After speaking, Nancy lightly let out a breath of relief. She had been under a lot of pressure these past few days, and having someone listen to her made her feel much better.
"Roy, thank you. I feel so much better now! Maybe these nightmares I've been having are just because I was frightened."
Nancy seemed very optimistic, befitting the heroine who survives multiple movies. However, Roy wasn't as optimistic.
"Nancy, wait here for me for a moment."
Roy started asking the students attending the memorial service if anyone had been having strange dreams.
Thanks to his reputation at school, all the students honestly answered Roy's questions.
He didn't know until he asked, but it turned out that among the students who came, more than a dozen had the same nightmares as Nancy.
This showed that Freddy had indeed returned.
"Roy, what are you asking about?"
Jennifer and Neidy noticed Roy going around asking the students, and they couldn't help but feel curious.
Roy looked at the two girls. Jennifer should be relatively safe since Lilith was still inside her, but Neidy might not be.
So, Roy casually asked Neidy.
"How did you know I've been having a strange dream recently? I keep dreaming about an old wooden house, and in front of the house, there are three little girls singing a nursery rhyme while jumping rope."
Neidy repeated the nursery rhyme she heard in her dream:
"One, two, Freddy's coming for you,
Three, four, better lock your door,
Five, six, grab your crucifix,
Seven, eight, gonna stay up late,
Nine, ten, never sleep again."
This was the classic nursery rhyme from Nightmare on Elm Street, marking Freddy's return.
Jennifer, who was standing to the side, saw Roy's grim expression and felt very strange.
"Roy, what happened again?"
"You guys come with me!"
Roy led Jennifer and Neidy to Nancy and then explained his findings.
Nancy's face was filled with terror as she released a large amount of fear.
"That guy is really back?"
"I think so."
"No, how could this be!"
Nancy hugged her head, unable to accept this fact.
Back in Elm Street, Nancy had lost many friends, including her ex-boyfriend.
By the way, the actor who played Nancy's boyfriend was the future Captain Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp. Nightmare on Elm Street 1 was his debut work.
Relying on her blonde hair and virginity, Nancy was lucky enough to survive Freddy and even fought back against him.
Well, this was also a classic trope in early horror movies. Characters who could survive the villain were usually conservative, blonde, beautiful young women, and Nancy perfectly fit this description.
Roy comforted Nancy.
"Nancy, don't be afraid. The few of us have all experienced similar terrifying events, but we're all doing well!"
The kind Neidy also hugged Nancy.
"Yeah, not long ago, I was taken to the sewer by a clown monster and almost died, but Roy and Jennifer saved me!"
During the It incident, although Neidy was unconscious the whole time, she still had some impression of her surroundings.
Neidy actually knew the whole process of Roy and Jennifer saving her.
Nancy looked at Roy and the others in surprise.
"Is what you're saying true?"
"Of course! Nancy, if you believe us, we can find a place to have a good chat after the memorial service this morning!"
Roy hadn't figured out how to deal with Freddy yet. This guy was a relatively rare type in American Horror Story, a villain who couldn't be directly killed through physical means.
Moreover, Freddy always bullied the weak and feared the strong. Roy suspected that this guy wouldn't dare to enter his dreams at all, which was quite troublesome.
He had to think of a good countermeasure.
Nancy didn't refuse.
At this moment, the memorial service officially began. Roy and the others returned to their seats.
Because the auditorium had been blown up, the memorial service was held in the gymnasium.
The black and white portrait of the male student was hung high on the wall, and all the students solemnly mourned the deceased.
Because she hadn't slept well for the past few days, Nancy found the music being played at the scene particularly sleep-inducing, and her eyelids kept drooping.
Nancy tried hard to resist her sleepiness, as it would be too impolite to doze off at the memorial service, but the sleepiness still irresistibly crept into her body.
Suddenly nodding her head, Nancy suddenly felt something was wrong. She realized that everyone around her was still.
Moreover, the black and white portrait hanging on the wall had changed to another person, becoming a rotten and ugly face wearing a black wide-brimmed hat.
Nancy would never forget this face. She realized she had once again fallen into a nightmare.
"Nancy, you have to wake up, wake up quickly!"
