Let's have a little chat. Shall we? MAYBE unpopular opinion but the New Year has always given me conflicting feelings. YES, an amazing time for self-reflection, appreciation, recharge and even a regroup of how we might need to pivot for the new year. However... I've always taken issue with "New Year Resolutions" I find them to often be driven by critical self-talk, shame, and GUILT. (let me preface by saying not all resolutions.) I ALSO have a bone to pick with the exaughsting expectations that Capitalism and Individualism constantly PUSH on us. The mantra of "work harder" "no days off" and the unrealistic narrative of the American Value system (at least here in America) that upholds such value on being self sufficient-individuals. We seem to CELEBRATE personal achievements assuming the success comes to those who "wanted and worked harder than others." WE are a social species. Our hormonal and genetic makeup in fact SUPPORT interdependence VS independence. I think there can be balance for both! Having a social network of people who can provide guidance, motivation, and support. It gives us a sense of BELONGING and I can't help but think of all the resolutions that are driven by an underling desire to JUST BELONG rather than a "goal" for pleasure and pure joy. I know this was a lengthy ramble but I hope this resonated with at least ONE of you and maybe even brought GENTLE awareness to maybe some of the motivations behind your resolutions.
Big hugs, Gracie!
