The earth trembled as something tore through the sky, wreathed in fire and trailing smoke. Now, in the heart of the forest, the ground is sundered—a smoldering crater where once stood towering trees. The air is thick with the scent of burning wood and scorched earth, the distant echo of the impact still ringing in the bones of those who dare to draw near. Whatever fell from the heavens was not meant to land here, and its arrival has left the land scarred and shrouded in mystery.
At the center of the map lies a massive crater, its jagged edges lined with shattered rock and upturned soil. The force of the impact has splintered trees like brittle twigs, their trunks cast aside in chaotic heaps. Pockets of fire burn across the landscape, sending columns of smoke into the sky as embers drift like falling stars. Scattered debris stretches outward in all directions—charred remains of the forest mingled with fragments of something far less natural.
Notes:
Environmental Hazards – The unstable ground around the crater is riddled with loose debris, jagged splinters, and deep fissures that could collapse underfoot. Lingering fires create patches of difficult terrain, while thick smoke obscures vision and hampers ranged attacks. The heat in certain areas is intense enough to cause damage over time.
Possible Loot – Scattered among the wreckage, the party might find fragments of an unknown metal, still humming with residual energy. A partially buried satchel, singed but intact, contains a journal detailing strange astronomical calculations. If the impact was not entirely natural, there may be remnants of something—perhaps someone—that fell from the sky, carrying secrets of its origin.
Creatures or Enemies – Charred, restless corpses stir within the crater, animated by whatever force came crashing down. Packs of scavengers—desperate bandits or mutated beasts—prowl the wreckage, drawn by curiosity and hunger. If the object is otherworldly, something unnatural may have survived the descent, lurking within the smoldering pit.
Encounter Hook – A local seer, eyes wild with prophecy, claims that what fell from the heavens carries a curse—or a blessing. They beg the party to retrieve something from the impact site before it’s too late. Meanwhile, a rival group is already on the move, determined to claim whatever secrets the crater holds.
Tactical Feature – The jagged edges of the crater provide elevation for ranged attackers, while fallen trees and scattered boulders create natural cover. The fire and smoke can be used for ambushes or to force enemies into disadvantageous positions. Certain unstable areas may collapse if too much weight is applied, creating impromptu hazards or revealing hidden dangers below.
