Like Liz I too am disgusted that I have to feel newly (even more so than before) like a potential terrorist target because the U.S. has gone so hard for Israel. We’ve legitimized their argument that Gazans voted for Hamas and therefore they’re also Hamas or whatever, so basically endorsing the mirrored position that we all voted for our string of shitty governments and therefore are ourselves legitimate targets. I was just arguing there are /good reasons/ to cover suicide (i.e., the coverage of suicides of trans kids) that the media already accepts, and therefore the attempted media blackout on bushnell on the grounds that coverage would encourage suicide is disingenuous. Matt argued that there's a difference between covering suicide and glorifying suicide, and I argued it doesn't matter if suicide coverage is glorifying suicide or not, it still has a contagion effect. (I appear to be correct: https://www.bmj.com/content/368/bmj.m575) But that doesn't mean the media shouldn't cover it when there are good reasons to cover it, imho. That was the substance of the argument.

Matt, if your brain ever gets into that rut state again, where it doesn't have something to focus that big brain on, a reminder that you once suggested doing a series on the functional workings of the USSR. It would not be any kind of common socialist take on what was good or bad about the USSR, but just the working of it. How are resources allocated at each level of bureaucratic structure from ore extraction to machine tools to consumer items to housing to food, etc. I will also remind you that if you do this, I'm willing to pay a lot extra for it, either create a new tier, or sell it in its own. This is information I've collected over time, so I have some of it, but I need it all run through the Matt brain and then regurgitated.

On the topic of “types”, I work a job that involves brushing shoulders with tech/Silicon Valley guys and there’s an inside joke that enjoys bipartisan popularity with my fellow zoomers that sates u can tell right wing from left wing dudes based on “physiognomy checks”. So the story goes, right wing dudes are more jacked with bigger pecs/shoulders and forearm girth is considered a “dead giveaway” whereas left wing dudes are more skinny fat wid curly jewfros. The self-immolation was streamed under the name 'LillyAnarKitty', lilly is a popular chosen name for trans women and the trans anarchist cat girl is a Contrapoints stock character. They also found Bushnell's reddit account was active in some trans subreddits, and posted 'One Day I hope to be like you' in response to an air force service member coming out as trans.