Having experience fighting Freddy, Nancy knew she had to break free from the nightmare as soon as possible. She tried to pinch her body hard, using the pain to escape the dream.
But this method seemed to have failed. Nancy pinched her skin until it turned purple, but she still couldn't wake up.
Worse, Nancy heard that familiar nursery rhyme again.
"One, two, Freddy's coming for you…"
At the gymnasium exit not far away, three little girls suddenly appeared, jumping rope while singing the nursery rhyme.
Terrifying memories kept resurfacing in her mind, making Nancy more and more desperate.
At this moment, the black and white portrait of Freddy hanging on the wall suddenly spoke.
"Oh, little Nancy, do you remember me?"
Nancy didn't answer Freddy; she just kept backing away, trying to get away from Freddy's portrait.
"I've been thinking about you every day, little Nancy!"
Freddy's voice suddenly came from behind her, making Nancy's heart skip a beat.
Immediately afterward, a hand pressed down on Nancy's shoulder. This time, she couldn't help but close her eyes and scream.
Opening her eyes, Nancy realized she had woken up. The picture on the wall was still of the dead student.
The other students around her were looking at her with puzzled expressions, which made Nancy very embarrassed.
But the most embarrassed was Roy, because the hand on Nancy's shoulder was his.
Just now, Roy suddenly felt a large amount of fear coming from Nancy, who was standing in front of him.
Roy immediately guessed that Nancy must have fallen into a nightmare, so he reached out to try and pat Nancy awake.
As a result, Nancy let out a scream, making it seem as if Roy had done something to her.
Even Jennifer and Neidy looked at him strangely.
Nancy quickly apologized to the people around her.
As for Roy, it was simpler. He glared around, and all the students turned their heads away as if nothing had happened.
Finally enduring until the end of the memorial service, Nancy immediately left the gymnasium with Roy and the others and went to the lawn outside.
"I just saw Freddy in my dream!"
Unsurprisingly, if she hadn't dreamed of Freddy, Nancy wouldn't have screamed as if she had been violated.
Roy had already guessed, so he wasn't too surprised. Jennifer and Neidy, on the other hand, were quite shocked.
"That guy really appeared?"
Nancy nodded with an extremely painful expression.
At this time, it was already close to noon, but the warm sunshine couldn't dispel the chill in Nancy's body.
Roy didn't expect Freddy to arrive so quickly. He hadn't even thought of a solution yet.
The best way to deal with it now was to try and stay awake. Maybe they could hold out for a while longer.
The problem was, judging from Nancy's current mental state, she probably wouldn't even make it through tonight.
Neidy's mental state was slightly better, but ordinary people could only stay awake for a few days at most, and they would need someone to keep an eye on them the whole time.
"Roy, will that guy go after Neidy too?"
The latest and fastest novel updates are on [website address]!
Jennifer was a little worried about her best friend.
"It's for sure. As long as you've dreamed about that guy, he can find you, no matter where you hide."
"What can we do?"
Hearing this, Neidy also became nervous. This girl wasn't very brave to begin with, otherwise, Pennywise wouldn't have targeted her.
And Freddy was similar to Pennywise in some ways. He also relied on fear to gain power.
This was also shown in the movies.
Every time Freddy resurrected, he wouldn't rush to start killing. Instead, he would try to scare the teenagers in their dreams as much as possible.
On the one hand, it was to absorb the power of fear to strengthen himself, and on the other hand, it was to spread his influence.
This guy was a bit like a meme infection. As long as one person remembered Freddy, he could always resurrect from nightmares.
Roy carefully recalled the few Nightmare on Elm Street movies he had watched in his previous life. He could only do this now that his memory was so good.
There were several ways to kill Freddy, but most of them seemed to require entering the dream world.
So, was there any way to temporarily avoid being invaded by Freddy and delay him for a few days?
Roy suddenly remembered that the third Nightmare on Elm Street movie seemed to mention that taking certain drugs could prevent dreaming while sleeping.
As long as they didn't dream while sleeping, wouldn't Freddy be unable to enter?
However, Roy couldn't remember the specific drug. His memory hadn't reached the point where he could remember every detail clearly.
