I dunno if we ever said this, but Lena’s pregnancy was real. The actress was really pregnant, and so they decided to go about telling this story for Lena and it really does bring a lot to the show. It gives Lena something to understand and grieve about and it gives Stef a vulnerability.

It is kinda sad how defensive Mariana gets about her heritage and such. I think it’s part of her feeling guilty that she never really celebrated it. She never really trued to get to know her culture, and she’s guilty about it so when she sees others doing it, she feels the need to get on the defense whether it’s Tia or someone else. She dyed her hair because she thought it was needed to fit in, but in doing she also erased a part of her genuine self to conform with what she thought was acceptable.
