Well, the truth of the matter is that the castle nobles caught our Cuckoo dropping off last year's brood on their doorstep and decided that they'd be best served by keeping him themselves, having discovered where all of their lord's precious new heirs were coming from, so naturally they were pleased as punch when his belly "miraculously" began to swell after just a few short months of their having him there. 👀
Meanwhile, the Cuckoo himself had been under the impression that he'd finally come to understand how his belly so reliably begins to grow again around a half-year after his delivering his last child, but he hadn't seen his new friend, the Sellsword, in many weeks by the time he noticed himself developing again this time. Evidently he must have been mistaken; evidently his producing a child - or children, he suspects he may be carrying twins again - is simply something that will happen every year from now onwards. In any case, he's in a warm, safe and comfortable place, certainly more ideal circumstances in which to labour and give birth than those of his previous deliveries.
When the urge to push comes, quickly and naturally, he's calm and ready. 💜
