“It is,” Luke replied, his tone serious. “But don’t get distracted. D.A.I.S.Y. needs accurate real-time data during calibration.”
“Beginning running test,” D.A.I.S.Y. announced as a countdown timer appeared above the track.
“Wait, should I actually run?” Felicia asked, surprised—but as the timer hit zero, she decided to go with it and took off down the track.
In the real world, Luke stood watching her jog laps around the room. Overhead, several screens displayed multiple points of view of the virtual world and streams of live data, all tagged under the codename Black Cat.
Over the next hour, he observed her progress through a series of tests—running, climbing, jumping, and even parkour. Whenever real-world objects were needed, microbots got deployed from the room’s side panels and reconfigured themselves into physical obstacles: walls, bars, ledges, and more.
