I think you need to do what puts your mind at ease, it is hard to put barriers up to protect minors online partly due to how people have ignored advice they were given as kids. For example i remember always been told to look into what i am being told and not to talk to strangers online as a kid but now a lot of parents will give their child access to the internet without using any child locks or even checking what they are watching/doing. If the parents used the tools made it would help a lot but to many either don`t care or don`t have the time to care. I was told by a friend they knew someone who had to take all tech away from their kids due to what the kid was posing online and not understanding what they were doing. Even Diviantart should be better in terms of tags and blocking certain ages from viewing it but that can also create the issue of leaving everything until a child becomes a adult at 18 and then getting overloaded with tons of different information. Sorry for the ramble but like i said at the start you should do what makes you happy and comfortable
