The Hardest Thing - Chapter 4
🕑 Added 2023-07-08 12:00:10 +0000 UTC"Let me go!" Wonder Woman demanded, even though she knew that never worked; nor should it, really, she supposed. If a villain had told her to do the same, she wouldn't listen, so why should they return the favor?
"Oh, I'm afraid that just won't do," Doctor Poison shook their head, pursing their lipstick stained lips. Between those, and their long fingernails, Wonder Woman suspected they were a woman, but she had yet to get confirmation... Not even the other members of the League had been able to find out for sure, and the black leather parody of a doctor's coat they wore included a hood that covered their hair and obscured any other distinguishing features that might have given her a hint.
Wonder Woman thrashed against the straps holding her to the doctor's table, blood running cold at the sight of Doctor Poison reaching into her coat, extracting a pair of syringes. She didn't know what the straps were made of, how they were so strong... They looked like a normal set of cuffs, wrapped around her ankles and wrists, like what would be used against any unruly patient, yet she ought to be able to break through those, no problem, and it simply wasn't happening now, no matter what she did.
"What kind of a doctor would I be, to let you go out into the world and continue with this delusion?" Doctor Poison asked. "If you keep running around, pretending to be a superhero, you're going to get hurt! Or, perhaps, you'll hurt somebody else, though that seems unlikely, doesn't it? As weak and pathetic as you are?"
Wonder Woman gritted her teeth, glaring up at Doctor Poison. "Unlock these cuffs and we'll see how weak I am!"
Doctor Poison chuckled. To be fair, Wonder Woman had been feeling a bit off since she'd arrived, and been hit in the face with a blast of some sort of green gas, inhaling a lungful before she could react. She'd stopped for a moment, considered coming back another day - but the villain would surely know she'd track them down and move lairs - or calling for backup... It was her fault for not doing either, for stubbornly going forward, hoping for the best.
"I will, I will," Doctor Poison promised. "Just as soon as I run a little test." She pressed the plungers on the syringes, getting out all of the air, along with a tiny squirt of whatever liquid was in each.
"Wh-What are you going to do?!" Wonder Woman blushed, hearing her voice crack. She didn't like showing fear, especially to the likes of Doctor Poison, but she couldn't help it... She really was terrified, helpless in a way she almost never was, completely at their mercy. She was scared... And, if she was being totally honest, a touch turned on as well. She'd never have admitted it to the villain, of course, or even to her teammates in the League as locker room talk. This was such a rare thing, however, being as overpowered as this, being genuinely uncertain of what was going to happen...
Perhaps that was all it was, she reasoned. Excitement, of a sort, at the unfamiliarity of her situation, at facing a threat that she couldn't simply punch her way out of. Then again, while it might do so for the pounding of her heart, that hardly explained away the stickiness in her underpants, or the heat building up underneath.
"If I knew that, it wouldn't be a test, would it?" Doctor Poison smirked, licking their lips. "You see, this is a version of the Reverso drug my grandmother, the first Doctor Poison, developed... And that, sadly, killed her. It was meant to reverse aging, but it worked too well, taking her all the way back into babyhood... And then nothingness. I think I've isolated the problem, however, and you have the privilege of assisting me with discovering if I'm right or not. If this goes according to plan, you'll stop once you become a baby, and stay there... Forever."
Wonder Woman shook her head. "N-No, you can't do that!" she squealed. Blinking out of existence, obviously, was no good, though in its own way, becoming a baby, permanently as helpless - if not more-so - than she was now, was almost worse, in its own way. She imagined herself, tiny and chubby, swaddled in a bulky diaper, toddling up to Cheetah and giving her leg a shove, the grown woman barely even noticing before peering down at the regressed Wonder Woman, picking her up, shoving a pacifier into her mouth, plopping her down in a crib, utterly nullifying the power of her former nemesis as easily as that...
And that was assuming Wonder Woman wound up old enough to walk, which, she realized after shaking her head free of that last image, wasn't guaranteed. She could be so young, she couldn't stand, couldn't even lift her head... It would be like now, on the table, but with no restraints required. All she could do was lie there, squirming and whining, using her diapers...
"I might not," Doctor Poison shrugged, and, despite the fear of those possible fates, despite how much she knew she couldn't let those happen, Wonder Woman did feel a pang of disappointment. "I haven't tested it at all... It's hard to say what those alterations will do. The first version of my grandmother's drug left victims in a state of permanent confusion, so perhaps it will be that. Or it might erase your memories, make you forget that you are Wonder Woman at all, or how to use your powers. Less impressive, I know, but there's a nice psychiatric hospital I could drop you off at. They'd take very good care of you, and I'd love to see you wandering around in a straightjacket and diapers, like the other patients..."
Wonder Woman's cheeks darkened as she heard a sound escape her lips, one that sounded far more like a moan than she would have preferred. From the expression on Doctor Poison's face, they noticed, too, leaning over the table, grinning down at the captured superhero beneath them. "Either way, you are going to be in diapers for a long time, Wonder Woman... What do you think of that?"