"I have an idea. Do you guys know of any psychiatric drugs that, when taken, can make people quickly enter deep sleep and avoid dreaming?"
Neidy and Nancy both shook their heads. This question was outside their knowledge, but Jennifer seemed to have thought of something.
"I think I've heard of it!"
Roy was even prepared to risk asking the school nurse, but he didn't expect Jennifer to actually know.
This was good. It saved him from having to ask the school nurse, who might think he was doing drugs and could even call his parents.
But how did Jennifer know about such specialized things?
Facing Roy's questioning gaze, Jennifer explained.
"My deceased foster parents both had a habit of smoking weed. When they ran out, they couldn't sleep, and that's when they would take some of the drugs you mentioned to help them fall asleep."
Wow, those two were really terrible. It was truly remarkable that Jennifer didn't turn out badly growing up in that kind of environment.
"Do you remember the name of the drug?"
Jennifer frowned and thought for a moment.
"It sounded like it started with 'Zo' something. I can't remember clearly, but I think there might still be a pill bottle at my house. We can go back and take a look."
The names of these chemical drugs were indeed very difficult to remember. It was normal not to remember them if you didn't take them regularly.
Roy looked at the time. It was almost lunchtime now.
"Let's go, we'll go directly to Jennifer's house to take a look."
The principal saw the three of them leaving the school and was very shocked.
"Another one in such a short time? No wonder he could handle Ms. Hall. Sigh!"
The principal looked at them with envy, then looked at his own stomach, which was as big as a woman's in her tenth month of pregnancy, and sighed deeply.
The yellow Chevrolet Camaro sped away with the three beautiful girls, and many of the boys who saw them gnashed their teeth in jealousy.
Oak High School already didn't have many beautiful girls, and now there was one less. How could this not make the boys envious and resentful?
Unfortunately, no one dared to provoke Roy. Actually, he was quite looking forward to this kind of face-slapping scenario, but the boys at school were too cowardly and didn't give him the chance.
Since the Halloween incident, Jennifer had returned home once, just to pack her luggage and move to Neidy's house.
So, Roy and the others saw that the house still looked like a murder scene, with white chalk outlines of bodies on the floor.
"Jennifer, aren't you going to clean up this house?"
"There's no need to clean up. I won't be living in this house again anyway."
For Jennifer, this house was just a place she had lived before. She didn't feel at home here. On the contrary, she was very happy living at Neidy's house.
Arthur and Rebecca truly treated Jennifer like their own daughter.
"Found it!"
Jennifer rummaged through the cabinets at home for a while and finally found a small pill bottle in the bathroom.
"Let me see! Zopiclone, fast-acting hypnotic, prolongs sleep duration, improves sleep quality, reduces nighttime awakenings and early awakenings. This should be it!"
She shook the pill bottle. It was already empty.
"Jennifer, look around and see if there are any pills left."
"I'll help too!"
Neidy and Nancy joined the search for pills, but they only found a few empty pill bottles and some moldy leaves.
"It seems my foster parents had already finished the zopiclone before they died."
Jennifer was a little disappointed, feeling like she hadn't been helpful.
"At least we know the name of the drug. If we think of a way, maybe we can get some."
Roy comforted Jennifer, but Jennifer shook her head.
"But these kinds of psychiatric drugs are all prescription drugs. Pharmacies won't sell them to us."
What Jennifer said was indeed a problem.
Although the problem of drug abuse in America was already very serious in this era, that was mainly in big cities. Small towns like Waterfall Town hadn't developed to that point yet.
Especially since most of the adults in town knew each other. If you dared to go to the pharmacy to buy drugs randomly, your family would find out that night.
At this moment, Neidy had a hesitant expression, as if she wanted to say something.
Roy noticed Neidy's expression.
"Neidy, did you think of something?"
"I think I saw Wade selling some small pills at school once."
This made Roy pause. He recalled the original owner's memories and then realized that Wade did occasionally sell some psychiatric drugs at school.
"Is that kid really that bold? Let's go, I'll take you guys back to school first, then I'll go talk to Wade."
Chapter 97: The Deformed Man
Our Mr. Wild Card, after finishing his lunch, took a leisurely stroll around the oak forest to digest.
