*Chapter 47: Digital Camera*
🕑 Added 2025-05-05 19:14:37 +0000 UTCRoy thought that setting aside two hours to reach Aspen was more than enough, considering Aspen was only about a hundred kilometers from Denver.
But he didn't expect to run into a traffic jam just as he was about to reach the foot of Snowmass Mountain near Aspen.
Looking at the long line of cars crawling along in front, Roy felt that even three hours might not be enough to reach the bed and breakfast he had booked.
Feeling a bit bored, and with no one to talk to since Heather was asleep in the back seat.
Roy suddenly remembered that he had a destiny treasure chest that he hadn't opened yet. Maybe he should open it now.
"System, open Mason's destiny treasure chest!"
[Opening Mason's destiny treasure chest...]
[Gained 1 point of Willpower!]
[Gained Mason's digital camera!]
Roy wasn't too surprised that he only got 1 point of Willpower.
Mason was just an ordinary person, so he probably wouldn't yield many attribute points. However, Roy hadn't expected to get the tool of his trade.
[Mason's Digital Camera: This digital camera witnessed too many terrifying deaths in Mason's hands. Under the influence of vengeful spirits, the digital camera has undergone some changes. You can see things through it that are normally invisible.]
Judging by this, it seems like he can capture ghosts with Mason's digital camera?
Roy immediately took out the digital camera from his inventory and started filming around. The camera focused on Heather, who was asleep in the back seat.
Heather was frowning, as if she was having a nightmare.
Roy was about to put the digital camera away when he noticed a faint black line hanging from the car roof onto Heather's face in the camera's monitor.
Digital cameras of this era had relatively low resolution, so you might not notice these black lines unless you looked closely.
When Roy moved the digital camera away and looked with his own eyes, he found nothing on Heather's face.
What the heck is that?
Roy reached out to pull the black line, but his hand went right through it.
Okay, it seems like they really encountered a ghost. Physical rules don't apply to them.
Fortunately, Roy now possessed the Key of Solomon, and he happened to know some simple ways to directly interact with spirits.
Closing his eyes, he calmed his mind and then guided the power of his mind to leave the confines of his body.
Soon, a faint blue light appeared on one of Roy's hands. This was the power of the mind.
Solomon's knowledge contained many powerful spells, but they weren't very suitable for Roy because his Memory and Spirit attributes were too low.
For a wizard, 20 points in Memory and Spirit were just the basics.
So Roy could only use this set of ancient wizard training methods to deal with that intangible black line.
Reaching out to grab the black line again, this time Roy successfully touched it, and then he pulled hard.
Through the digital camera, more black lines could be seen appearing on the car roof. Upon closer inspection, it turned out these black lines were actually hair.
"Get down here!"
Roy started to exert force, wanting to pull the owner of the hair out directly. His 24 points of Strength were fully utilized at this moment. The thing on the car roof was being pulled out bit by bit, and a head could already be vaguely seen.
This thick, long black hair, enough to make programmers envious, even covered the entire face.
No mistake, it's definitely Sadako Yamamura!
Sadako quickly realized that she was no match for Roy in terms of strength, so she broke off her hair and disappeared.
"F***! Lucky you ran fast!"
Without the influence of Sadako's hair, Heather's expression softened in her sleep, as if she was sleeping more soundly.
Just then, the traffic jam ahead seemed to start moving. Roy placed the digital camera on the passenger seat and continued driving.
In the end, Roy arrived at the town of Snowmass Mountain 45 minutes later than expected.
"Roy, I just had a really strange dream! I dreamt I was in a pitch-black well, and I couldn't climb out no matter what. I was so scared! Then I suddenly heard your voice, and then a white light came down from the sky, and I came out of the well!"
Heather hugged Roy as she described her dream.
The two were currently refueling at a gas station in Snowmass Mountain, and also getting some hot coffee to perk themselves up.
Hearing Heather's description, Roy's heart stirred.
Sadako's hair really did have an effect on Heather. This female ghost probably uses this method to gradually transfer the power of the curse to those who have watched the videotape.
"Really? So it was my doing? How are you going to reward me?"
Heather tiptoed and left a clear lipstick mark on Roy's nose.
"This is my reward."
"Heather, this little reward isn't enough!"
"Hmm... can I give you the rest tonight?"
The newest novels are first released here!
"Then I'm going to charge interest! Heather, wait here for a moment, I'm going to make a call."
Having finished his hot coffee, Roy prepared to contact the real estate agent he had spoken to earlier.
The bored Heather suddenly noticed an extra digital camera in the car. She thought Roy had secretly bought it to record their vacation, so she happily started playing with it.
"Hello, is this the real estate agent? I've arrived in Snowmass Mountain town, where are you?"
"How are you... just arriving now? I've already... arranged everything according to your request... the accommodation, you come... here!" (The agent's speech is broken and unclear)
There was a lot of static on the real estate agent's phone call, and some of the content was completely unintelligible.
"Hello? Your phone signal is very bad, I can't hear you clearly! Say the address again!"
"At...! Snowmass Mountain town's... Japanese-style bed and breakfast, very good..." (The agent's speech is still broken)
Roy still didn't hear the address clearly the second time, and the real estate agent's phone call was directly cut off.
Roy was a bit speechless. Was America's infrastructure really this bad?
Based on the information he just heard, Roy roughly guessed that the real estate agent meant there was only one Japanese-style bed and breakfast in Snowmass Mountain, and it was easy to find.
Since that was the case, he might as well just drive around the town.
After getting back into the car, Roy saw Heather excitedly filming everywhere with the digital camera.
"Roy, did you buy this digital camera specifically?"
"Uh, sort of. Heather, this digital camera is actually for filming ghosts."
"What? Filming ghosts?"
"Heather, do you remember the videotape we saw at the motel in the middle of the night? That was actually a cursed videotape. Anyone who watches it will die horribly within seven days."
At this moment, Heather still thought Roy was joking.
"Roy, it's not time for ghost stories yet! If you're going to tell one, you should wait until tonight!"
"Listen to me, Heather! This isn't a joke, and it's not a ghost story! The reason I was looking for the videotape at the motel was to confirm this, and haven't you also been feeling a bit strange since watching it?"
Hearing this, Heather finally started to feel scared.
"Roy, what should we do?"
"Heather, trust me, I'll protect you!"