It wasn't something she'd ever thought of, would have dreamed of fantasizing about; right now, however, she couldn't deny how powerful that thought was. It was so incredibly humiliating, such a symbol of her imminent loss of might... She shook her head again, trying to control herself, to remind herself of the gravity of the situation. It had been so very long since she'd been bested, though, and as far as she knew, Doctor Poison didn't even have any actual powers...
"I think that's what you want, isn't it?" Doctor Poison purred, breaking through Wonder Woman's thoughts, reading her like a book.
"Wh-What?! O-Of course not!" Wonder Woman whimpered, certain she wasn't convincing anyone with her words, not even herself. "Wh-Why would I want..?!" She gasped as her skirt was lifted up, revealing her underwear, glistening wetly. "Th-That doesn't mean..." she blushed harder than she could remember ever blushing before, watching Doctor Poison slide one of the syringes back into its holster before running a finger across Wonder Woman's undies.
"Disgusting," they sneered, rubbing their finger on Wonder Woman's exposed thigh. "You know, I hate to give you what you want... And I almost think it would be better to make you tell the world about your perverted little desires..."
"N-No, I don't...!" Wonder Woman's stomach churned, imagining calling a press conference, standing next to Superman and Batman, everyone assuming she had some huge announcement to make, only to confess that what she really wanted was for some villain to defeat her, to diaper her up like a dumb little baby...
"But I need to run my tests," Doctor Poison interrupted her. "I suppose I'll have to be satisfied knowing that you'll be stuck with the results long after your... excitement... for them has worn off."
Wonder Woman's eyes widened as she felt the pinch of a needle sinking into her flesh, followed by another. This was about to be real now, she thought... As soon as Doctor Poison pressed those plungers, her life as a superhero, as a respected adult, was over... If Doctor Poison was right, this was a one-way trip back to diapers, and she ought to be taking it seriously, doing anything she possibly could to stop it, but instead, mortifyingly, she could feel herself edging closer and closer to orgasm as she whispered, "Do it..."
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
"No!" Diana turned away, face burning almost as red as the version of her on the other side of the window, though - she hoped - for a different reason. "Turn it off!"
"It's not a television," Cassandra rolled her eyes. "It isn't as simple as..."
"I don't want to see!" Diana whined, only growing more embarrassed at the way her voice sounded, how desperate and pleading she was... Not so far off from what they'd just heard from the other dimension.
Silver Sorceress and Cassandra shared a look, and a shrug, and the window closed, condensing into a point of light. Despite what she'd said, Diana couldn't help watching it, seeing Doctor Poison begin to inject the drugs into the other Wonder Woman, the hero gasping, moaning in a way that didn't sound like it was from pain...
Diana had recognized that look on the other her's face, and she had to assume Batgirl had as well; she'd held out hope, as long as she could, that it would stay at that, that neither of them would mention it, or that Cassandra would have enough doubt for her to not say anything, not jump to conclusions, but, apparently, it had been just as obvious in person.
"So," Cassandra spoke up after a long moment of silence, "are you convinced now?"
Diana shifted in her seat uncomfortably, feeling the eyes of the other two heroes on her. Did they think she was reacting similarly to the Wonder Woman they'd just been observing? She wrapped her arms around herself, cheeks continuing to warm up. "I-It is a weird coincidence," she had to admit.
"You have no idea," Cassandra added. "If I told you about the first world I looked at..."
"I don't want to know!" Diana glared at her, although as soon as the words were out of her mouth, she realized it was a lie. What part of it had made Cassandra say that?!
"Listen," Silver Sorceress said, "if there's anything you need to tell us..."
"No!" Diana snapped. "Of course there isn't! You don't think I wear...!" She shook her head, unable to finish the sentence, to say the word.
"Well, maybe not now," Cassandra told her. "But eventually, it seems inevitable."
"No, it isn't!" Diana insisted. "I would never let that happen!"
Cassandra shrugged blithely. "I'd guess that's what the other versions of you thought, too, for the most part."
"Not for me," Diana shook her head.
"It doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing," Silver Sorceress interjected diplomatically. "We felt like you needed to know, though, so you could..."
"Not in that first one, either!" Diana interrupted. "The one you showed me before. That was a mistake! It wasn't me... her... it was that other person near her!"
"Come on," Batgirl sighed impatiently. "Even with that one, and you, that's only two!"
"Two is a lot more than zero," Diana huffed. "That proves you aren't right. Just because it happens to a lot..."
"A majority," Cassandra corrected. "A vast, vast majority."
"A majority isn't all of them!" Wonder Woman fumed. "We fight against impossible odds all the time, it's what superheroes do."
"99.99%," Cassandra reminded her. "And, to be honest, I stopped there to be nice. There were a few more nines tacked on the end, if we want to be accurate, and that .00001% is probably an anomaly."
"Or it's me," Diana declared, arms folded. "Me and that other version we saw."
"More likely it's dimensions where diapers aren't a thing, or everything is underwater so the biology is completely different, or where you don't exist for some reason, or..." Batgirl rattled off.
"Or you're wrong," Diana said haughtily. "I've had enough of this."
