Running the Asylum

It wasn't until the owner of the daycare, Morgana, had mentioned something about it that Ava had begun to worry.
"I almost forgot you started right afterwards last year," Morgana said. "Your work anniversary popped up on my Google calendar and reminded me that I probably ought to give you a heads up."
Ava frowned, shifting her weight apprehensively. "A heads up about what?" she asked, a pit forming in her stomach, a dread certainty filling her head.
"We have a little tradition around here," Morgana told her. "A lot of our clients aren't huge fans of fireworks, or their Mommies or Daddies don't try them to stay out late enough to see them, or to not try to sneak any adult beverages if they bring them along to cookouts or whatnot, which is why we stay open."
Ava shrugged; she wasn't scared of them, the way she assumed their charges were, but she could do without fireworks, too, and when she'd seen what the holiday pay was, she'd been more than happy to volunteer to work on Independence Day. "Yeah," she replied, wondering if, somehow, Morgana had forgotten that she had already said she would be there. "I know."
"Oh, you do?" Morgana chuckled. "I should have known the others would have warned you. I'm glad you're being a good sport about it!"
"I don't mind," Ava assured her, telling herself that Morgana had simply thought Ava hadn't noticed that Tuesday was a holiday, that she was praising her for being a team player, for agreeing to work then, even though, as the newest staff member, she probably would have wound up having to go in anyway, if nobody else had offered.
Still, as the day drew closer, Ava couldn't help fretting that she should have asked more questions, confirmed that she was right about her assumptions. After all, Morgana wasn't going to be there that day to clear anything up... In fact, since there would only be a couple clients, Ava was going to be there on her own, looking after them.
She could have gone back to her boss's office, or seen what the other workers had to say about it, but it was all so ridiculous, she was afraid they'd make fun of her for not immediately seeing through it, dismissing it, having to ask, even in a joking manner.
When the day arrived, however, and her first charge, Phoebe, showed up, she started to have second thoughts. "Wow," Ava commented as the young woman strutted in, wearing a low cut dress that showed off her cleavage far better than the onesies she was usually in. "Somebody's fancy today!"
"You're a braver woman than me," Phoebe's Mommy said with a smile. "Good luck today!"
"Wait, what do you mean good luck?" Ava pursed her lips. "I'm not... Hey, what are you doing over there, Phoebe?" She saw the girl standing at one of the changing tables, pawing through the wide variety of diapers they kept on hand, pulling one out after a moment, opening it up on the table. "Do you need a change already? You're never going to get your big girl panties back at this rate!" Of course, that was exactly what Phoebe's Mommy wanted... She had confided in Ava that she'd thrown all of those out ages ago, other than one pair that she used to tease the girl, make her think she had a shot of winning them back.
"No," Phoebe stuck her tongue out at her, lifting the skirt of her dress. "I'm not wearing diapers today!"
Ava turned back towards Phoebe's Mommy, curious if she knew about this, if she was going to scold the girl. "Your chart lately has been abysmal, young lady," she said herself when she saw the other actual adult here was gone. "You don't... Hey!"
She watched as Phoebe grabbed a marker, marching over to her potty training chart and marking through her own name on her chart, scrawling 'Ava' in its place. "No," she smirked. "I think you're the one who's failing her potty training! And it doesn't look like you're wearing the proper padding under those shorts, so you'd better march your little butt over to the changing table right now if you know what's good for you!"
"Phoebe!" Ava barked, shocked at the normally timid girl's audacity. "You know you aren't allowed to touch that marker, or your chart! You are about to be in a world of hurt, you...! Ow!"
In her day to day work, it was easy to forget that her charges weren't actual babies; by the time they were enrolled at the daycare, their Mommies or Daddies had diaper disciplined most of the fight out of them, had left them as little more than oversized toddlers. It didn't matter that Ava was no taller than pretty much any of them, and, in fact, shorter than quite a few - including Phoebe. Morgana liked that, thought it emphasized their new powerlessness.
In this case, however, she was given a harsh reminder of the reality of it all as Phoebe's hand closed tightly around her wrist, yanking her towards the changing table. Ava's heart pounded, eyes widening, as she saw the diaper spread open, waiting... Not for Phoebe, she realized with a jolt, but for her. "Phoebe, stop it!" she demanded, hating how much her panic made it sound like a whine instead.
But Phoebe didn't stop, not until they were at the changing table, where she spun Ava around, pushing her against the edge of it. Ava gulped, eyes darting over, looking at the diaper close up, palms beginning to sweat as Ava unbuttoned her shorts, yanked them down. "Naughty, naughty girl!" she shook her head. "Not even in trainers!"
"I don't need trainers!" Ava squeaked, the whole situation only made worse as Phoebe leaned in closer and Ava got a whiff of the baby powder scent so prevalent on her, as somebody so immature that was the only perfume she was allowed.
"That's not what your chart says!" Phoebe told her in a sing-songy voice.
