Compromise - Chapter 36
🕑 Added 2023-07-28 12:00:04 +0000 UTCLizzie glanced over at the door, sure, for a moment, that she'd heard someone approaching from outside. She almost wished she'd waited to plant the camera until now, so she could have avoided Luther's gaze entirely, but she wasn't certain this was an improvement.
"Is something wrong, sweetie?" Brenda asked attentively; probably, she was used to dealing with Luther, who definitely was the kind of person who wanted things done right away, and, as was evidenced by Wendi, was willing to punish those who didn't do what he liked.
"N-No, ma'am," Lizzie lied.
"She wants to play with the daycare's toys," Wendi announced over her. "They have so many more than we have here!"
Brenda chuckled, Lizzie blushing slightly, not bothering to contradict the bigger woman, even if she'd given no indication of that herself. "Well, they'll be here any minute," she promised. "I'd take you there myself, but there are two of you, and I'd hate for one of you to run off and get lost."
"You have two hands," Wendi pointed out.
"I do," Brenda nodded condescendingly. "Good counting, Wendi! If you saw something you wanted to check out..." She stopped mid-sentence, perhaps not wanting to give the girl any ideas. It had been another tweener who had brought Wendi up from the daycare, but it had been only Wendi... If they'd had to keep Wendi on track to their destination, and she hadn't wanted to go, it would have been easy to lose track of a little on top of that. And this wasn't even Brenda's job, really, so Lizzie could understand her not putting herself through that stress.
Lizzie didn't mind anyway, not like the increasingly impatient Wendi. Glancing at the clock, she could see it hadn't been nearly as long as she'd thought, for better or worse. The more time it took for the workers to arrive, the less time Lizzie had to spend in the daycare, which would definitely by for the best.
"There are so many good ones!" Wendi told Lizzie, for what might have been the fifth time. "We're gonna have so much fun! And they show the funniest cartoon!"
Lizzie gulped, squirmed, diaper crinkling loudly beneath her onesie. That was what she was most afraid of... There were plenty of things that could happen to her in the daycare, but the horror stories she'd heard from littles who had come out of there, who had seen their friends go in to watch those 'funny' cartoons and came out completely changed - and not just their diapers - made her skin crawl.
So, the longer it took before she had to go there, to actively avoid that, the happier she'd be. Unfortunately, as soon as she thought that, the office door opened. "Do we have some babies in here who want to go play?"
A pair of tweeners in pink aprons stepped in, Wendi hopping to her feet, practically dragging Lizzie with her over to them. "Yeah!" she giggled. "Let's go!"
"Here," one of the tweeners told Wendi gently. "Why don't you let me carry your friend, Wendi? She looks too small to walk that far on her own."
Lizzie would have loved to protest that fact, but she didn't mind having her hand pried from Wendi's, and being carried didn't sound terrible, either. It would keep her from attempting to make an escape, sure... Had she really intended to do that anyway, though? Outrunning even a tweener was difficult enough when she wasn't so heavily diapered, and there were two of them, and Wendi, to contend with... And where was she going to go? She'd never make it out of the building if the daycare workers raised a runaway baby alarm, and if she did, somehow, get outside, she'd be running around the city in a onesie and diaper, ready to be scooped up by any passing Amazon, with no guarantee they'd be scrupulous enough to look for her Mommy instead of just keeping her for themselves.
The worker picked Lizzie up, resting her on her hip, smiling down at her. "Hi, cutie. My name is Lauren! What's yours?"
"She's Lizzie," Wendi answered for her.
"Is that right?" Lauren gave Lizzie a bounce, the little blushing and nodding. "Are you shy?" Lizzie shrugged, her blush deepening. "That's okay!" Lauren assured her. "I think we're going to be friends anyway! You know why?" Lizzie shook her head. "Our names both start with the same letter! Do you know what that is?"
Lizzie debated, for a moment, whether she should answer or not, whether her baby character would know that. Before she could settle on an answer, Wendy spoke up again. "It's 'l,' Lizzie!"
Lauren let out a small sigh, but she chuckled when Lizzie repeated, "L?"
"Very good, Lizzie," Lauren praised her. "Such a clever girl! Now, then, is there anything you need to have with you?" She looked over at the diaper bag. "We have plenty of diapers and spare outfits at the daycare, so you don't have to worry about that..."
"Umm..." Lizzie hesitated.
"Why don't we take a look?" Lauren offered, bending down.
"There!" Lizzie corrected herself quickly, pointing at her teddy bear. She couldn't have Lauren digging through the bag. She'd planted the camera, but there was a spare, too, in case anything happened to the first before she could put it where it needed to go, and if the tweener saw that, recognized what it was...
"Of course," Lauren smiled, plucking up the toy. "How could I be so silly?" She handed Lizzie the bear, the girl starting to cuddle it immediately, not even minding when she also grabbed the paci dangling from its leash on the front of Lizzie's onesie and popped it into her mouth. "Look at her!" she squealed. "What a little doll!"