She stormed out angrily, although, after everything she'd seen, and been told, she couldn't help worrying that it would come off as a tantrum more than anything. She did her best to forget about it, to push it out of her mind, but it kept creeping back into her mind at the most inopportune times... Especially that first dimension she'd seen, and the look in the other her's eyes.
Finally, after a few days, she returned to Cassandra. "I still don't buy it," she started off. "But I want to make sure you know it isn't true, either."
"And how, exactly, are you going to do that?" Batgirl smirking. "Proving a negative isn't impossible, technically. It is incredibly difficult, however, and when you're dealing with the multiverse, that only complicates things further. We might find another version of you who isn't... you know... but what if they had been before, and escaped? Or what if it happens after we peek through the window?"
"If it's only temporary, what does it matter?" Diana asked.
Cassandra snickered. "Oh, so you're fine with it if it's only for a little while?"
"That's not what I meant!" Diana blushed. "I-I don't see why that would be of concern to you, or the rest of the League, though. Things happen in battle, and everyone suffers some temporary defeats from time to time..."
"If they happen the same way every time, that is concerning," Batgirl said. "And most of the time, it hasn't seemed temporary to me..."
Diana was beginning to get frustrated again, yet she knew she couldn't let it get to her. "Can you at least give me a chance?" she requested. "I just... I want to see for myself."
Cassandra hesitated. "We have a lot of other League members we'd like to research, too."
Diana knew that was true, that hogging their operation was selfish; she'd already thought of a response for that argument, however, because of that, because she'd debated so hard with herself over whether she should do this or not. "If your analysis is wrong about me, then how can we trust it about anyone else? Maybe the other versions of ourselves are more different than you assume, and all of this is pointless."
Batgirl appeared a bit offended by that, and taken aback, but after a moment, she nodded. "You're not wrong," she admitted. "This is the most dramatic example we've been able to find, so if it isn't accurate, I suppose we can't trust this method when it comes to smaller ones, either."
"Some things are just coincidence," Wonder Woman pointed out.
"And others are fate," Batgirl countered. "We might as well see if we can deduce which this is."
There were countless other worlds, ones none of them had seen that would have made more sense to start with. Diana couldn't help herself, though. "Do you still know the... address, or whatever... for that first one you showed me?"
Batgirl and Silver Sorceress exchanged a look. "I could call it back up," the latter replied after a second or two.
"You aren't going to prove anything going back to the same one," Cassandra told her.
"I know," Wonder Woman said. If anything, she worried it might do the opposite. "I'd just like to check in."
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
"Wonder Woman!"
Diana snapped back to reality just in time to dodge a punch, returning it in kind, knocking Metallo back a step, putting him off balance. Seeing her opportunity, Diana pressed the assault, shutting the protective barrier over the cyborg's chest, shielding the kryptonite heart that powered him, giving Superman a chance to get back to his feet, recover while Wonder Woman kept the villain busy, ensuring he had no chance to open the chamber again. Between the two of them, they made short work of him, as had, of course, been Superman's plan when asking for her help.
"What happened out there?" he asked afterwards.
Diana shook her head, blushed. "It was nothing," she lied, pointless as she knew it was with him. "I just have something on my mind. I'm sorry, I won't let it distract me while I'm in the middle of a fight again. I know better."
"I'm not trying to scold you," he told her gently. "If I can help you with it, though... I do owe you one now."
She turned her head, hoping he wouldn't notice - or at least mention - her face growing warmer, redder, thinking of him doing that. "You would have been fine on your own," Diana said. "And so will I. But thank you."
Later that evening, however, after changing into her civilian clothes and going for a walk, she finally found them. She hadn't realized, at first, why she was doing it, why she kept stopping in every drugstore she passed, strolling through all the aisles. She'd thought she was just restless, or waiting to be certain nobody tried to come in and rob the place. It wasn't her fault that they all had adult diaper sections, or that those always seemed to be the last aisle she made it to, or that, every time she did, she thought of that strange encounter in the hallway of her apartment building...
Those excuses sounded less and less convincing, and now, they crumbled away entirely. Her heart began to thump in her chest when she saw them, sitting on the shelf, closing her eyes for a moment to replay that memory for the thousandth time, confirming what she already knew.
Those diapers, sitting in that package, waiting on the shelf, were the same ones that young woman had been wearing as she walked down the hallway, Diana's neighbor watching from her doorway with an attitude that left no doubt she was behind it. Diana knew heroes, and villains, who most people would consider literal gods, and none of them had exuded as much of an aura of power as this woman; it had made Diana herself a little weak in the knees to witness it, even from afar.
She had no use for diapers, obviously. There was no reason for her to buy these, to have them in her apartment... She would never, in a million years, wear them... And yet...
She bit her bottom lip, glancing towards the front of the store. The self-checkout was empty right now... She could grab them, get there, pay for them, double - or triple - bag them to carry them home, and nobody would ever be the wiser. Nobody would ever have to know that Diana Prince was buying diapers. Or, even worse, that Wonder Woman was.
Then again, even if somebody did notice, and knew who she was, who would ever believe them? It was so absurd... She didn't need them, probably wouldn't so much as open them. It was a waste to buy them at all... But she couldn't help herself. Why not? she wondered to herself. What harm could it possibly do?
