Penny been gone to the bathroom for a little too long?"
Penelope Brown (Kylie Cowan)
Chapter 217
"Why don't you go check the restroom?"
Roy definitely couldn't go into the women's restroom, or he'd definitely be seen as a pervert. But Jennifer would have no problem.
"Okay, I'll go take a look. It wouldn't be good if she passed out in the bathroom."
Jennifer nodded and left the private room, heading towards the restrooms.
A moment later, Jennifer rushed back to the room anxiously.
"Roy, something's wrong! Penny isn't in the restroom!"
"No way? Could she have gone into the wrong room?"
Roy didn't think too much of it. After all, it's normal to go into the wrong room when you're drunk.
Back in his previous life, Roy had once gone into the wrong private room after drinking too much and sang in there for half an hour before his friends found him.
So, Roy started knocking on the doors of each private room, looking for Penny. Soon, he arrived at the bar owner's room.
The door to this room opened a bit slowly, and the person who opened it was particularly grumpy.
"What's with all the knocking? Who are you?"
The bar owner glanced at Roy, and some unpleasant memories immediately flooded his mind. He immediately wanted to close the door, but Roy had already jammed his hand in the doorframe.
"I feel like I know you from somewhere!"
Being tipsy affected Roy's memory attribute a bit. After all, his impression of the bar owner wasn't as deep as the bar owner's impression of him.
The bar owner tried to slam the door shut, wanting to make Roy give up, but unfortunately, the pain only made Roy more sober.
"Fuck! I don't know you, get lost!"
That "fuck" finally awakened Roy's memory.
"You're that bar owner!"
Roy immediately understood that Penny must be in this guy's hands, so he put in a little force and pushed the door open.
"You, you better not come any closer!"
Jennifer followed closely behind Roy into the room and saw Penny tied up in the corner.
"Penny, are you okay?"
"I'm fine! This son of a bitch tried to rape me, but he couldn't even get it up!"
Penny spat on the ground, looking at the bar owner with disdain.
After Penny almost turned this guy into a eunuch, it seemed he had developed some kind of psychological trauma towards her.
Although his brain told the bar owner to retaliate against Penny, his body just couldn't do it.
"Damn bastard! Penny, how do you want to deal with him?"
Penny, who had been untied by Jennifer, walked up to the bar owner through gritted teeth. This guy seemed to realize something and desperately begged for mercy.
Unfortunately, Penny didn't want to let go of someone who had almost raped her.
"Go to hell, trash!"
She flew up and kicked the bar owner in the groin. The force was so strong that even Roy felt a phantom pain.
However, this guy's life could still be saved. Penny was still relatively kind.
"Roy, let's go!"
After watching the bar owner roll around on the ground for a while, with blood seeping from his hands, Penny's mood finally improved.
After this incident, everyone lost the desire to continue singing karaoke. After all, the police would be showing up soon if they stayed any longer.
Roy picked up Heather, while Jennifer carried Needy on her back. The five of them booked a room in a hotel near the karaoke bar.
They didn't choose the previous hotel, mainly because Roy wanted to avoid trouble.
Originally, he thought tonight was a perfect opportunity for a five-person game, but Needy and Heather were both dead drunk, so Roy had to settle for a three-person game first.
The first person in line was naturally Penny, the birthday girl of the day. Jennifer was also willing to give Penny some space.
In the bathtub, the two of them soaked in warm water together.
"Roy, it seems like every time I'm in danger, you appear like a hero to save me?"
"Really? How many times have I saved you?"
Penny started counting on her fingers.
"..."
According to Penny's calculation, it seemed like Roy had indeed saved her many times, but in reality, many of those incidents were things they had experienced together.
"So, how are you going to thank me?"
Penny stood up firmly, then slowly sat back down, letting Roy clearly feel her gratitude.
"Hmm! I'll follow you forever, Roy! No matter what, don't leave me, okay?"
Roy naturally wouldn't refuse such a humble request.
"As long as you don't actively leave me, I won't abandon you!"
"Are you guys done yet? Don't catch a cold in there!"
Jennifer outside couldn't take it anymore. It was impossible for Roy to catch a cold with his physique, so the main concern was Penny.
Roy thought about it, and Jennifer had a point. He himself was resistant, but he shouldn't let Penny catch a cold.
Caucasians had particularly poor resistance to colds, and it could easily turn into pneumonia.
"Coming out now!"