Lizzie blushed as Lauren gave the seat of her diaper a pat. That was how she felt today, if she was being honest, going out dressed up like this, playing with Wendi - or, rather, letting Wendi play with her - acting the part as best she could... The one grown-up thing she'd done was hide her camera, and even that had come at the same time as she was disposing of her supposedly used diaper, so it hadn't felt as mature as it might normally.
"Can we go?" Wendi huffed, tugging at her worker's hand.
"All right, all right," the other daycare worker said, following along. "I promise, there will be plenty of toys for you to play with, Wendi. The other kids aren't going to take them all in the next two minutes."
"They'll take the good ones!" Wendi whined. "I want to show Lizzie the big dollhouse, and the big ring toys, and...!"
"Well, I think the first thing that's going to have to happen is for us to get a snack into her tummy," Lauren warned Wendi.
Lizzie stomach lurched. "I-I'm not hungry," she mumbled behind her pacifier. She didn't want to eat, or drink, anything while she was there... She knew all of that stuff was designed to keep their charges using their diapers as often and as thoroughly as possible. Hopefully she wouldn't be there long enough for it to go into effect, but that didn't mean she wanted to risk it...
"When was the last time you were changed?" Lauren asked, sliding her fingers past the legholes of the onesie, Lizzie realizing too late what she was doing, pursing her lips as she felt the dry padding underneath.
"It's been a while," Wendi told the girl.
"I-It hasn't been that long!" Lizzie contradicted, fidgeting in Lauren's arms, trying to make herself wet, a task that would have been difficult enough while she was surrounded by strangers, made even more-so as they stepped out of Luther's office. "F-Five minutes?"
"Five minutes," Lauren giggled. "Everything is five minutes to them, huh?" The other worker giggled back.
"No, it has!" Lizzie insisted, pouting. "I can tell time!"
"Oh, you can?" Lauren smirked, clearly just humoring her. "What a big girl! Big girls like you need lots of milk and snackies to keep them going, and I have a feeling you've been having too much fun playing with your friend to get as much of either as you should have!"
Lizzie closed her eyes, burying her face into her teddy bear's fur, doing her best to block out the sound of the office around her, to pretend she was in the bathroom. Her bladder was pretty full, since her last diaper change had been a decoy, and she hadn't actually used it. As much as she'd been peeing her pants lately, surely she could do it now, when she needed to, to prove that she wasn't dehydrated.
She groaned, hearing the chime of the elevator, feeling the whoosh as it started to take her downwards. She clung tighter to her plushy, biting down on her pacifier, desperate. Without opening her eyes, it was impossible to know how many people were there, around her in the elevator. It could be a lot, or it might be just the two daycare workers and their charges... She wanted to believe it was the latter, didn't dare check for fear it was the former.
But, thankfully, despite that possibility, after a long, tense second of nothing, she felt the padding beneath her begin to warm, a trickle escaping from her bladder, gradually speeding up, turning into a torrent. She sighed contentedly, nuzzling against her teddy, more happy than she'd have ever anticipated to be wetting her diaper.
"Here we go!" Lauren announced. Lizzie had been so lost in her own world, she wasn't certain what, exactly, the tweener meant, if they were getting off the elevator or entering the daycare. Her mind felt almost as fuzzy as the bear's fur in the moment, making it hard to remember for sure if she'd heard the elevator chime again, or if she was recalling the first one.
So it was a bit disorienting when she felt herself being plopped down onto her now squishy bottom, her eyes popping open to reveal a pastel wonderland all around her already. The walls were painted in soft, pleasing colors, the floors covered with cozy rugs, as well as plenty of the toys Wendi had promised, and been so excited about, and adult babies playing with them.
They were mostly littles, with a few tweeners scattered among them, some of them dressed surprisingly mature, distinguishable from the workers only by their lack of an apron, and a slight bulge beneath their pants. They were mostly sticking together in one corner, currently watching in bemusement as one of their own stood in front of a worker, face red.
"No, I didn't have an accident!" he was complaining, hands balled into fists. "You don't hafta check me!"
"But that's the only way I can know for sure," the worker told him patiently. "You know the rules... Once you're on your second strike, we have to check you every hour."
Wendi, as far as Lizzie could tell, was the only Amazon, though that was hardly a shock, and didn't appear to bother the woman at all. She was glad to toddle away, off to the largest of the dollhouses, happy to see that it was unoccupied. Lizzie was ready to follow her, to hop down from the chair she'd been put in, but as she turned from surveying her surroundings, a tray was slid into place in front of her with a click.
She gulped, feet dangling beneath her in what she realized now was, obviously, a high chair. "No!" she whined past her paci. "I'm not hungry!"
"Hold on just a second, sweetie!" Lauren told her, stepping away.
Lizzie shoved at the tray, unsurprised to discover it didn't so much as budge at her efforts. She kicked her feet in frustration, squirming in her soggy diaper. She'd used it specifically to avoid this! It wasn't fair!
