it must be superheating and splitting apart the molecules and expanding, as well as lifting up due to warm air rising. Cool effect. I wonder if you took some oxygen bottle with a check valve and a metal bike tire needle on the end if you can add air and itd be a sustained standing plasma/wave? Like connect the end to ground so it strikes it constantly, then flow out a flammable gas or oxygen and/or or whatever to see what it does in slowmo, if it can look more like a sustained flow and not evaporate the branches of the spark.

It's like a mix between a plasma and pure electricity, the way it seems to flow and fold at it's core and spike at the edges. Awesome!