【Ding! Obtained Penelope Brown's Conquest Treasure Chest! Open it?】
So, Roy carried Penny, whose eyes were rolled back, out of the bathtub and used a towel to dry her body.
Jennifer stood with her hands on her hips, looking at Roy.
"Finally decided to come out?"
Roy scratched his head.
"Need a hand."
It took the two of them some effort to get Penny settled, and Jennifer ended up breaking a sweat.
"Whew, I need to take a shower first!"
"Wait for me, let's shower together!"
"Ah! What are you doing! Haven't you already showered?"
"I'm just a clean person!"
At this moment, Jennifer suddenly switched to Lilith.
"Well, because your bloodline fusion ritual was very successful, it allowed Jennifer's body to fuse into a perfect state. In other words, her body has now returned to its pure state."
Roy really hadn't expected the bloodline fusion ritual to have this kind of effect.
"You need Jennifer to maintain a pure body?"
"Yes, some magic can only be used with a pure body, so at least until my daughter is dealt with, it's best to keep Jennifer in her current state."
Roy hesitated for a moment.
Generally speaking, people who are drunk are always easily thirsty.
When the drunk Needy was sleeping groggily, she was woken up by some strange noises and then remembered she wanted a drink of water.
After opening her eyes, Needy found herself in an unfamiliar room.
Where is this? What are these strange noises?
Because the alcohol in her body hadn't completely broken down yet, Needy felt like she was walking on clouds as she went to the restroom.
Needy really wanted to leave, but she found that she couldn't control her body at all, and her legs even gave out, causing her to collapse onto the floor.
The noise behind her caught Roy's attention, and he turned around.
"Ah! Needy? Don't look!"
Roy gently laid Jennifer down and then helped Needy up.
"Needy, are you ready?"
Needy had originally planned to dedicate herself to Roy on his birthday, but sometimes plans just couldn't keep up with changes.
Just like now, Needy seemed to be unable to restrain herself, covering her face and nodding slightly.
"I, I've been ready for a long time! I, I look forward to this day every day!"
Actually, Roy also wanted to give Needy a more perfect first time, but with Claire's example before him, he felt it was necessary to change his approach.
"Then let's begin!"
"It doesn't seem like this in the movies?"
This made Roy laugh.
"You've even watched those kinds of movies?"
Needy was very shy.
"I was just a little curious, so I watched them!"
"Is that so? Then you can experience it firsthand today."
"Wait, wait a minute, I'm not mentally prepared yet!"
...
"Movies are movies, reality is reality!"
【Ding! Obtained Needy Lesnicki's Conquest Treasure Chest! Open it?】
Looking at his成果 with satisfaction, Roy originally wanted to see what he could get from the two treasure chests. Jennifer, who had the best physique, suddenly woke up and stretched.
"Roy, haven't you forgotten something?"
He really had! Roy had promised to go back and check on Claire and bring her dinner!
Looking at the time, it was already one o'clock in the morning.
Crap!
Roy quickly got up and put on his clothes.
"Jennifer, help me take care of the others, especially Needy!"
"Did you even need to say that?"
"Then I'll go first. Call me if anything happens!"
After saying that, Roy hurriedly left the room.
On the other side, Claire had been waiting for Roy in the hotel. Fortunately, she had eaten a lot of food at noon, and she hadn't exercised much in the afternoon, so her stomach wasn't too hungry.
However, lying in bed all the time was quite boring, so Claire turned on the TV, planning to watch some programs.
Suddenly, a news report caught Claire's attention.
A man in New York City died after being impaled through the mouth by a steel bar that fell from the sky while he was walking past a construction site.
Generally speaking, a few deaths in New York City are no big deal. After all, nearly a hundred people die unnaturally in this city every day on average, and that's just the ones that are counted.
Deaths of undocumented immigrants, homeless people, and the like are not counted at all.
And this man's way of death was quite unique, which is why it was on TV.
The reason Claire noticed this man was because this guy was the one who had called her during the day, one of the survivors of the plane crash.
This guy actually died?
Claire found it a bit unbelievable. Then she remembered what the man had said during the phone call earlier, suspecting that the airline wanted to kill people to silence them.
Could it really be a silencing? Otherwise, it would be too much of a coincidence, right?
Just as she was thinking this, Claire felt a sudden chill for no reason. Maybe it was because she had drunk too much water, but she suddenly needed to use the restroom.
When Claire stood up, she didn't notice that the glass on the table was suddenly covered in water droplets.
