“Next time,” panted Ryan, the tallest of them, “we stick to beaches. Cold drinks, women, hammocks. Not… this.”
“Oh, stop whining,” said Alex, the energetic one, brushing leaves aside with a stick. “We’re on an actual adventure here. How many guys from our town can say they explored a jungle temple?”
“Assuming there is a temple,” muttered Chris, the sarcastic one, pushing his glasses back up his nose.
Joe brought up the rear, quiet as usual. He wasn’t as outspoken as the others, more observant, always analyzing things before speaking. But even he froze when the vines opened up to reveal the structure.
It loomed in the twilight, a small stone temple, worn but intact, its surface engraved with strange markings.
“Holy…” Alex’s eyes widened. “We actually found something.”
Ryan whistled low. “Okay, I take it back. This is badass.”
Inside, the air was cooler, damp. Dust swirled in the beam of Chris’s flashlight until it landed on the statue: gold, human-shaped, with its hands cupped forward. In its palms, a folded note.
Ryan snorted. “No way that paper’s still readable after… what? Centuries?”
But it was. Alex picked it up, reading aloud: “Speak your wish, and power shall be yours.”
The silence that followed was thick.
“…This is some Indiana Jones bullshit,” Chris muttered.
Joe frowned at the statue, its smooth face expressionless. “Looks like a trap.”
“Then why’s the note in English?” Alex countered, excitement bubbling in his voice. “No one’s been here before. No footprints, no torches. This is it, guys, our shot at something bigger.”
Ryan cracked a grin. “Screw it. I’m in.”
And so, one by one, they touched the statue.
The first to step forward was Ryan. He placed a hand on the statue, and his body jolted as if struck by lightning. Then, in a blink, he vanished.
“Ryan!” Alex yelped.
“Behind you.”
They whipped around to see Ryan grinning like a maniac a dozen feet away. “Teleportation, baby. I’m a goddamn superhero.”
Alex whooped, slamming his hand onto the statue next. A shiver ran through him, and suddenly, his form flickered and dissolved until nothing remained but his voice echoing, “Oh my god, I’m invisible!”
Chris was shaking now, half with fear, half with anticipation. He touched it, and when the energy surged through him, he bolted outside, propelled by instinct. Moments later, a wild laugh echoed from above as he soared past the treetops. “I’m flying! Holy hell, I’m actually flying!”
Finally, Joe. He hesitated, but something inside urged him forward. The moment his palm touched the gold, his body rippled. His skin crawled, bones shifting, height rising then shrinking before settling back. His reflection in Ryan’s phone camera shimmered and warped like clay.
“…What the hell was that?” he asked, voice low.
Alex reappeared, wide-eyed. “Dude. You can, change. Shape-shift. Metamorphosis!”
The others cheered, but Joe forced a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. Something about it felt… off.
That night, back at their camp, thanks to Ryan’s teleportation shortcut, the jungle hummed with life. They sat around the fire, testing their new gifts.
Chris swooped overhead, diving between branches. Alex vanished and reappeared with snacks stolen from their supplies, laughing his head off. Ryan played tag with him, teleporting to cut him off every time.
“Your turn, Joe,” Ryan grinned. “C’mon. Show us something cool.”
Joe hesitated, staring at his hands. He focused, wishing himself taller, stronger. His body obeyed, the sensation like thousands of invisible fingers sculpting him. Bones stretched, muscle swelled, his shirt pulling tight until the seams nearly burst.
“Holy crap,” Chris gasped, landing nearby. “Look at him! You’re like… six-five now!”
Alex’s grin widened. “Wait, wait. Can you do celebrities? Like… I dunno, The Rock?”
Joe swallowed. He closed his eyes, imagined the towering wrestler, and his body melted, reformed, grew even larger. The square jaw, the tattoos, the impossible bulk. He stood there as an almost perfect replica.
The camp erupted in cheers.
One request became two, then five, then ten. Joe changed again and again, each time easier than the last. Until..
“Hey,” Ryan smirked, pointing at Chris. “Turn into his sister. Just for the laugh.”
“Wait, what?!” Chris barked, half-joking, half-serious.
The idea was stupid. Childish. But everyone’s eyes were on him. Joe hesitated, then gave in. His body shrank, softened, curves blooming under his clothes. His chest pushed outward, hips widening, hair spilling down in waves. Within moments, Chris’s sister, down to her freckles, stood by the fire.
The laughter was explosive. Chris’s face went crimson, yelling for him to stop, but Joe barely heard it.
Because inside, something electric coursed through him. The sensation of his new curves, the sway of his body, the softness of skin, it felt more intoxicating than anything else that night.
For the rest of the evening, he transformed again and again. Not just into Chris’s sister, but into singers, models, actresses. Each time more glamorous, more “perfect” than the last.
And each time, he enjoyed it a little more.
By the time the group split to chase their new destinies, Joe was no longer hesitant.
Ryan was gone, teleporting across countries for the thrill. Chris had joined an air squad just to test his flying in real combat drills. Alex was already talking about pulling pranks on billionaires using invisibility.
But Joe… Joe had locked himself away. Every day in front of a mirror, sculpting.
He began with small tweaks, broad shoulders trimmed down, waist cinched, legs lengthened. Then the experiments grew bolder. Skin flawless, hair shining, breasts shaped just so, lips fuller, eyes brighter.
Until finally, he built something that felt like perfection incarnate.
When he stepped out of his cabin, he wasn’t Joe anymore. He was a goddess, a vision, a living fantasy. And for the first time, his reflection didn’t fill him with doubt.
At a beach bar a week later, Joe walked in wearing nothing but confidence and a sundress that flowed like liquid. Conversations faltered. Heads turned. Men gawked. Women stared, some with envy, others with awe.
At the counter, a bartender froze mid-shake. “Uh. can I get you something?”
Joe smiled, the kind of smile that disarmed instantly. “Just water, thank you.”
Two men nearby leaned closer, whispering, until one dared approach. “Sorry, uh, are you a model?”
Joe tilted his head, feigning innocence. “Not yet.”
The man’s jaw dropped.
In that moment, Joe realized something: the world wasn’t just ready for him. The world was hungry for him.
And he was ready to feed it.
