Chapter 621 Unexpected for Zanki and Toshiba.
🕑 Added 2025-09-03 00:19:11 +0000 UTC8 November 1995
At the Toshiba offices, Zanki Zagashira stood beaming with pride as he gazed upon the latest product from the company—a machine he had poured months of energy and excitement into. It was none other than the groundbreaking TEN CD Player, also fondly referred to as the 10 CD Player or even the Heavenly CD Player by those in the marketing team. This revolutionary device was the first of its kind: a CD player that could hold and play up to 10 discs simultaneously, pushing far beyond the standard set by previous multi-disc players.
Zanki had championed the idea from its earliest concept stages, pushing for innovation that emphasized convenience and user control. To see it now, finally realized and gleaming under showroom lights, filled him with satisfaction. He felt it symbolized Toshiba’s commitment to remaining ahead in the audio-visual race, a blend of cutting-edge tech and consumer-first thinking. And for Zanki personally, it was more than a product—it was a statement of vision. He stood there, arms crossed, watching the engineering marvel like a proud parent. Yes, this was the future of entertainment, and Zanki couldn’t be prouder.
“This is a beauty—now everyone can play two movies at once without needing to swap out discs manually,” Zanki said with a proud grin as he sipped his coffee. He gazed at the machine, admiring the sleek finish and the subtle hum of its internal mechanisms. The Toshiba TEN CD Player had just been released yesterday, and it was already drawing positive attention from early adopters and tech enthusiasts alike.
Reports from retailers indicated strong initial sales, with many praising the convenience of being able to load multiple discs for uninterrupted playback. Reviewers noted its futuristic practicality. Zanki was confident—no, certain—that this product was going to be a major success. It wasn’t just another CD player; it was a statement that Toshiba still had bold ideas and the means to execute them. This was only the beginning.
“Hehehe, all we need to do now is wait,” one of the Toshiba shareholders said with a confident smile. The rest of the boardroom shared the sentiment—they were genuinely thrilled with the product’s innovation and the overwhelmingly positive reception it was getting. To them, the TEN CD Player wasn’t just a minor upgrade; it was a revolutionary leap forward in how home media was experienced.
Before this, even the most advanced CD players could only accommodate up to five discs at once, often requiring users to manually swap discs midway through a movie or between albums. It was a tedious process, especially when watching epic films that spanned multiple CDs—some requiring three to five discs just to finish. The TEN CD Player changed that completely.
Now, with the ability to load ten discs simultaneously, users could queue up several movies or entire music collections without lifting a finger after pressing play. For families and entertainment lovers, this meant the convenience of enjoying back-to-back films or music sessions with no interruptions. In essence, it was like having a miniature home theater system that required no disc swapping.
The shareholders marveled at the practicality. "This is going to redefine weekend movie marathons," another remarked. With ten-disc capacity, people could mix and match—two or three full-length movies, a couple of music albums, maybe a bonus documentary or two—all lined up and ready to go. The consensus in the room was clear: this wasn’t just a product, it was a game changer.
After the meetings with the shareholders, Zanki returned to his office. As he settled in, he switched on the TV—just in time to catch the commercial for the TEN CD Player airing on-screen. A wide grin spread across his face as he watched his creation take the spotlight on national television.
The ad began with a man walking into his living room carrying two full CD movie box sets—eight discs in total—along with a separate CD filled with his favorite music. He proceeded to load a movie into his traditional CD player and sat down to watch. However, once the film ended, he grew visibly frustrated as he struggled to eject the disc and insert the next one. The process was clunky and slow, and his irritation was clear. Just as he sighed in exasperation, the scene froze dramatically. A narrator’s voice cut in, and another character entered the frame, setting the stage for a bold solution.
“You hate that, don’t you? Watching two movies but having to eject each disc one by one!” the man said with a knowing smirk. Suddenly, he snapped his fingers, and a ninja appeared out of nowhere, holding a stack of ten CDs with a dramatic flourish. With incredible precision, the ninja tossed all ten discs into a bulky, futuristic-looking CD player. One by one, the discs slid smoothly into the machine without a hitch, as the device lit up and whirred to life, ready to play them all without a single manual swap.
“Allow me to introduce you to the revolutionary TEN CD Player—crafted with heavenly quality and built to amaze! This incredible device can play up to 10 discs without the need to manually eject a single one. Want to enjoy three movies in a row? No problem! Prefer to watch a film and then immediately switch to your favorite music CD? You got it! What’s more, the TEN CD Player comes with a powerful remote control that lets you seamlessly select which disc you want to play at any time. No more standing up or fumbling with buttons—just sit back, relax, and let the entertainment flow.”
The scene then shifted to a cheerful family gathered in their cozy living room, enjoying a movie night together with multiple CDs loaded into the TEN CD Player. Laughter and excitement filled the air as the seamless transition between discs kept the fun going without interruption. The announcer’s voice returned with enthusiasm: “Get your brand-new Toshiba TEN CD Player today for just 40,000 Yen—available now at your nearest electronics store! Make watching movies at home easier, smoother, and more enjoyable than ever before!”
Zanki grinned and nodded. “Such a great ad, hahaha.” In high spirits, he walked over to his cabinet, grabbed a bottle of wine, and poured himself a glass, savoring the moment of success.
Meanwhile, at the ZAGE offices, Zaboru burst into loud, uncontrollable laughter as he watched the TEN CD Player commercial air on TV.
“HAHAHAHAHA! This is hilarious! They really believe that just adding more CD slots makes things easier? And the design—it's enormous! Hahaha! And what was that? A ninja? Out of nowhere?!” Zaboru couldn’t stop laughing—not because he underestimated Toshiba, but because the entire presentation genuinely amused him. It felt like a true entertainment of the 1990s, an era packed with quirky, experimental tech from major companies trying to outdo one another with bizarre ideas. The sudden appearance of a random ninja just sealed it—it was absurd, chaotic, and unmistakably 1990s. And oddly enough, Zaboru loved every second of it.
As someone from the future, Zaboru knew just how convenient it was to have a single disc for an entire movie. It couldn’t even compare to using multiple CDs. Designing a machine that could play a large number of CDs wasn’t a real solution—it just created more hassle. Imagine wanting to watch four movies, and 4 of them spanned a total of 20 discs. That would mean swapping out 10 discs every time you finished two movies. It was tedious, inefficient, and completely impractical. DVD solved all of that, an
d Zaboru knew it.
Zaboru sighed, still chuckling to himself. “Hehehe, I wonder how they’ll react to the DVD. Well, not my problem,” he muttered with a smirk. He leaned back in his chair, eyes gleaming with anticipation, then turned his attention back to his work. In just two days, the Philips PZ-DVD Player would launch—ushering in a new era, and he was ready for it.
