A lot of sentais or Toku shows are like that sometimes where the first 10 or so eps are really gimmicky and follow the same points beat for beat cuz they wanna sell toys, but usually afterwards or once the sixth ranger debuts things get HEAVY

Spoiler Alert: Samurai Sentai Shinkenger follows five samurai (a lord amd his retainers) in their mission to defend the world against the Gedoshu, demons who wish to flood the Earth with their Sanzu River water. The red ranger in the show is Kaory Shiba is the 18th head of the Shiba Clan and the 18th Shinken Red in history. But, due to her having a unique power to defeat the Gedoshu, the son of one of her retainers, who would go by Takeru Shiba, would stand in for her frok childhood as head of the family while she trained for most of her life. After the events of the show, Kaoru would adopt Takeru as her soon and step down, making him the 19th head of the family and the true Shinken Red for the first time.

JAKQ Dengekitai initially starts with four young test subjects (Spade Ace, Diamond Jack, Heart Queen, and Clover King) being recruited to undergo a cyborg enhancement program to become JAKQ in order to fight the global criminal empire known simply as "CRIME". They are later joined by a fifth member, Big One (the suit Luka used), who would become the new leader of JAKQ following their benefactor, Joker's departure.
