Chapter 40: Amy and David
🕑 Added 2025-05-01 05:03:17 +0000 UTCThree days before Christmas Eve, Roy drove his second-hand yellow Chevrolet Camaro to the Sawyer estate to pick up Heather.
Yep, Christmas is a very important day for Westerners, so Roy hadn't forgotten about Heather.
Heather was quite touched that Roy would leave his family to spend Christmas with her. She didn't know that it wasn't Roy leaving his family, but rather his family leaving him.
After instructing the servants in the villa to look after the house, Heather got in the car with Roy, and they set off.
"Roy, where are we going on vacation?"
"The Aspen ski resort."
"Colorado? Cool! I've wanted to go there for ages! Are we driving?"
"Mmhmm!"
Colorado is only one state away from Texas, and Waterfall Town is in northern Texas, so even by car, it wouldn't take a full day to get there.
If Roy set off now, he could reach Aspen by the latest early morning.
However, the main reason Roy chose to drive was that he hadn't seen Heather much lately due to exams and school activities, so he wanted to spend more time with her this way.
Time management is a really important skill. Roy really wanted to sign up for a refresher course to learn more about it.
"But, they'll be there too, for the Aspen vacation."
Hearing this, Heather's mood instantly dropped. Of course, she knew who Roy meant by "they."
"But they're flying into Aspen the day before Christmas Eve, so it'll just be you and me until then."
Heather quickly caught the key information.
"Just you and me for two days?"
"Yep."
Heather gave Roy a quick kiss on the cheek and became happy again.
This girl was still so easily satisfied.

Heading north, after leaving Texas, snowflakes began to fall from the sky.
This was something Roy hadn't expected. The weather forecast clearly said that the weather in Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado would be relatively clear today, which is why he chose to drive today.
After the snow fell, the road became slippery. Luckily, Roy had come prepared.
It took some time to put snow chains on the tires, but the car's speed was still affected.
They drove until evening, and there were still one hundred and fifty kilometers to their destination, Aspen.
They could continue driving, but with the snow falling and no streetlights along the way, it was really too dangerous.
So, Roy decided to find a motel nearby for the night and set off again the next morning.
"The map shows that if we take the small road ahead, there's a motel not far away, and a gas station too."
"Great, we can rest there for a bit."
Suddenly, Roy noticed a black sedan parked on the side of the road ahead. In this weather, parking a car on the side of the road definitely meant something was wrong.
Roy slowly slowed down and stopped next to the sedan. Sure enough, he saw a man and a woman inside who looked like a couple, shivering all over, clearly freezing.
"Hey, do you guys need help?"
When encountering something like this on the road, it's always good to help if you can, especially since Roy's current strength meant he didn't have to worry about encountering bad people.
The woman in the sedan made the sign of the cross on her chest.
"Thank God, someone finally found us!"
"Get in the car quickly. I'm heading to the motel up ahead, I can give you a ride."
"Thank you, sir!"
The two got into Roy's yellow Camaro. Luckily, this muscle car had four seats, otherwise, it wouldn't have been able to fit so many people.
Roy glanced at the two in the rearview mirror and found that the woman looked somewhat familiar.
Wait a minute, isn't that Kate Beckinsale, the English rose?
Roy was also very familiar with this woman, especially as the Moon Goddess in Underworld. She was just too beautiful.
However, the Kate Beckinsale in front of him seemed a bit haggard and older.
Had she entered another movie plot?
Roy couldn't recall for a moment, so he started chatting with the two.
"What are your names?"
"I'm David."
"I'm Amy."
While Roy was sizing up the two, David and Amy were actually also observing him and Heather.
After all, even in America, this handsome man and beautiful woman were a relatively rare sight.
"Are you two married?"
"No!"
"Yes."
Two completely opposite answers.
"David, what do you mean? We agreed that we'd get divorced when we got to Denver!"

"But we're not divorced yet, are we? As long as we're not divorced, we're still married!"
Roy could tell that these two were probably a couple whose relationship had broken down and were on their way to get a divorce.
Amy didn't want to argue with David anymore. She looked at Roy, who was driving, and felt that he was really too handsome.
"Are you two on a romantic road trip?"
"Yes, I'm Roy, and this is my girlfriend Heather."
Heather was very happy that Roy publicly acknowledged her as his girlfriend in front of strangers, and a sweet smile appeared on her face.
Seeing the sweet way Roy and Heather were, Amy couldn't help but think of when she was young.
Ten years ago, Amy and David were in this kind of state, and after a road trip, they got married and had children.
But all the happiness completely shattered a few months ago. Amy and David's child died in an accident, and Amy believed it was all David's fault.
So, the two began to argue constantly until their relationship completely broke down.
This trip was for Amy and David to officially get divorced in Denver, the city where they had originally gotten married.
"I think we're here!"
Roy had already seen the gas station sign. When he drove over, he found that the gas station was closed.
However, the motel across from the gas station was still open, and the sign's lights were still on.
Roy parked the car, and the four of them got out and entered the front desk area.
There was no one at the front desk, but there were some strange noises coming from the room behind it.
"Hello? Is anyone there?"
There was no response from inside. Roy noticed a bell on the counter, so he walked over and rang it.
After the clear sound of the bell rang, a middle-aged man with a small mustache quickly came out from the room behind the front desk.
"Sorry! Sorry! I was watching a TV show inside and got a bit engrossed, didn't notice any guests coming in!"
Roy and the others didn't think much of it and directly asked to book rooms.
"Do you have any vacancies? We need two rooms."
"No problem, please register your names first. Are you all together?"
Roy casually wrote down two names in the registration book. Anyway, these kinds of motels usually don't verify guest names.
"We met on the road. My car broke down, and thankfully this young man gave us a ride here. By the way, do you have the phone number for a towing service or a mechanic?"
"Of course, but they've definitely closed for the day by now. Why not call them tomorrow?"
The motel owner handed two sets of keys to Roy and David respectively.
"You're right, let's just rest for the night."
The mustached motel owner winked at the four of them.
"Have a good night and sweet dreams!"
