Last of The Fae Chapter 138: British Ministry of Magic Auror Department Pt. 2
🕑 Added 2025-03-20 00:43:34 +0000 UTC"Should have never taken that damn bet," Steve muttered under his breath, sitting behind the front desk bored out of his mind. So far his day had consisted of logging all the paperwork for all of his fellow officers. A punishment that only the most sadistic mind could come up with.
"Damn you Jenkins, I should have known that drunk bastard could drink his weight in butterbeer," Steve cursed his college as he reached inside his robes and pulled out a small red vial that he took a swig from, holding back the pounding headache from last night's activities.
That was the one saving grace of his punishment. Banished to the archive room surrounded by filing shelves, Steve could lick his wounds in relative silence free from the normal chaos of the bullpen.
Steve sighed as the healing potion took effect, 'Say what you want about the kid, but anyone who can make a health potion cheap enough to buy for a hangover is a godsend.'
Checking the clock on the wall Steve groaned when he saw how much of the workday was left, 'Screw this I'm taking a nap, no one's going to be filing papers at this time of day.'
Sagging into the chair that was about as comfortable as a rock Steve's eyes quickly drifted shut, 'Hm maybe desk duty isn't so bad.'
"Hey, Steve!"
Steve jolted upright his eyes shooting open as he looked up and saw a familiar face, "J-jerry, what the hell are you doing here? I thought you got assigned to the Dementor handling security detail."
Jerry coughed into his hand and glanced away, "Y-yeah, there was an accident, the damn things got out of control never seen anything like it."
"Out of control?!" Steve asked in disbelief, "What do you mean out of control?!"
"I don't know," Jerry replied helplessly, "The train stopped like scheduled and I sent a couple of them to search the train in case Black tried sneaking on board."
"Then what happened?" Steve asked urging Jerry to continue.
"All of them started screaming like banshees and swarmed the train! Never seen anything like it." Jerry explained while shaking his head in disbelief.
"Well clearly you got the situation under control otherwise you would be getting your ass chewed out by Bones," Steve muttered, "Was anyone hurt?"
Jerry grunted, "No, but that's just the thing. When I got on the train, all the Dementors were gone, scattered to the fucking wind."
"Gone?" Steve repeated in disbelief, "If they were half as crazy as you said they were that means something got them relied up. And you know there's only one thing that makes a frenzied dementor piss off."
"Yeah but that's not possible," Jerry muttered almost to himself as if reviewing something in his mind, "There's no way that kid is strong enough to cast a patronus charm that powerful."
"W-wait a minute did you just say kid?" Steve asked tapping his desk for emphasis, "A kid claimed that he was the one who scared off the dementors?"
"He said he handled it, but was all cocky when he said it and wouldn't give me a straight answer. Probably some noble brat who thinks that Daddy is going to bail him out." Jerry muttered, "For all I know he did something to agitate the dementors in the first place...so I arrested him for obstruction and got him in holding right now."
Steve shook his head and exhaled through his nose, "What the hell is wrong with this generation? In our day, all we did was the harmless charm or bewitchment here or there. Now kids gotta cause mass havoc to get their kicks off."
Jerry sighed in agreement, "Damn shame."
Steve held out his hand, "Here I'll take care of that file for you, I bet you got enough on your plate."
"We've recovered most of the dementors, but a few are still roaming won't be long before they realize that they're in the middle of nowhere and come gliding back," Jerry commented absently mindedly as he handed over the file, "Though some of the kids on the train were pretty shaken up. All those dementors in one place isn't good for anyone much less children."
Steve grunted in agreement while flipping over the file quickly scanning its contents to make sure there weren't any glaring errors before freezing as he saw the name listed under person detained, "H-hey Jerry quick question, are you absolutely sure that you got the kid's name right?"
Jerry paused already half turned to leave, "Yeah I'm pretty sure I got the name right."
"Alright, second question...do you live under a damn rock?!" Steve shouted as he felt a pit open up underneath him already regretting having taken a look inside.
"Steve, what the hell has gotten into you?" Jerry asked staring at his at his fellow auror as if he had gone insane.
A deep groan croaked from Steve's mouth as he felt his headache return at full force, "Bones is going to have our badges for this."
Jerry frowned, his confusion only deepening as he crossed his arms. “Alright, spill it, Steve. What the hell are you freaking out about?”
Steve exhaled sharply, rubbing his temples with both hands before slamming the file down on his desk with a thud.
“Jerry,” he said slowly, as if trying to reason with a particularly dense child, “you didn’t just arrest some ‘noble brat.’ You arrested Thane Fae.”
Jerry blinked.
Then he blinked again.
“…Who?”
Steve let out a strangled noise that sounded somewhere between a groan and a laugh. “Are you shitting me? You really don’t know who he is?”
Jerry shrugged. “Kid had a bit of an attitude, but I didn’t recognize him. He one of those old pureblood families?”
Steve buried his face in his hands. “No, you absolute moron. He’s the Thane Fae. The kid who single-handedly killed an ancient basilisk in his second year then severed it as a entree at his engagement party to a fucking Greengrass. The same kid who runs Fae Inc., the fastest-growing magical company in the Isle. The same kid whose personal testimony changed one of the oldest magical laws his first year in Wizengamot."
Jerry stiffened, his mouth slightly open in realization. “…You’re bullshitting me.”
"YOU THINK I'M JOKING!!" Steve roared as he stood up slamming the desk, "You better start taking this seriously or you will end up clearing your desk out."
Jerry grabbed at his own face, groaning as he suddenly realized that Steve wasn't pulling a fast one on him. "Merlin’s balls, how the hell was I supposed to know?! He didn’t act like some rich genius entrepreneur! He was just a smug little shit with a smart mouth!"
Steve sighed heavily and threw his hands up. "All smart, rich people are smug little shits, Jerry! That’s part of the package!"
"A-alright...so what do we do now?"
Steve ran a hand through his hair with a groan, "We go tell the captain and hope by the end of this we still have jobs."
---
Fudge paused mid-bite up as someone knocked on his door, "Not right now Martha I'm having lunch!"
"It's me Cornelius, now put down the damn chocolate! We have a serious situation on our hands."
Fudge frowned as Madam Bones' muffled voice came through the door, "Come in."
The moment the words left Fudge's mouth Madam Bones stormed in.
"Seriously Susan what can be so important that-"
"Thane Fae's been arrested."
