Nichole's Adoption - Chapter 2
🕑 Added 2023-08-10 12:00:03 +0000 UTCThankfully, Traci and Miles were tactful enough not to ask about the diaper on the car ride home, even though Nichole had no doubt that they were curious about it. She wanted to explain it away, but she was too embarrassed about the whole affair, especially that part of it, how much more humiliating her time at school had been since they had declared her a bedwetter, to bring it up herself.
"You're welcome to stay with us as long as you need, or want," Traci offered. She suspected they'd discussed it, knew that it would sound more convincing coming from her... Nichole might have worried about the other woman's reaction if Miles had been the one to say it.
"I'll get out of your hair as soon as I can," Nichole promised. "But I'm going to have to find a new job, I'm sure, since I just stopped showing up to my old one, and I need to figure out what's going on with my apartment, and..."
"It's all right," Miles smiled at her in the rear-view mirror. "You can take your time with all that. We don't mind, really."
Nichole squirmed in her seat, melting a bit to hear it coming from him, even with his wife in the seat next to him. Of course, it was hard to believe he meant anything by it because of that, and because Nichole was still wearing her stupid uniform, complete with her thick, white, cotton panties that made her look, and feel, like a little kid.
"I'll do my best," Nichole told him with a shy smile into the mirror.
"Should we stop by the store?" Traci asked. "We bought you a few things, but we had to guess on the sizes."
Nichole shrugged. All she wanted to do, honestly, was get out of the uniform and never wear it again... If she had a chance to burn it, she wouldn't say no to that, either. "I'm sure whatever you got is fine for now."
In the mirror's reflection, Nichole saw Traci's eyes flicking over, giving Miles a look. "I don't know," she said skeptically. "I think it might be better if we had a quick little shopping trip."
"Really?" Nichole whined, blushing as she heard the tone of her own voice, how much it sounded like a grumpy child she'd been forced to act like at school rather than the adult she knew she was, that she could be again now. "Okay," she changed her tune rapidly. "I-If you think it's for the best."
"I do," Traci nodded. And when they got to the store, she told Miles, "Why don't you wait here? I don't think we'll be long."
"Sure thing," he agreed. "You gals do what you need to do."
It was hard to not think of the last time she'd been in a store, how that was what kicked this whole debacle off, as she followed Traci inside. She looked far more like a little girl now than she had then... But at least she had an 'adult' with her to hopefully keep her from being kidnapped again, so long as she stuck close, though doing so made her seem even more childish.
"S-So, what do we need?" she asked when they got inside. "I-I mean, what do you have already?"
"Not a ton," Traci admitted. "Like I said, we got a few things... Without knowing your size, it felt silly to get too much, and we weren't sure how much you might have to bring with you anyway..."
The answer, of course, had been nothing. She did have a small suitcase filled with a few uniforms and some PJs the school had sent with her; she had no intention of wearing either ever again if she could help it. "I-I don't really want to spend too long on this," she told Traci quietly, tugging nervously on her skirt. "N-Not today..."
"Of course," Traci said. "I get it... But we could grab something for you to relax in around the house, and some pajamas, so you'd be more comfortable, and then we can do this again in a couple days."
"All right," Nichole admitted. "That does sound good. Can I go ahead and change in the bathroom before we leave, too?"
Traci beamed. "Absolutely, if that will make you feel better. You don't have to ask my permission, though, you know."
Nichole blushed. "Oh... Right." Traci was, theoretically, her mother now, according to the paperwork they'd had to sign to get her out of the school, but that didn't mean anything, not really. Traci was just her friend, looking out for her after a tough time, and she quickly found herself able to think of her that way as she tried on a few outfits and they chatted.
Until they were on their way to check out, and Traci took them on a detour. "Why are we going this way?" Nichole frowned. "The check-outs are back over there."
"I know," Traci said. "But while we're here, I thought we might want to get something else, too..."
Nichole had no clue what she was talking about... Until Traci led her into the diaper aisle, the sight of which made Nichole's stomach twist up into knots. "Wh-Why are we here?" she pouting, devolving once more into a whiny little girl.
