If there's one thing I've learned from my art professors is that it's always good to use references! It's even better to make your own! Take your own photographs, have someone volunteer to be a model for you, use 3D models! It's all there! Even Disney used live action actors for their 2D movies!

I love the implication that John is helping Crowley with a marriage proposal! :D ahhh the age old 'if you don't have art spring fully formed from your own head in perfect detail you suck' bullshit. The only people who think like this never went to school for art or read anything about art or had friends who were artists. It's ridiculous and i hope your friend's kid feels better having all of us olds cuss about it :D

Imogen here! You can only get better if you are using references! How else do we get a good sense of how light interacts with a subject, how to accurately and realistically proportion our art?? Honestly if I don't use at least one to three references for a drawing I can tell because it's usually a lot less than good! I hope your friend's daughter feels better. I know I would if I had your guidance in that situation 🥰❤️ I mean life drawing is love references and it's literally taught to be the best way to learn! Honestly...

Whuuuuut, I would get in trouble if it was obvious I DIDN'T use references when I was in art school. Learning and working from observation is how most tasks work!!!!!
