There's a lot more to that Himmel and Voll scene actually. Voll and his wife kind of represent Himmel and Frieren, where one had shorter lifespan than the other. My personal lore is that Himmel didn't pursue Frieren because he don't want her to end up like Voll did. Stucked in the past unable to move on, whilst trying to remember him for the rest of her long life.
