Last of The Fae Chapter 136: Soul Train
🕑 Added 2025-03-16 22:38:33 +0000 UTCThane sighed as he felt the train lurch into motion beneath him, "And so begins another year of pointless lectures and constant oversight. There are much better uses of my time."
"What do you mean better uses? You practically worked straight through the summer," Rose muttered resting her head on Thane's lap who gently stroked her glossy black hair, "The school year should be like a vacation for you."
"I was looking forward to going to school as well," Luna mumbled dejectedly as she stared out the window watching the rainy scenery pass by, "The snagglewarfs were supposed to make their migration north this year through the Forbidden Forest, but I know they won't come anywhere near the school with the dementors around.
"Well if the natural migration of a magical creature is being diverted then as a Conservationist group it's Fae Inc.'s responsibility to investigate and ensure that the population isn't harmed," Thane replied with a knowing smile as Luna whirled around suddenly beaming bright enough to rival the sun.
"You would do that, for me?!"
Thane leaned over and pressed a kiss against Luna's lips who giggled like a school girl with her first crush, "There is very little I wouldn't do for you."
"Yeah especially since, Luna tends to return the favor with even more enthusiasm," Rose snickered sarcastically, "I can't count how many times I walked in on her under your desk trying to drain the life out of you."
Luna continued to smile completely unashamed as she replied, "Probably just as many times as I walked in on you practically passed out and panting as Thane fucked you from behind."
Rose froze before turning bright red as she shot up off of Thane's lap, "L-Luna I told you not to bring that up!!"
"Both of you calm yourselves," Daphne chided sitting across from the three of them with a slim book in one hand, "And what did I say about shaming each other about preferences."
"That it's completely fine I love the feeling of Thane's cock rammed down my throat and it's fine that Rose likes it when she gets taken from behind and filled up like a cream pie," Luna replied without missing a beat and Rose's already flustered face turned bright red and Thane could practically see the steam pouring out of her ears.
Daphne sighed though a slight smile decorated her face, "Yes, though I didn't put it in that much detail."
Thane let out a light-hearted laugh as he pulled Rose back down to rest on his lap and started to stroke her hair once more which quickly calmed down the flustered girl, "Well we still are in a public place so perhaps we should keep such discussions to a minimum if possible."
"Of course, it's only proper," Daphne replied but when Thane looked at her there was a mischievous glint in her eyes. Thane opened his mouth to say something when the train came to a sudden halt its breaks screeching before everything went eerily silent.
Daphne sat up and closed her book instantly on guard, "What's going on?"
The rhythmic clatter of the train wheels had been a comforting hum, but now—everything was still.
Too still.
The brakes had screeched, jarring the entire train, before a haunting silence settled in its place.
Daphne was the first to react, snapping her book shut with a sharp thump, her posture immediately shifting into something ready, alert.
"What's going on?" she asked, her tone calm but edged with tension.
Thane rose to his feet, his emerald eyes narrowing as he sensed the shift in the air.
"I don’t know," he murmured, glancing toward the frosted-over windows, where the once gentle rain had twisted into a howling storm.
Then—
"The temperature just dropped," Rose muttered, lifting her head from Thane’s lap, her brows furrowed. "Really fast."
A cold chill seeped into their bones, the kind of unnatural icy presence that was neither from the storm nor the train’s surroundings.
The lights flickered, then—
Darkness.
A faint gasp came from Luna as the entire compartment plunged into blackness, the only light now coming from the faint moonlight filtering through the frost-covered glass.
Thane’s frown deepened.
This wasn’t just an ordinary storm.
This was something else.
"Stay here," Thane said, already stepping toward the door, his voice carrying a low, commanding authority. "I have a sneaking suspicion about what’s occurring."
Daphne stood as well, though she didn’t stop him.
"Be careful," she murmured, slipping a wand from her sleeve.
Rose bit her lip, her expression shifting from irritation to concern.
"Do you think it’s—?"
She didn’t have to finish the sentence.
Everyone felt it.
Something was wrong.
Luna, who had remained quiet until now, finally spoke, her voice softer but laced with an eerie certainty.
"There are shadows moving outside," she whispered, her silver eyes distant, unfocused. "But they aren’t people."
The windows fogged over, as if something cold and hungry was pressing against them, draining what little warmth was left in the air.
Thane’s expression turned grim.
"Dementors."
The word was barely more than a whisper, but it carried the weight of something inevitable.
Daphne’s grip on her wand tightened.
Rose shuddered.
Luna… just watched the shadows grow deeper.
Thane exhaled slowly, his usual calm confidence unfazed by the growing tension.
"I’ll handle it."
Then, before anyone could argue, he slid the compartment door open and stepped into the darkened corridor, the air frigid, the shadows stirring.
Thane’s emerald eyes glowed in the oppressive darkness, his sharp gaze flickering toward the mist-choked corridor as he inhaled slowly.
For creatures that barely had physical form, Dementors carried a distinct stench—one that was difficult to describe, yet impossible to ignore.
Rotting air. Stagnant despair. The absence of everything warm and living.
The temperature inside the train car plummeted, a deathly chill seeping into the walls, the floors, even the very air itself. The usual hum of life—students talking, shuffling, the distant echoes of compartments opening and closing—had vanished.
All that remained was a haunting silence, pressing down like an invisible weight.
Thane could feel it now, the heavy aura of the Dementors slithering through the train, clawing through the very fabric of the air, reaching with insidious fingers, searching for something to devour.
It felt like cold hands digging into his chest, seeking the warmth of his happiest memories, desperate to snuff them out.
A lesser mind would have been overtaken by fear.
Thane, however, only felt annoyance.
"What the hell was the Ministry thinking?" he muttered under his breath.
He had read the notices. The official decrees. The Ministry claimed this was for "protection," a necessary precaution with Sirius Black on the loose.
But even a fool could see the issue.
Dementors didn’t guard. They hunted. They didn’t differentiate between prey and criminals. If they had truly wanted to secure Hogwarts, there were a hundred better ways.
Instead, they had sent starving monsters into a train filled with children.
With a sharp snort, Thane let go of the restraint he usually kept on his magic, allowing his aura to unfurl—heavy, rich, potent.
It spread through the train like an invisible beacon, a pulse of living soul energy, thrumming with power, a radiant temptation for any creature that fed on such things.
They noticed immediately.
A ghostly wail echoed from outside the train, high and shrill, piercing the air like a dagger.
The windows rattled violently in their frames, the glass fogging over with frost, thick and unnatural.
And then—
A tidal wave of blackness surged forward.
A rush of twisting, liquid shadow, pouring toward the doors of the train car, eager and unstoppable.
Thane’s smile widened, his sharp, predatory teeth glinting in the dim light.
"That’s right," he murmured. "Come and get it."
Then—
Bang.
The doors exploded inward, torn off their hinges by the sheer force of the Dementors’ approach.
The room darkened further, swallowed by rolling waves of unnatural fog.
A living tide of wraith-like figures, cloaked in tattered cloth, poured in.
Their skeletal hands, covered in pale, grey skin, reached for him with hunger.
They moved like liquid shadow, gliding across the air, their very presence suffocating.
Thane didn’t move.
Didn’t flinch.
Didn’t fear.
The wall of writhing black mist rushed forward, eager to consume him whole—
But Thane merely snorted, unimpressed.
Lifting his hand, his voice came out low and smooth, filled with absolute certainty.
"Expecto Patronum."