Despite a day of rest, Claire was still a bit uncomfortable, and she moved very slowly when walking.
After entering the restroom, Claire noticed that the mirror was inexplicably covered in steam, which made her feel a bit strange.
It was only April, and the climate in New York shouldn't be so humid.
"Could it be that the humidifier was turned on?"
The hotel's central air conditioning usually includes multiple functions. Sometimes the previous guest turned on the humidifier and didn't turn it off, and the new guest wouldn't notice.
Claire was about to check the air conditioning panel when she suddenly slipped.
Maybe the slip was too sudden, but Claire instinctively wanted to grab the sink.
This sink was a floating design, supported entirely by the side fixed to the wall.
However, perhaps due to disrepair, the place where the sink was fixed and supported had broken, and the entire sink actually fell off.
Claire fell to the ground unexpectedly and almost got hit by the sink.
Fortunately, Claire had been working out regularly for years and had good reflexes, but she accidentally pulled her wound while dodging, causing her considerable pain.
With the breaking of the sink, some of the water pipes also had problems, and these pipes started spraying water like crazy.
Claire really wanted to get up and leave the restroom, but she couldn't get up after several attempts.
Just at this moment, Claire suddenly noticed that a socket on the wall under the sink seemed to have come loose due to the spraying water, and the wires inside had popped out.
Claire instantly felt a chill run down her spine.
Needy Lesnicki (Amanda Seyfried)
Chapter 218: Final Destination
Was this it?
Claire was incredibly unwilling to die. She had just found her prince charming!
However, the more Claire panicked, the harder it was for her to get up. The bathroom floor felt like it was coated in butter.
At the same time, the exposed wire was about to fall into the water.
Just then, Claire suddenly heard a knock on the door.
It was Roy!
So, Claire immediately activated her summoning magic.
"Roy, help me!"
Hotel room key cards usually only come one to a room. Once the card is removed, the power in the room goes off, so Roy hadn't taken the key card with him.
Roy, outside the door, faintly heard Claire's cries for help. Without hesitation, he kicked the door open and rushed inside.
At that moment, the wire fell right into the water in the bathroom, and Claire instantly started convulsing.
"Claire!"
Roy grabbed Claire and pulled her out of the water.
This voltage probably wouldn't kill an average person instantly. Roy just felt a slight tingling in his body.
As for Claire, she just seemed a little out of it. Roy must have gotten to her in time.
"Roy, did I just see a halo above your head?"
"Never mind that right now! I'm taking you to the hospital immediately!"
Just then, some staff members rushed over. The security guard probably saw someone kick down the door on the security cameras.
"Sir, what happened?"
Roy was furious. He immediately started cursing.
"Damn it! How can the stuff in your hotel be so flimsy? I'm definitely going to sue you!"
With that, Roy picked up Claire and left the hotel, driving his Bumblebee to the hospital.
Public healthcare in America can be really slow, but private hospitals are super efficient.
Roy wasn't short on cash, so he had Claire checked into the emergency room at a private hospital right away.
Claire fell into a coma soon after Roy brought her to the hospital and didn't wake up until the afternoon of the next day.
"Roy, am I still alive?"
Claire groggily opened her eyes, first seeing the stark white ceiling, and then Roy beside her.
"Of course you're still alive. No one's going to take you away from me!"
This made Claire feel touched.
Roy held Claire's hand and started asking her about what happened last night.
"Claire, why did that kind of thing happen last night?"
Claire frowned and thought for a moment. She was still a little hazy from just waking up. Then her memory became clearer, and she recalled what happened before she passed out.
After listening to Claire's description, Roy frowned deeply. This was just too weird!
How could such a coincidence happen?
Then, Claire brought up another thing. The person who contacted her during the day yesterday had also died, and in a really strange way – impaled by a steel beam that fell from high up.
"I'm starting to wonder if the airline is really behind this?"
Claire's words made Roy chuckle. He touched Claire's forehead.
"How could a small airline have that much power? Don't overthink it, Claire. Let's get you something to eat. You haven't had anything since last night."
As if on cue, Claire's stomach rumbled loudly, making her a little embarrassed.
So Roy took out a bowl of oatmeal from a thermos and fed it to Claire spoonful by spoonful.
Even though the oatmeal was pretty bland, with hardly any flavor, Claire ate it happily and quickly finished the whole bowl.
"I'm full!"
