Big'ol Monthly Post: New Character Models, Unity 6 Transition Successful But...
🕑 Added 2024-07-01 19:38:27 +0000 UTCHey peeps, like I said the transition to Unity 6 would take about a month. It actually could have taken less if not for a few issues. Which is why there's no build just yet.
Let's get into it.
The Reimport and Unity 6
Alright so overall things went smoothly started a new project file, imported most assets fresh and some others copied over to avoid some changes in later versions of the assets.
Biggest issue was shaders, I wanted to move to using Forward+, was moving toward APV, and using Render Graph and that resulted in a lot of assets and shaders I might normally use being incompatible.
So first I needed to update Naomi's shaders, make them compatible with APV which actually required modifying some Amplify Shader nodes. I gave them my fixes and that was in the latest update XD.
Left is the old rendering; right is the new.
If I didn't explain it before Naomi's shading is now based per pixel instead of based on a single point. So while her lighting is flat on the left it is more gradual on the right getting some light from the window and shadow on the stairs there even though it's not a real light source.
Overall you'll see everything in the scene to be consistently lit, even if it's not quite as detailed lighting.
Next was miscellaneous shaders, like some UI shaders, and some post processing. For a bit I was worried the background painting effect called Kuwahara wouldn't be available for some time but I was able to reimplement the feature myself using the Full Screen Render Feature tool.
I also made the decision to just upgrade cinemachine versions to version 3. And that caused a lot of problems. When the build is released there might be many random broken camera angles. I also had to rewrite some helper scripts and modify the free camera.
In the end just about everything works as before but there might be some issues and things missed.
But...
So good, should have a build, right?
Well, that's where the problems started. For some ungodly reason it's crashing at extremely specific points. Points that can't be reproduced in editor and seem to be no fault of my own. From what I've determined the crash is some kind of memory access error.
My guess is I should maybe remake some files, but that's going to take some time. So far I've tried A LOT of things, like my initial thought it was a corruption issue so I rebuilt the library and for some reason the build took 15 hours. But even then nothing changed, same exact crash. I updated some code tried to see if maybe it was an efficiency issue. nope.
So, for this reason, there's no build just yet, else it would be a build that randomly crashes. I may still release it if I continue to have problems but for now, I want to keep working on it.
Other news, NEW CHARACTER MODELS!
This is Danni, I don't think I've shown her concept before.
Another character that will be exclusive to Subscribe Star has also been made. And Jackson will have a model soon as well.
Danni here is a lewdable model! But I don't expect it in Our Apartment, maybe I'll do a side thing but for now her model is for cinematics and dialogue. Anything else lewd will be side stuff.

Conclusion
So that's all for now peeps, sorry for the lack of a build, given how long builds can take and how many things I have to try to figure this out it could take a while. Currently I've upgraded Unity and am making another build. Could take 6 hours could take another 15, hard to say...
Expect some sort of update within a week, regardless of if I solve this issue or not. Either we'll release a broken build or a rough build.

A build was released on July 7th a week after this post, this build was not made available to 1$ supporters due to potential issues with this first release after so many changes, but the next one should be sometime this month I think. Sorry for the delay. The monthly update will be soon which will explain this in detail.

I dont want to bother but you promised an update. Maybe a short comment would suffice. Just a heads up that the problem is resolved or not or something like that.
