🕑 Added 2018-07-30 07:13:33 +0000 UTC Yes, those are modeled wood planks making up the majority of the pool deck.Yes, every single one of those was created by hand.
For some reason utterly beyond me, I got it into my head that I wanted to be able to randomize each plank of wood on an individual basis, which is pretty easy to do on the rendering side of things- but it means you need to have each plank of wood as it's own object in order to pull in the object ID and randomize the texture parameters based on that. So I've literally spent the last 6 hours chopping up virtual wood and positioning it around the pool. The only alternative was to just use a tiled wood texture (which is what any sane individual would do), but I wasn't too impressed with the results when I tried that- the tiling artifacts were fairly obvious and I couldn't find any textures with a high enough resolution to adequately eliminate them.
Thank god the only thing left to do is the fence, pool accessories (lamps, drains, and ladders) and pool chairs.

Individually rendered planks seems like overkill, yet I hate seeing obviously patterned textures. So that level of care and detail is impressive!
