It's a messaging/communication/chat app -- originally intended for gamers, though you don't actually have to do gaming to use it. You can set up a channel (I think they call it a 'server'), and in that channel you can have multiple different ongoing chat threads. Maybe someone else can describe it better but that's what I've seen of it. I know some people prefer using that over Patreon for communicating with fans -- though I discontinued using it pretty quickly myself.