In the afternoon, club activities resumed, but Wade didn't participate in any, so he had a relatively relaxed time.
Suddenly, a strong arm wrapped around Wade's neck from behind.
"Hey, Wade, let's have a chat!"
The voice startled Wade. He recognized Roy's voice, but the two of them usually didn't interact much. They would only exchange a few words occasionally in class, and once they left the classroom, they were basically strangers.
The fact that the original owner of this body didn't even invite Wade to that opening party showed that their relationship was actually quite ordinary.
"Ouch, easy there, Roy! My neck can't handle your arm!"
Roy forcibly dragged Wade into the oak forest, then released him to catch his breath.
"Whew, what's so important that you had to bring me here to talk about it?"
"I heard from someone that you sell drugs?"
Upon hearing this, Wade was stunned for a moment, then a sly smile quickly spread across his face.
"Ha! So that's what this is about! Roy, are you looking for emergency contraception? A little help in a pinch, I get it! But I'm a bit curious, who was the unlucky one? Jennifer, Nidi, or that new girl Nancy?"
As soon as Wade mentioned contraception, Roy thought of the incident where Elizabeth had tricked him.
Just thinking about it made Roy angry. He punched the trunk of an oak tree, twenty or thirty centimeters in diameter, next to Wade.
The tree trunk was actually bent by Roy's punch, which scared Wade half to death.
"Wait, I was just kidding! Roy, if you need any contraception, I can give you a few!"
Wade backed down very quickly. He had no choice; his small frame was definitely not as sturdy as the tree next to him.
"Cut the crap! I heard you sell some psychotropic drugs. Do you have any zopiclone?"
"Zopiclone? Are you having trouble sleeping lately?"
Wade's expression was noticeably surprised.
"Don't ask so many questions. Just tell me if you have it or not!"
Wade scratched his head, looking very helpless.
"I don't have any on hand right now. Basically, no one wants that kind of drug. I usually sell levonorgestrel or oxycodone."
Roy rolled his eyes. This Wade's connections were really something else!
Levonorgestrel was the contraception Wade had just mentioned, usually used for emergency contraception after the fact.
Abortion was very troublesome in conservative states, so to avoid any unwanted pregnancies, it was necessary to prepare some before a party. Otherwise, you'd be looking at shotgun weddings.
As for oxycodone, Roy only learned about it from some news reports in his previous life. It was an opioid prescription painkiller with a certain degree of addictiveness.
Those interested could check out the American drama "Dopesick." The show reveals how a pharmaceutical giant packaged a highly addictive painkiller as a safe drug, then had doctors prescribe it in large quantities, leading to patient addiction.
In short, Wade's dealings were very illegal.
However, Roy wasn't interested in whether Wade's actions were illegal or not. He wasn't a cop.
Besides, America would actively embrace chemical bliss in the future. He just wanted to get his hands on zopiclone to get through the current predicament.
"Can you get your hands on this kind of drug? I can pay a high price!"
Roy took out a stack of hundred-dollar bills, which Penny had given him earlier.
Seeing the green US dollars, Wade was immediately tempted.
After all, this guy dared to sell oxycodone, let alone the relatively safer zopiclone.
"I can see what I can do. I'll let you know."
"When can you have news?"
"The day after tomorrow, no, I should have news tomorrow."
Tomorrow? That definitely wouldn't be in time. Nancy might not even make it through tonight.
"Wade, I urgently need this drug! Do me a favor, can you get it for me today? I can pay more!"
Upon hearing this, Wade hesitated, seemingly weighing the pros and cons.
Seeing Wade's expression, Roy knew that this guy actually had a way, but he was worried about some things.
Perhaps he was afraid of being reported by Roy, or maybe he was worried that Roy would steal his money-making channel.
At this time, Roy needed to persuade him with kind words.
"Wade, don't forget, I saved your life back then."
In the House of Wax incident, the memories of these students were indeed altered by Elizabeth, but in the altered memories, Roy still saved the other students.
"Okay, you're right, I do owe you one! But are you sure you're not trying to steal my business?"
Roy rolled his eyes.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Why would I do this with my bright future?"
