Nighthawkinlight has a video on using a microwave to create synthetic rubies, I wonder what would happen if you repeated it with much more power.

Apparently Pyrex in Europe is still made from borosilicate glass. It seems that Pyrex in the US is made from tempered soda-lime glass, which is more durable than regular glass under temperature fluctuations but not as heat-resistant as borosilicate glass. I guess that in this world EU pyrex can escape to the US and US pyrex can escape to Europe 😂

Pyrex no longer is the borosilicate it used to be, it is usually soda lime now.

Fun Fact: The orange hue comes from the sodium boiling out of the glass, it may crystalize and crack later. NileBlue had that problem.

Is that foil in the beaker or a copy of your tax return? Fun either way.

Pyrex does not like sudden uneven heat - I have had two explode when I put them, cold, in a preheated conventional oven and they touched the hot rails.