"It's not my chart!" Ava stomped her foot, then squealed as Phoebe yanked down her panties, then pushed her back onto the table, her bare bottom landing squarely on the thick, poofy diaper. Ava had never once been scared working here, had never minded, even on the few occasions when she was left alone with quite a few of their students while the other workers set up a surprise for them, or cleaned up a mess in another room... Now, with only one, she was petrified.
So much so that she heard the sound of trickling, didn't make the connection to what it was until she saw Phoebe peer down and smirk. Nervously, Ava did the same, tummy lurching as she saw the small, yellow puddle soaking into the diaper she was sitting on. "Phoebe!" she did her best to sound assertive, like she was the one in charge, despite what she'd done. "St-Stop this right now!"
Phoebe giggled. "No," she replied defiantly. "Especially not when you just proved how much you need to be in these."
She shoved Ava onto her back, and, with the puff of powder and the sound of tapes ripping open, the girl was snugly secured into her diaper... A diaper that was already damp, as both of them were aware, even if the accident had been so tiny it wasn't obvious from outside. That almost made it worse, in a way, as she sat up, dazed, and squirmed on the changing table, watching as another of her charges, Xavier, walked in, also very clearly not diapered under his shorts.
He saw her, grinned, bounding over, and she wiggled backwards, pressing her thighs together, terrified he'd check her, discover her sogginess, as the motion made her so much more aware of it. "Miss Ava!" he beamed. "I'm so glad it's you today!"
"I have her first!" Phoebe glared at him.
"You've already gotten to play!" he pouted, pointing at the diaper.
"Well, I'm not finished," Phoebe huffed. "I need to pick out a good outfit for her."
Ava wasn't sure what to do; she'd been shown how easily Phoebe could overpower her, and now there were two of them, making it that much more unlikely she could wrest back control. Should she try to call Morgana, tell her what was going on?! Or had the kids been telling her the truth all along... Considering neither Phoebe nor Xavier had been brought in wearing diapers, she had to assume at least part of it was, that, indeed, on Independence Day, the babies got to run the daycare, turn the tables on their caretakers, for that one day only...
That would certainly explain why nobody else had volunteered to work, to get that holiday pay, why Morgana had thanked her for being a good sport about it... If it was true, calling Morgana would mean admitting she hadn't known after all, that she hadn't been prepared in the slightest for this... And that, probably, there wasn't much that she was going to do to help.
"Well, hurry up," Xavier told Phoebe, Ava gulping as she watched him kneel down, start looking at the collection of suppositories and mini-enemas on one of the shelves of the changing table. "I have a little score to settle with her..."
There was no doubt in Ava's mind what that was about... It was the same reason she'd been shocked to see a lack of significant padding under his shorts. Xavier was a sweet boy, one who almost never misbehaved... He also rarely had accidents, unlike most of the other students here, so he was mostly kept in Pull-Ups purely because that was what his Daddy wanted. Not that long ago, however, his Daddy had decided it was time for him to graduate to diapers, and it had fallen to Ava to help that along.
The first time, he genuinely hadn't seemed to know what was happening, to make the connection between the 'slip' of her finger into his bottom as she checked him for any signs of wetness and the mess he made not long afterwards, but eventually, as it started to happen more and more, he put it all together... By then, though, it was far too late.
"It's not my fault!" she insisted, legs swinging anxiously beneath her.
"That's what I said," he reminded her, not bothering - or having - to continue, to point out how that had gone for him.
"Here we go!" Phoebe declared, returned from the closet with a tiny, colorful dress, trimmed with lace, and clearly far too short to hide Ava's diaper. "You're going to look so cute in this!"
Ava let out a squeak of protest, but it was quickly quelled by another glance at Xavier. Better Phoebe than him, she thought, even after the girl yanked her shirt and bra off, leaving her topless, in just her diaper for a moment or two in front of her two charges before she put the dress on her, then happily braided her hair into a pair of pigtails, tying them with ribbons.
Ava wrinkled her nose, looking at her reflection in the mirror, knowing that if any stranger walked in now, it would be impossible to convince them that she was the one in charge here, that she was the 'adult,' that she was the only one who didn't regularly wear diapers... Especially considering the one she was in now was damp, and rapidly cooling. Still, she'd gladly let Phoebe play dress-up with her all she wanted if it kept Xavier away.
Or so she thought. "There we go!" Phoebe smiled proudly. "Much better! Now, since you didn't show up in a diaper like you should have, young lady, I think you need a spanking!"
"Phoebe," Ava rolled her eyes. "You can't..." But Phoebe dragged Ava off the changing table, plopping herself down on the floor and pulling the squirming caretaker over her lap. "Ph-Phoebe?"
Phoebe pushed Ava's diaper down, exposing her pale, quivering bottom. "There's no point doing it if you aren't going to feel it," Phoebe smirked, parroting back something Phoebe had told her before punishments many times, her hand rubbing circles on the woman's bare backside for a few moments, then suddenly, without warning, rearing back, slapping down hard.
"Ouch!" Ava yelped, tears springing to her eyes. She'd hoped nobody would notice, but she heard Phoebe gasp, then, after the initial shock, giggle.