Wade thought it made sense, so he stopped hiding anything.
"My cousin is a doctor at the Gospel Sanatorium. The drugs I sell all come from him. If you urgently need zopiclone now, I can only get some from him, and the price will definitely be very high."
So that was the connection. No wonder Wade could always get drugs to sell.
However, the management of this Gospel Sanatorium was quite lax. Michael Myers had escaped from this sanatorium before, and now there was a drug dealer.
"It's okay, money is not a problem, but I must get the drug today."
"I'll call and ask."
Wade took out his phone and found a spot with signal to make a call.
"My cousin said it's possible, but not during the day. He happens to be on duty tonight, so we can go to the Gospel Sanatorium to find him tonight."
"Okay, I'll come find you after school."
Roy still had to arrange with Nancy and the others what to do before they got the zopiclone.
It would be best if the three girls stayed together tonight, supervising each other to prevent falling asleep, and wait for Roy to bring the medicine back. That would be safer.
Not long after Roy left, Wade's phone rang.
"Hey, cousin, is there anything wrong? You're asking what time we'll arrive tonight? I think my client is in a hurry, can we come as early as possible?"
"I'd like to come earlier too, but no matter what, we have to wait until the sanatorium turns off the lights at eight o'clock, right?"
On the other end of the phone was a man in his thirties wearing gold-rimmed glasses, sitting in an office.
"Eight o'clock it is. We'll leave after dinner, and we should arrive around that time. Cousin Seth, please be careful then. My client has a bit of a temper."
"I got it. Looks like someone's looking for me, I'll hang up first!"
After hanging up, Seth looked at the office door that had been knocked on.
"Come in."
A middle-aged woman in a nurse's uniform pushed open the door.
"Dr. Seth, the director wants to see you."
"Got it, I'll be right there."
Seth straightened his clothes and then went to the director's office.
Walking into the director's office, Seth noticed a young, red-haired woman in the office.
"Director Spencer, you wanted to see me?"
"Oh, Seth, you're here! This is Dr. Maggie Upton, who's here for an internship. Please show her around the sanatorium."
"Okay."
"By the way, Seth, how long have you been at the sanatorium?"
"It's been three years."
"Has it been three years already?"
Seth couldn't help but feel a bit surprised at the meaningful expression on Spencer's face.
"Director Spencer, is there a problem?"
"Oh, no, it's just a bit of a reflection. Time really flies. I still remember your first day on the job. Three years have passed in the blink of an eye."
Seth didn't think too much about it and nodded, preparing to show the new intern around.
"Then, Director Spencer, I'll take her out now?"
"Go ahead."
Seth led the young red-haired woman out of the director's office.
"Hello, my name is Seth Rake."
"Hello!"
Maggie Upton seemed a bit reserved, which was typical for interns.
Seth thought the red-haired girl was quite pretty and couldn't help but start a conversation with her.
"Ms. Upton, why did you want to do your internship at such a remote sanatorium?"
The newest and most complete novels are first published here!
"I actually live in Springwood near the sanatorium, so it's not too far."
Upon hearing this, Seth was a bit surprised.
"You're from Springwood too? I don't think I've ever seen you before."
"Wait, you are too?"
Then Seth and Maggie checked with each other and found out that they were from the same neighborhood and didn't live far from each other.
It was just that they rarely ran into each other due to their studies, which was why they didn't know each other.
Well, no matter which country you're in, it takes a long time to become a licensed doctor.
As a result, the atmosphere between Seth and Maggie instantly became different.
"Maggie, the Gospel Sanatorium mainly takes in mental patients, some of whom can be quite dangerous. You must be careful."
"Dangerous? How dangerous can they be?"
Maggie didn't seem to care much. To make her realize the seriousness of the issue, Seth had no choice but to use the incident that happened last Halloween as an example.
"Last Halloween, a mental patient who had been confirmed safe suddenly escaped from the sanatorium and killed a couple in Springwood."
Maggie gasped and covered her mouth in surprise.
"Oh my god, I think my mom mentioned this! So the killer escaped from the sanatorium?"
From Maggie's reaction, it was clear that the Gospel Sanatorium's cover-up was quite successful.
