I love it so much, that even during that conversation with Tao, Charlie didn't tell Tao that Nick is figuring stuff out. Nick asked him to keep it a secret and Charlie does that even with his friends.

Tao is definitely overly protective, but I can't really blame him considering Charlie was severely bullied last year by Nick's rugby friends. This isn't Nick's fault of course, but it does explain Tao's hesitance a bit. Also, we can't forget that they are all young, and even adults don't fully know how to handle relationships and friendships in a completely healthy way sometimes. That shit takes a lot of time.