Claire's face was a little flushed because she had accidentally eaten twice her usual portion, which made her, someone who paid close attention to her figure, a bit self-conscious.
"Rest up now that you've eaten."
Roy gently wiped Claire's mouth.
"Okay! Will I still see you when I open my eyes?"
"Of course. I'll be here with you all day today."
Hearing this promise, Claire finally closed her eyes, feeling relieved.
After what happened last night, Claire only felt safe when she was by Roy's side.
Seeing Claire's breathing become steady, Roy's expression turned serious.
Claire's series of descriptions just now reminded Roy of a horror movie he had seen in his past life – "Final Destination"!
This horror movie was very unique because the antagonist was an unseen and intangible rule of death. It never appeared once from the beginning to the end of the movie, yet it could create all sorts of accidents to frantically kill off the main characters.
If it really was the Grim Reaper from "Final Destination," then they were in trouble!
Roy suddenly remembered what happened to him on the day of the plane crash – being inexplicably attacked by a shark.
In the bay of a metropolis like New York, sharks shouldn't appear under normal circumstances, but a shark did appear that night. Looking at it this way, it seemed a bit strange too.
He still needed to confirm things!
Roy left the ward and went to the hospital hallway to make a call. He wanted to check if anything similar had happened to the other passengers on the crashed plane.
Because it didn't look like it was related to supernatural forces on the surface, Roy first called Elena from the FBI for help.
Elena gave him the contact information for the New York FBI, so Roy called that number to get in touch with them.
The call connected quickly, and a middle-aged man's voice answered.
Roy quickly explained his request.
"If it's just investigating the current situation of the crashed plane passengers, it's simple, but..."
Judging by this, this FBI agent wanted something in return.
But that wasn't surprising. If Roy didn't offer anything, this guy would probably use Elena's favor.
Since that was the case, it was better for Roy to just pay some money.
"Twenty thousand dollars. You help me sort this out, the sooner the better!"
Just investigating the situation of some ordinary people, and they were mostly all in New York now. This amount of money was more than enough.
"Deal! But I want cash. Once I have the money, I'll send the information to your email."
"Okay! What should I call you, sir?"
"You can call me Anonymous."
It would still take some time for Anonymous to get the results, so Roy returned to the ward to continue watching over Claire. He found that Claire had opened her eyes.
"Claire, why aren't you asleep?"
"I can't really sleep."
Claire's eyes were fixed on Roy.
"Claire, you didn't think I left, did you? I just went out to make a phone call. You don't have to be scared. I told you I'd be here with you today."
Hearing this, Claire smiled happily, but then she thought of something else.
"But you have your World Championship qualifier tonight!"
Reminded by Claire, Roy also remembered that he had a competition to play. Going back and forth from the hospital to the venue would take at least an hour, and that didn't even include the traffic.
Traffic in an international metropolis like New York is usually very bad. You could easily get stuck for two hours.
Should he leave for two hours? Roy hesitated.
Although according to the plot of the movie he had seen, after someone on Death's list was saved, it would just move on to the next person on the list, who knew if the Grim Reaper in this world would be any different?
Roy had encountered events where the movie plot had changed significantly before.
Seeing Roy's hesitation, Claire smiled.
"Roy, I'm fine now. You can go to your competition tonight without worry. Don't miss the Olympics that happen once every four years!"
Claire naturally knew how important the Olympics were to an athlete, so she decisively forgot the promise Roy had just made to stay with her.
Even though Claire was so understanding, Roy was still worried.
Actually, there was another way. As long as he could get someone to protect Claire in his place, this problem could be solved.
If Jennifer hadn't left New York yet, she could just fill that role.
The question was, should he let Claire and Jennifer meet?
Claire saw Roy's face full of hesitation and felt a little strange.
"Roy, are you worried about me? I won't be angry. It's just a little disappointing that I can't watch your performance live."
Roy let out a breath and finally decided to be honest.
"Claire, I'm worried that you might be in danger when I'm not here."
"Isn't this a private hospital? What danger could there still be?"
"Anyway, I don't want to lose you because of a competition, so I want to find someone to take care of you in my place."
As a psychologist, Claire naturally had high emotional intelligence. She immediately understood Roy's hidden meaning.
"The person you found to take care of me... is it a woman?"
Roy nodded.
"Is it the woman you went out to see yesterday?"
"Yes."
But she was only one of them.
Claire really understood everything. It's just that smart women know how to play dumb, while foolish women like to pretend to be smart.