"Well, the school told us..." Traci started.
"No," Nichole snapped. "I don't need them!"
"But when we got there today..." Traci pointed out.
"No!" Nichole put her foot down.
"Okay," Traci relented. "I just wanted to offer... Just in case."
That, Nichole realized, was why she'd had Miles wait in the car. She was grateful for that, and that Traci believed her, seemingly, but she still wasn't pleased about having the conversation in general. She especially wanted to forget that particular part of her time at the school.
Unfortunately, she wasn't going to get a chance. They had a very calm rest of their day once they got to Traci and Miles's home, and Nichole was able to change into her new clothes. She started feeling tired around when light's out at school was, but she was determined to stay up as late as them.
So she was still awake, if drowsy, when they all heard a knock on the door. They exchanged a confused look at who would be visiting this time of night, Miles getting up to go answer, returning to the living room with Ms. Brooks trailing behind him.
Nicole gave a panicked glance to her friends, who appeared just as taken aback as her. Ms. Brooks had promised to keep an eye on them, yes... She hadn't expected her to show up so soon, however, with no warning. In the headmistress's office, it had seemed like she wasn't planning on visiting in person until the next month, if that! Had she tricked them into believing that on purpose? Or had the headmistress asked her to make a special trip?
The woman took one look at them and crossed her arms. "What is she still doing up?" she demanded.
Nichole opened her mouth to tell her that she didn't have to follow the school's rules anymore, but Traci reached over, putting a hand on her knee, calming her down enough to remind her that, as far as anyone else was concerned, she was the child the school had listed her as, and Traci and Miles were were legal guardians. "She was having a hard time adjusting, so we let her stay up a bit longer tonight," Traci said.
"Hmm," the social worker sniffed. "And what is she wearing? That hardly seems appropriate for someone her age."
Nichole squirmed on the couch, looking down at her shorts and crop top. They didn't seem all that bad... Not for her actual age, anyway. "We haven't gone shopping yet," Traci lied. "We didn't want to put her through that so soon."
Ms. Brooks wasn't impressed by the spare bedroom they'd set up for her, either. "Did you do any work to prepare for her at all?" she asked. "This doesn't look like a little girl's room in the slightest."
Of course it didn't! Nichole didn't want it to... No more than she wanted Ms. Brooks to insist on sticking around, watching them get her ready for bed, forcing all of them to play their parts, standing by to watch her brush her teeth, hugging her, sending her to go get changed. "You trust her to do that on her own?" Nichole heard Ms. Brooks ask as she closed her bedroom door.
Nicole would have loved to put on the lacy little nightie she and Traci had picked out, but she knew she had to open up the dreaded suitcase from the school, pull out one of those sets of PJs. Those, at least, Ms. Brooks would approve of, no matter how sick the thought of wearing them again made Nichole, especially when her hand brushed against a diaper tucked away beneath them in the suitcase.
Or so she assumed until she opened up her door to let her 'parents' in to tuck her in, Ms. Brooks watching it all before scoffing, "You're going to let her go to bed like that? You didn't even check to see if she was in her night-time diaper, which she clearly isn't. Come on, out of bed, little one. I'll do it."
Nichole whimpered, squirming under her covers. "B-But..." She looked to Traci and Miles for help, but what could they do? It was her first night here... How could they tell Ms. Brooks with any authority, that they knew she didn't need them? She was already unhappy enough to discover that they didn't have any diapers for her, other than the few that the school had sent.
"I can tell," she shook her head in disapproval as she taped Nichole up into a diaper in front of all of them, "I'm going to have to keep a very close eye on all of you... And I'd better see some significant improvements very quickly if you want to keep your guardianship." She gave the fastened diaper a pat, pulling the PJ shorts back up. "There we are... Much better, isn't it?"
Nichole scowled, but she had little choice other than to say, "Yes, ma'am." Obviously, this was going to be more complicated than she, or her friends, had thought...
