For your argument of dawsons monk and the restaurant seem out of the air, maybe you missed a previous episode where Mitch told reminded Gail about her dream she had before she had kids/news anchor job. Way back she had wanted to open a restaurant and he reminded her of that a little bit ago of the dream before she had kids. Doubt she knows all that much of actually running one though.
