In my opinion, current affairs is about the scandal she got herself in. The man who produced this album was in a relationship with a woman for 6 years and cheating on her with lorde. The tape she is referring to is Tommy and Pamela sex tape - she said shes always admired the tape because it was two people who were free and so in love but then it went wrong when the tape was released.

Lorde was young when she started she was 15 or 16 when released her debut album and yes i read on genius that her mom was a poet and songwriter in the industry too

in my opinion i think it's not good idea to start LORDE journey with this album you need to listen to her earlier works to understand her vibes first and how she writes and explains her life and her style kinda like Lana Del Rey with Born To Die