"Is there anything special about her?"
Since he had already made a decision, Roy didn't hide anything anymore.
"Jennifer is a powerful witch. She can ensure your safety."
Claire showed a thoughtful expression. She could see something in Roy's serious look.
"Okay then, Roy."
Seeing that Claire didn't look angry, Roy temporarily breathed a sigh of relief.
It was only temporary, after all, Claire was a doctor of psychology. Roy couldn't guess what she was thinking.
"Then I'll call her now."
Roy left the ward and took out his phone. Claire behind him had a somewhat dim look in her eyes.
"Hey, Jennifer, are you still in New York?"
"I just put Needy and the others on the plane. What's wrong?"
As soon as he heard that Needy, Heather, and Penny were also flying home, Roy felt a little uneasy.
Surely not every plane would run into the Grim Reaper, right?
"Did you know there was a plane crash in New York a few days ago?"
The plane Roy was on crashed, but no one died. It quickly made the national headlines, and even people in the countryside of Texas knew about it.
"You're talking about that? Don't worry. The airlines have been doing very strict checks recently. It's impossible for accidents to happen one after another."
Jennifer seemed quite relieved and didn't think as much as Roy did.
So, Roy explained Claire's situation to Jennifer, as well as some of his guesses.
Jennifer was very surprised after listening.
"There's actually such a thing? Where are you? I'll come over right now!"
With that, Jennifer hung up the phone.
Half an hour later, Jennifer arrived at the private hospital and found Roy standing outside Claire's ward.
"Roy, I just asked Lilith on the way here. She said she knows what situation you guys have encountered."
Sure enough, an elder in the family is a treasure!
Jennifer's words made Roy's eyes light up.
"Oh, then let Lilith come out and talk to me!"
Jennifer closed and opened her eyes, and her aura underwent a huge change.
"Little Roy, I didn't expect your luck to be so bad that you'd actually run into something like this."
Lilith's tone was full of teasing, which made Roy a bit annoyed.
"Cut the crap. Just tell me what exactly is going on."
"Don't rush. I need to check you and the other woman first. Let's go inside."
People were coming and going in the hospital hallway. If she released witchcraft, it would easily be seen by others, so Lilith directly entered the ward.
Then, Claire and Lilith met for the first time.
"Wow! She's definitely a beauty. No wonder you can't bear to part with her, Little Roy!"
Lilith's attitude was quite frivolous, which made Claire, who came from a respectable family, frown a bit. However, Lilith was also kind of complimenting herself, so she just frowned and didn't say anything.
But Roy didn't want Claire to develop a negative feeling towards Jennifer, so he slapped Lilith on the butt, and a crisp sound echoed throughout the ward.
"Tone it down!"
Lilith looked at Roy pitifully, seeming like she still wanted to play around for a bit, but when she saw Roy's gaze become sharp, she didn't dare to continue.
"Ahem! I need to check your and Claire's bodies."
"Don't you need to check me?"
Lilith shook her head.
"You're a Nephilim. Your physical fitness is so strong that it's not representative at all. We still need to look at the situation of ordinary people."
That did make sense.
"Then hurry up and start!"
Claire curiously watched Lilith and Roy's conversation. The conversation between the two just now made even her, a doctor, not quite understand.
Jennifer walked to Claire's side and directly started taking off her clothes, giving the beautiful doctor a fright.
"You, what are you doing!"
Lilith rolled her eyes.
"Of course it's to examine you! What are you afraid of? You've already done it with Roy, and I'm a woman too. What else is there to be embarrassed about?"
"How do you know about me and Roy..."
Claire blurted out a sentence, but she stopped talking at the crucial moment.
"Hehe, I can also see that you were still a pure virgin two days ago. It was only the day before yesterday that Roy..."
Claire widened her eyes and then looked at Roy with some anger, thinking that he had said it.
Roy spread his hands out and helplessly shrugged his shoulders.
"Claire, I didn't tell anyone about us. I told you Jennifer is a witch. She figured it out herself."
Roy always called Lilith Jennifer in front of others to avoid exposing Lilith's existence.
Actually, only Roy, Needy, and Elizabeth knew about Jennifer having one body and two souls.
Claire chose to believe Roy, so she stopped struggling.
"Go ahead!"
Lilith unbuttoned Claire's hospital gown. She saw the two perfectly shaped headlights inside, but her gaze wasn't on the headlights, but on the position between them, which is the heart.
"As expected."
