What Happened? - Rewards

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the series, each episode takes a look at a different failed video game project and examines what went wrong, or keeps going wrong (like with fallout 76). Matt wanted to keep the same game show aesthetic of the original intro, so I decided to expand upon that concept, turning Matt's skull persona into the host and integrating some infamous characters from the game industry into the game show. Randy Pitchford is dressed as a magician dancing with aliens (a reference to this old alien colonial marines bug), Keiji Inafune is juggling multiple projects, George Broussard and the 3D Realms team are trapped in a bubble (Duke Nukem Forever is a masterclass in "How not to develop a game"), Tomonobu Itagaki is being carried around in a little Viking ship by his Valhalla Studio team, and Todd Howard is surrounded by some bugged Fallout 76 characters (and dancing Radroaches).
Animating this parade of different characters was a good opportunity to mix 2D and 3D (which I always love to do) and experiment with a cel-shaded environment, making sure that the characters and background shared a visual identity. This hallway scene was modeled and textured in maya and then imported into After Effects, where it was easier to animate the camera and the textures, I also used a modular design because I wanted to be able to modify the length of the hallway if necessary. There's some good stuff to explore here if you're interested in this art style, so, I'm adding these assets to the Patreon rewards! I'm not sharing the logo or the skull Matt character, but everything else is here.

God what a beautiful technicolor nightmare. I'm a big fan of Wha Happun so this really made my day when I popped the new episode and saw this intro.
