Thoughts on Rockstar Games?

Rockstar would make an interesting topic, as they've spent the last couple of decades making the kinds of games they want, like Skye said above. They've also used the controversy around their games to their advantage and their history is a really interesting one. In fact, you can find a number of videos online about "The History of Rockstar Games." They're certainly not hated, by any means - at least not by the public in general. Politicians and overprotective parents. They've also been under fire - especially during the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 - regarding overworking designers, but that's sort of an industry-wide problem and not just a Rockstar-specific problem.

I don't hate Rockstar at all (from what I know about them). Their games have been great and they don't kowtow to fringe social pressures. They make the games they want to make. I have heard a few negative things about Take 2 though, but I don't recall what they are.

Don’t much care but I’d watch it to see what the fuss is about. Here’s an idea. Since there are multiple game companies that are hated, apparently, make a grid to check off common reasons among them for being hated. Eg, rows labeled with each cause for complaint, and a column for each hated company, and put an X at each intersecting cell.

It's a good thought, definitely a doable video. I've just always preferred to follow individual companies because they provide a relatable narrative. They're stories that involve people and brands that we get to know and like/dislike. Never wanted to do much content solely related to finance or industry analysis type stuff.

I am only vaguely aware of them. My daughter plays Red Dead Redemption on PS4 but that is the extent of my knowledge about them. If it is a trend that video game companies get a lot of hate, could you do an industry video as opposed to a company video and look at why the industry is getting so much hate? It could even be the start of an industry series where you examine the rise & fall or the reasons why certain industries are successful? I think it might be a nice compliment to all your videos focusing on individual companies.

Those are exactly some of the highlights I was thinking Mark. But do you think those reasons amount to so much hatred that it's justified to make that the focus of a video? That was kind of my concern.

So in my honest opinion and as a gamer I will say that I'm not into Take two myself GTA and red dead aren't really my cup of tea. That said I think you could do a video why they're hated based upon the rise of dependence of online transactions as well as the history of the company itself it's actually very interesting the story of The immigrant who came over to basically get back at those who wanted to shut them down because of the hot coffee scandal! Also don't forget if you do do a video at this there was an incident where they were keeping people for 12 hours a day during the holiday season. Crunch is very stressful :/ regardless of whatever direction you go into I look forward to your thoughts!

I think it’s a great idea for a video. You could talk about the hot coffee scandal, the critical and commercial success of the gta games and rdr, and as well talk about the controversy of their shifting to fewer game releases and more focus on online multi transactions