"Ava! Are you seriously crying already?! What a baby!" she mocked.
"N-No, I'm not!" Ava wailed, voice quavering, cracking.
"Yes, you are!" Ava cringed, hearing the voice of Molly, one of the few students who was actually smaller than Ava. She sniffled, glancing up, seeing the girl skipping in, not looking much different from Ava, having apparently not bothered to take advantage of the opportunity to go without diapers, or dress a bit more maturely... Or, perhaps, her Mommy hadn't had any Pull-Ups around for her, since she'd been in diapers full-time since Ava had started working here. Ava could see now how effective Morgana's decision to hire her was, how humiliating it was having somebody so small, so childish, laugh at her, loudly announcing, "Ava's a baby!"
"No, I'm not!" Ava repeated, kicking her feet uselessly for a moment or two, until Phoebe's next spank had her bawling, proving herself wrong.
By the time the spanking was over, Ava meekly allowed herself to be handed over to Xavier, quietly - almost gratefully - accepting the pacifier he pushed into her mouth, feeling herself start to nurse it automatically, surprised at how soothing it actually was. She couldn't even muster a protest, beyond a weak, token one that her pacifier muffled nearly entirely, when he declared it was time for a wardrobe change, whisking off her dress, tossing it aside, giving her only a pair of ruffle-bottomed tights in return. She crossed her arms over her bare chest, sucking her paci, as he held up an extra-strength mini-enema.
"All right, Ava," he told her. "If you can hold this for fifteen minutes, maybe you can try Pull-Ups again, okay?"
She whimpered, knowing she'd done the same thing to him, after he'd called her out for 'cheating' to make him mess his pants, knowing that there was no way he - or, now, she - would be able to make it that long... But what could she do? She wasn't in charge today, as had been so thoroughly demonstrated to her. "I-I don't wanna..." she sniffed.
"You don't wanna try Pull-Ups?" he asked. "Do you want me to tell Ms. Morgana that you want to stay in diapers forever?" She shook her head vehemently, never wanting the woman to hear those words about her, ever. "Then let's see how you do!" He turned her around, bending her over the changing table, his hand sliding over the seat of her diaper. "Wait... Did you have an accident already?"
"No!" Ava hid her face in shame as he poked at the wet spot, invited the girls over to do the same, Phoebe happily informing them of how it had happened, then, after checking her, saying that she was pretty sure it was bigger now. "Nuh-uh!" Ava whined.
"Well, it's definitely about to be," Xavier told her, pulling down her diaper and tights, and, before she could do anything, slipping the mini-enema into her bottom, giving it a squeeze. As soon as Ava felt the liquid squirting into her, she knew it was over, her head spinning in preemptive shame as Xavier tugged her diaper back into place, giving it a pat, then leading her over to the playpen.
Why had she agreed to come in today?! Why hadn't she believed the students when they'd told her about this?! She groaned, tummy roiling, watching the clock anxiously, the seconds ticking by so slowly... It was barely five minutes before the mounting pressure was too much for her and she found herself helplessly grunting and pushing, bottom in the air as her diaper filled with warm, squishy mush.
"Guess it's diapers for you," Xavier smirked. "All right, Molly, you can play with her now."
"Eww!" Molly pouted. "She's stinky! I don't wanna deal with that!"
So, instead, she put Ava into a sleeper, took her over to one of the cribs, and left her there. Ava was defeated, spanked, wearing a full diaper, and too humiliated to do anything other than suck her paci and play with the plushies in the crib with her, didn't dare attempt to climb out... So that was exactly where she was when Morgana came to check on how things were going.
"I've come back to some... interesting... scenes on July 4th before," she chuckled, "but none quite like this."
"That's because she's a baby!" Phoebe said. "Watch the security videos! She's a way bigger baby than any of us!"
"Yeah!" Molly agreed, Ava blushing to have her, particularly, saying such a thing.
"I-I was just being a good sport," Ava stammered, pulling the paci out of her mouth, hoping Morgana didn't notice how wet it was.
Morgana's nose twitched, her eyes scanning the room before landing on Ava. "That isn't you, is it?" Ava shrank back, unable to bring herself to answer. "I think maybe I should have a look at those videos..."
"I-I can explain!" Ava told her frantically, but, when Morgana returned from her office, and asked her to do exactly that, there wasn't much she could say, other than a lame, "I-I thought this is what I was supposed to do."
"Within reason," Morgana scolded. "It's meant to be a fun little game for them, to make them think they're getting to be independent one day a year... You're still supposed to be in charge, though! How do you think they're ever going to be able to go back to respecting you as a caregiver after this, young lady?!"
Ava didn't have an answer for that... And, as it turned out, she didn't need to, because she was no longer a caregiver after that. By the next morning, she was officially a student herself, stuck toddling around with the other adult babies, listening as Phoebe, Molly, and Xavier bragged to the others about what they'd done, how they'd transformed one of their least favorite caretakers into the entire daycare's baby sister, one they could all tease and check and play with however, and whenever, they wanted.
