Go watch GLOW
🕑 Added 2018-08-29 20:35:34 +0000 UTCThis is a public service announcement to go watch GLOW as soon as you get the chance, assuming you have Netflix.
In case you're not aware of it - it's gone kind of under the radar - it's a series detailing the trials and tribulations of an all-women professional wrestling team trying to make it on 80s cable TV. It stars a diverse array of fantastic lady actors, many of whom were unable to break into the industry prior to the show's production, and covers topics like racial coding, parasocial relationships, self-commodification and of course the rampant sexism both implicit and explicit at the time. It's on its second season and as I say has not (as of yet) been a big hit despite getting better and better over time and truly firing on all cylinders - I have no doubt anyone who would be a fan of left-theory dorks like myself will really enjoy the show.
So this post just isn't a big dumb ad, I'll also give an update on the next video. It's supposed to be going up tomorrow afternoon but honestly I really messed up my sleep schedule and it's kind of ruined me today - I tried to do the thing where you min-max naps instead of actually going to bed so I could squeeze in as much work as possible, but shockingly it just resulted in me being absolutely exhausted and unable to focus. I'm recovered now but the video might come a day late (hopefully not though). Lesson learned, and I really don't want this to be a regular occurrence - summarily, I apologize and I hope I don't disappoint anybody.
Look out for an update very soon!

oh gosh! glow is one of my absolute favourite netflix shows, there's so much to love about the characters and the setting and how interaction happens. one of my favorite things is it shows men failing at being feminist, like our two male leads are clearly pro women and love women and think women should be treated better, but at the same time their racism, and world views often feed into the same mistreatment as a lot of people in those days, you've got character who clearly have sympathy, but do not understand empathy enough to go the full mile.