"Yes, so you must be careful when you work here."
Maggie nodded seriously.
"I will."
"Actually, you don't need to be too careful. That Halloween incident was an exception. The Gospel Sanatorium hasn't had an accident in several years. Let me show you the safe area first."
Seth led Maggie to the inpatient area of the sanatorium. There were many strange patients wandering around.
"The patients here are all relatively harmless. You just need to pay a little attention, and there won't be any major problems. If nothing unexpected happens, your internship should also take place here."
Maggie nodded while observing the surrounding environment.
The surroundings were elegant, with beautiful scenery and a peaceful atmosphere. It did look quite safe.
However, Maggie was young and curious, and she wanted to see something more exciting.
"Seth, since there's a safe area, does that mean there's also a dangerous area? Can you take me to see it?"
Upon hearing this, Seth hesitated, but he found it hard to refuse the request of a pretty girl. Moreover, he wasn't exactly a law-abiding person to begin with.
Otherwise, he wouldn't be partnering with his cousin to sell drugs from the sanatorium.
"Okay, but you absolutely can't tell anyone!"
"Don't worry, I definitely won't say a word!"
Seth led Maggie to the depths of the Gospel Sanatorium. This place was deserted, with no nurses or patients in sight. Instead, there were some armed guards patrolling.
"Who are they?"
"They're military security hired by the sanatorium. The sanatorium has a partnership with the Austin city government and takes in some mentally ill criminals."
Hearing this, Maggie understood.
In this day and age, America's private prison industry had already begun to take off, and the government had started to transfer a large number of criminals to alleviate the pressure on public prisons.
Seth opened a large iron gate. Behind the gate was a downward staircase. It turned out that the dangerous area was located in the basement of the sanatorium.
This place looked nothing like a sanatorium; it was more like a prison.
There were iron railings similar to those in prisons, and the entire dangerous area didn't even have a window. The environment was completely different from the safe area.
The patients here looked even stranger in their behavior. Maggie even saw several deformed patients, which made her feel very disgusted.
Seth on the side gave a brief introduction.
"These patients are the products of incest. Their bodies have mutated, and their minds are extremely perverted. Before being brought here, they had already killed dozens of people and eaten all their victims."
Maggie frowned, a look of disgust on her face.
"Why are these guys still locked up? Why not just send them to the electric chair!"
Seth shrugged, his face full of helplessness.
"Who knows what those bureaucratic old men are thinking? They always like to mess with useless things."
"Maybe Commissioner Smith is short on cash and needs some funding."
The two looked at each other and burst into laughter. Political jokes always made Americans happy.
Perhaps they were laughing too happily. Maggie didn't pay attention to her surroundings for a moment and was grabbed by a deformed man through the iron railing.
"Ah!"
Maggie screamed, and Seth quickly played the hero, slapping the deformed man back several times.
"Maggie, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, let's go back upstairs!"
The still-shaken Maggie was in no mood to continue the tour, so she suggested returning to the safe area.
Seth nodded and led Maggie away. Neither of them noticed that the metal pendant Maggie was wearing around her neck was gone.
Time quickly came to night. Roy had already made arrangements for Nancy and the others.
Due to the threat of Freddy, Nancy and the others decided to spend the night together at Jennifer's house to avoid any accidents.
Roy, after finishing dinner, found Wade.
"Ready to go?"
"Of course! I just got off the phone with my cousin. He said it's no problem!"
"Alright, let's go in my car."
The Gospel Sanatorium was located on the mountain of the famous Great Falls scenic spot west of Springwood. It was a remote place with no streetlights.
Late at night, only Roy's secondhand yellow Chevrolet Camaro was driving on the winding mountain road. This ghostly place didn't even have a signal for the car radio.
Bored, Roy and Wade started chatting.
As they chatted, Roy felt that although Wade had a sharp tongue and liked to be a sycophant, he was actually a pretty good guy.
An hour later, Roy vaguely saw a large, dark building.
"Have we arrived?"
"Looks like it! Strange, why aren't the lights on at the sanatorium?"
"Maybe there's a power outage. Let's go in and take a look."
Here's another Yelena (Angelina Jolie).