She plucked her pacifier out of her mouth, looking around her desperately, searching for someone who might help her. If Wendi had stuck around, she might have, if only so she could play with her sooner... Other than her, though, who could she turn to? None of the littles were tall enough to undo the latch on the high chair, even if they were bold enough to risk being disciplined if they were caught doing so. The tweeners enrolled here might take pity on her and help... Or they might not, to prove to the workers that they could be one of them, or to prove to themselves that littles, indeed, deserved to be here, while they didn't.
"Let me out!" she squealed at a passing worker. They didn't seem likely to give her a hand, either, but she had to try something, and she was the first person to come near.
"Hi, there," the girl smiled at her. "Who are you? I don't think we've met."
Lizzie blinked, taken by surprise at the question. She'd expected to be asked what was wrong, why she needed help... Then again, she doubted she was the first fussy little who hadn't wanted to partake in snack-time. "I-I'm Lizzie," she answered. "A-And I'm not..."
"Lizzie?" the girl frowned. "Who do you belong to, Lizzie?"
Lizzie fidgeted, seeing Lauren step back into her view, carrying a bottle. "N-No!" she shook her head. "I-I'm not...!"
Lauren expertly slid the bottle's nipple into the protesting girl's mouth, Lizzie gasping as her words were drowned out by a flood of milk, thick and sweet and warm. Lizzie never drank milk on its own, but she was certain it didn't usually taste like this, that there had to be something in it... She groaned and squirmed, trying to pull away, Lauren keeping the bottle in its place, Lizzie's muffled words only making the liquid flow faster.
"She's Ms. Collins's new baby," Lauren told the other worker casually, having no problem doing that at the same time as she was feeding Lizzie, despite the little's best attempts at escaping from the milk.
"Oh!" the other worker's eyes lit up. "How exciting! I heard about you, cutie!" She reached out to tickle Lizzie's tummy, then paused. "Wait, didn't I hear that she was sick yesterday, and that's why she wasn't here?"
Lauren nodded. "You're right, I remember that now. I think she's feeling better today, though. Ms. Collins was letting her play with Wendi."
"Hmm," the other girl responded doubtfully, Lizzie unable to defend herself without gulping down more and more milk, and whatever else was in there with it. The longer she drank it, the more she thought she detected a slight grittiness to it, a weird thickness to its texture. Was it fiber? Were they trying to get her to mess her diaper again?! She couldn't let that happen!
She also, unfortunately, couldn't stop it, couldn't do anything to stop Lauren from making her drain every last drop from the bottle. At best, she could have attempted to spit it out, but it just would have dribbled down onto her onesie... Lauren had said they had plenty of spare outfits here, though Lizzie suspected she wasn't going to like any of those any more than the onesie, that they might be even more babyish, somehow. That, or they could decide to make her run around in only a diaper, as she saw a couple littles doing.
She didn't love the onesie; it was better than a lot of the alternatives she could dream up, however, and she'd rather not find out what the workers here would do. It was easier to force herself to swallow the milk and hope for the best. It may have been her imagination, yet she was almost certain she could feel her tummy bloating already, before she'd even finished, and as soon as the bottle was pulled away, she blushed as her body let out an involuntary belch.
"There, that's better, isn't it?" Lauren smiled. "Poor thirsty baby."
"I wasn't thirsty," Lizzie sulked.
"Uh-huh," Lauren nodded, leaning down to give Lizzie's diaper a pat under the tray. "Oh, good! That's better!"
"I was already wet," Lizzie grumbled, not wanting to give the girl the satisfaction of thinking the bottle had accomplished anything.
"So grumpy," Lauren teased, slipping Lizzie's pacifier back into her mouth again, this time giving it a twist, Lizzie's eyes widening as she felt it expand, silencing her. "Maybe you need a nap."
Lizzie pouted, though, in all honesty, she wasn't sure that was the worst thing. At least in the crib, nobody would bother her, and they probably wouldn't make her watch any cartoons... On the other hand, she didn't know how long it would be before Heather picked her up, and it might be awfully boring to be stuck in a crib the whole time.
Her opinion clearly didn't matter, however, as Lauren had demonstrated by inflating her paci. "Or maybe Kim is right. I guess the responsible thing to do would be to check before I let you play with the other kids, huh?"
Lizzie wasn't certain what she meant, but she was grateful to see the tray being removed, indicating that her snack-time was apparently over before she'd had to eat any oatmeal, or baby food, or anything like that. Lauren picked her up, carrying her across the daycare over to the changing tables, setting her down on one of them.
Lizzie was glad for that, too, having half expected her diaper to be deemed not wet enough for a change yet... She had, after all, insisted on a booster pad, and she'd only gone in this one once. Probably, she assumed, they were afraid of what would happen if they returned her to Heather with a diaper rash.
Or so she thought until she saw what Lauren produced from under the table. Lizzie gulped, eyes widening as she started to suck on her pacifier nervously, staring at the long, cold glass tube, having no illusions about where it was going to end up, especially with her mouth plugged up the way it was.
"All right, sweetie," Lauren cooed. "Let's make sure you really aren't sick today, okay?"
