Dunk had to challenge the guy or else it would seem sketchy. Like if this high born knight challenged a Hedge knight it would seem too weird and would tarnish his honor to even beat him. Like the strong picking on the weak. But if a hedge knight challenged him, people would find it funny and not think he had any chance. There's honestly also the practical reality that both knowing he could be certain to not accidentally really harm their heir.

I love that when I watched it, and every reactor I watch also, got chills when the theme started playing and Baelor stepped up. And the knighting scene made me think of Jamie and Brienne, I got misty eyed there. This show is so damn good.
